Iceland Passes WikiLeaks LawPosted on Jun 17, 2010
The Icelandic parliament has approved a package of broad protections for journalists, making the island nation perhaps the safest place in the world to afflict the comfortable and speak truth to power. Icelandic leaders wanted to create a haven for journalists and whistle-blowers and sought assistance from WikiLeaks, the website that recently released video of U.S. forces gunning down civilians and journalists in Iraq. —PZS

It bothers me to Know that WW3 could be ignited by a large group of Islamic slaves. As long as the Muslim man enslaves his women, He too is a slave to that process. Honest Abe told us a long time ago. Islam is like a Human standing on One Leg, eventually you lose your balance. ISLAM FREE YOUR WOMEN; FREE YOURSELF AND FREE THE WORLD FROM THIS INSANE Process that will ignite a world war. Social infrastucture that survives the test of Time, includes the Women no other way to run, hospitals, schools, adminstrations etc. all is handled better by women. Wake up Islam to 2010, all men, who expect their women to wear a burka, please do yourself justice wear a full length burka in the hot sun for 2 hours then look in the mirror, and ask yourself,“can I do this the rest of my life?” Free the women and the internet will follow.

Freedom of expression through technology will have to stand up to tyranny like all other media forms have had to do in the past. Keeping the internet free, is a dream that iceland knows the world`s peoples wishes, but as BiG Daddy Obama Expressed that the internet is vital and needs controls. All the countries that spear headed freedom of speech in the PAST, must NOW step forward once more to maintain the little we have and reach out for more freedoms especially for WOMEN. When the Muslim Man allows his women equal rights, He will free Himself, Free the women and you will free the World. Without Women`s full rights no infrastructure of institutions will stand the test of TIME, FREE THE WOMEN and Free YOURSELF Muslim Man.

Dear everyone, I know this is off-topic, but I wanted to say to Leefeller that he should see better movies then he might not see the actors acting! I’m lucky, Leefeller, I have a great art house near me though I live in the boonies, but even better has been Netflix, which has been a lifesaver for me. The theatre near me can’t afford to show things like “This Movie Has Not Yet Been Rated,” a documentary about the MPAA and its rating system.
I didn’t see 2012 so I shouldn’t make any comments about it, but aren’t Hollywood movies usually pretty godawful?

I’ve lived in the US all my life of 50 years, most of it in the Lower 48 States, but it’s getting really bad now. Obama scares me like no other president ever has. Three cheers for Iceland! I’ve lived in Alaska before so Canada is looking attractive. So is Iceland.

I agree with you Handy, I was living in Canada when Bush/Cheney invaded Afganistan and Iraq. I watched in horror as people who objected were silenced and the American people bought the BS hook line and sinker. I was appalled when he suspended habeus corpus and there wasn’t a peep from the MSM. The suspension of the fairness doctrine which insured our news media couldn’t become a propaganda outlet for politicians and that is exactly what Fox has become. I watched all the seasoned Reporters replaced by hacks. We lost the freedom of speech when Fox accused anyone who disagreed with the wars as traitors. Anyone who criticized Bush/Cheney were for the “terrorists”.
I remember thinking as I spoke to friends and family in the States that the conversations could be monitored and anything could be labeled seditious.
We are no longer living in a democracy when any American can be labled an “enemy combatant” and whisked away to a secret prison as happened to a Canadian of Arab descent as he passed through JFK. Or like Amy Goodman and other journalists that were arrested and detained for trying to cover the Republican convention. She had footage of black-clad thugs kicking in the door of a group of protesters at home before they could even began to protest.
I envy Iceland and hope America will live up to it’s motto “Land of the Free”.

To bad that this isn’t law yet. This was not reported in any Icelandic media (that I saw at least). The reason is that this is only a “þingsályktun” or to be translated as a parliament suggestion. It will next become a “frumvarp” that is an unpassed law that then needs to get passed to be law by Alþingi. FYI.

