ICE Raids Go Silent

ICE agents arrest suspected undocumented workers during a raid in Santa Ana, Calif., in 2009..

The federal government has changed its approach to immigration raids at factories and farms. Instead of busting their way into workplaces, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are now scouring employment records that then can result in the firing of undocumented workers. —JCL

The New York Times:

The Obama administration has replaced immigration raids at factories and farms with a quieter enforcement strategy: sending federal agents to scour companies’ records for illegal immigrant workers.

While the sweeps of the past commonly led to the deportation of such workers, the “silent raids,” as employers call the audits, usually result in the workers being fired, but in many cases they are not deported.

Over the past year, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has conducted audits of employee files at more than 2,900 companies. The agency has levied a record $3 million in civil fines so far this year on businesses that hired unauthorized immigrants, according to official figures. Thousands of those workers have been fired, immigrant groups estimate.

RAE is correct.  The selective enforcement of our laws that targets the victims while holding the employers that hire without having to pay a fair wage (at minimum) blameless.  As befits a fascist state, the US always supports the haves against the have-nots, and there is no shortage of sociopaths who will join in the chorus to protect the wealthy, no matter how cruel or venal their actions.

It seems Ms Mott doesn’t work for wage and watches too much corporate TV, which explains her comment: “They don’t want the jobs”

Please google “unemployment” to learn that millions of Americans want jobs. Now you may argue that wages for some difficult jobs have become so low due to the availability of illegal aliens that employers find it tough to find legal American workers.

Yes, the magical capitalist “supply and demand” problem. RAISE wages. Wages for farm workers have declined to less than $7 an hour due to the flood of illegals. If Americans were offered at least $10 an hour for back breaking work, a ten-minute break every hour, and perks like free cold water to drink, we’d all be better off.

Of course employers prefer the slave labor system using illegals, and hire educated Mexican-Americans to pretend they are “leaders” and “experts” to spin the myth that only Mexican superman can perform tough jobs. If our autoworkers were paid just $7 a hour, GM would want to hire illegals, claiming that Americans don’t want that work.

So Illegal immigrants who have settled in Washington are fired and lose their livelihood and their homes.  They are replaced by their fellow Mexicans who are bussed in for the season. Company homes and jobs were available and not one American applied? So what exactly do Americans have against Mexican workers? They don’t want the jobs but they don’t want the people who are willing to do the jobs either. To paraphrase that philosophical chestnut…If an apple falls in the orchard and no one is there to pick it does it still get to your supermarket?

All these employers knew there was a problem months beforehand. When they submit quarterly payroll forms, the IRS will send a notice if any SSNs are invalid or don’t match the name. It gives them a month to submit the correct info. These are often just typo mistakes, but some employers have dozens of “mistakes” and never correct them, so ICE shows up to help.

Do they charge the illegal’s with Identity Fraud???

Do they notify the victims of the stolen SSNs that the illegal’s were using them???

What do they do with the bogus I-9s and W-4s that their employers filed with stolen SSNs???

What’s the point is have immigration enforcement laws if it cannot apply to illegal aliens. It only applies to criminal illegal aliens? We already have laws that apply to criminals. Our immigration laws are not worth the paper it is written on. Worthless piece of shit in the hand of democrats.

RAE:

Great idea. I’d prefer a percentage of gross revenues as penalty instead of at set amount. And I’d levy it on the company for the first illegal found. I think 2% of gross would hurt. For the next ilegal found, make it 4%. For the third offense, pull the business license of the company for a year. No whining, no excuses. Employers would soon see illegals as radioactive, and illegals would stop coming if they knew there were no jobs. As for casual workers, like your gardener or babysitter, your idea of a set fine might work wonders. Unfortunately, enforcement would be spotty at best.

This approach is lunacy.

All that is needed is a $10,000 fine PER EMPLOYEE imposed on any company employing an illegal alien.

The illegal, of course, should be imported to wherever he/she came from but c’mon folks… have a heart. The employee is trying to LIVE in the only way he/she knows how at the moment. Illegal. Sure. But deportation is punishment enough for their crime.

But the EMPLOYER is the bigger criminal by far. At $10,000 per person it won’t be long before their employee records won’t show any aliens on file.

On second thought… only the FIRST person found would initiate a $10,000 fine. The fine DOUBLES for each one found after that.

BTW… I wonder why the ICE agents in the photo look suspiciously like BOUNCERS at some sleazy gin joint? All brawn and no brain. That’s exactly what they are… government muscle. Those with brains need not apply.