Iceland has now become the country I always thought the US was. I was in one of the first groups to go to Africa in the Peace Corps and ever since that I have watched the People become less engaged and less responsible for keeping this country truly free while also seeing them getting a dummied down education. Americans have been cowering in the corner ever since we lost in Vietnam. I was there too and knew that we shouldn’t have been there either.
Americans don’t mind giving up Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Assembly, the Right to Due Process, a Fair Trial, all of those rights as long as they have the right to visit their relatives in Nebraska, watch any movie they want, buy nay TV, Car, or living room couch they want. Those are the Freedoms they care about. That the government is dummying down their children’s education, that they are sending them to foreign countries to murder and die doesn’t really resonate with them like it did in the 60’s. The United States is headed exactly where Russia went. Russia collapsed because they were fighting an unwinnable war in Afghanistan, unemployment was increasing while jobs were decreasing, government services were being curtailed, deficits had reached astronomical amounts, while the rich and powerful grew ever richer. Does that ring a bell. It should but the average American is too undereducated to notice or too preoccupied with their own hedonistic endeavors to care. America, where we do everything quicker and better. We only took less than 240 years to get where it took the Roman Empire 800 years to get. Hooray for Iceland. I hope they do bettert than we did!

Leefeller, they named Greenland what they did hoping to encourage people to settle there. Greenland is not hospitable. They named Iceland in the same fashion; it is quite hospitable. They are not dependent on fossil fuels because they sit atop a hot spot and use the energy from geothermal sources. What disgusted me about the volcanic ash was the constant WHINING about air travelers (stay home, do the Earth a good turn) and very little news about the people and animals living near the volcano and how they were managing.
I hope Iceland can provide a haven for whistle blowing. But last I heard, New Zealand was said to have the freest press in the world. And I had better not say what I think of our president and his persecution of whistle blowers. I knew he was going to be a terrible president because of the “advisors” he surrounded himself with prior to the election; he has gone beyond my worst expectations.

Alfred Nobels DR.DEATH reputation seems to becoming Obama`s legacy, No freedom anywhere.
If I keep talking like this This site could ban me like Alternet did and commondreams, no freedom of expression, blog managers?! who knows, “The Shadow Knows, What EVIL lurks in the hearts of MEN”.

Lets here it for Iceland before the next ice age. Yes folks freedom of speech is being attacked daily, some obvious, China, N.Korea, Venezula, Cuba etc, just whispering your opinion different from the Generals, prison, or Omar Kadaffi of Libia where you can`t say anything without facing torture, like Egypt where the USA Canada send people to be tortured, Here Mexico, no freedom of speech, journalists killed monthly, Or Pukin`s Russia where 3 years ago they passed a law no criticizing the gov`t at all, Iran, Turkey Saudi Arabia, So Freedom of EXPRESSION! limited to Iceland, At LEAST ONE out of 139 countries, Freedom of expression has always been a fantasy, a nice warm story for bedtime. We need MORE LIKE ICELAND! or is Freedom Exiled!

If you haven’t already, please go to http://wikileaks.org/ and give generously. The truth will eventually set us free from corrupt politicians and all the horror that they create. WikiLeaks is a very important group - they deserve mucho support!
When the ruling elite can no longer hide the truth about their dastardly deeds from the people, we will be able to break free from them forever.
Then we should seize their assets and throw them in jail!

iceland, home to the world’s oldest democracy and it isn’t a demockery like we have here, either. no bush election fraud or billions in bribes called ‘campaign donations;’ no shadow government like pentagon/NSA/CIA running the figureheads. when was the last time iceland was mass-murdering or torturing people in wars? bigtime drinkers and druggies as is usually found in the land of the midnight sun; and they also read some 99 books a year and support lots of local poets… by contrast, allen ginsberg was living on food stamps until he landed that ad for gap khakis…
read at democracy now today that the obama admin is searching for assange, founder of wikileaks, and wants to smash wikileaks. better to have wikileaks smash the US government with its own grisly secrets. it is also said today that wikileaks has another bombshell to drop on the criminal american war machine… video footage of our good soldiers butchering 140 afghani civilians, mostly children and teens, apparently just for the fun of it. assange joins the ranks of hersh, ellsberg and the other courageous ones who manage to expose atrocities to the world. the new nazis ‘just say no’ to nuremberg trials but a few brave folksmanage to get the stories out about auschwitz, my lai, najeef, gaza.
if i had my way, every government and corporate secret across the world would be exposed. the best way to get rid of a vampire is exposure to the light of day, eh?
go iceland! go wikileaks! death to the empires!
