House Shoots Down Unemployment BillPosted on Jun 29, 2010
House Democrats pushed for it, but on Tuesday opponents of a bill that would extend unemployment benefits for Americans long out of work won this round of legislative jostling over how to help struggling job hunters without plunging the country too much further into debt. —KA

Montana is in a very difficult situation with its elected senate officials. They are both idiots and very corrupt. If you like to read a funny article about our Montana senators Jon Tester and Max Baucus, take a look at this blog entry: http://identitynoise.com/blog/?p=209
you will truly LOL

Some of the statements and attitudes of congress towards the unemployed is appalling. Bet it would change in a hurry if House and Senate jobs were sent to a sweat shop in China. No doubt the sweat shop would do their jobs cheaper and better.

they got ten days for memorial day & the 4th of july. not sure what they get for easter, thanksgiving,& christmas. break down the number hours they actually work & divided by thier yearly salary ( not inculding all the extra perks they get ) and see thier hourly wage. you will be mortified. but if they put a 15% raise in the bill for them , it’ll pass in a heartbeat

Here in Maine, we had a Republican candidate for governor (Olympia Snowe’s campaign manager) who had an ad on TV saying the welfare rolls in Maine had exploded and now included 129,000 people. Since Maine’s population is not very big, I contacted this man’s office and found out that anyone getting food stamps (which often includes the families of military personnel) was said to be on welfare. Food stamps recipients, of course, make up the overwhelming majority of the 129,000.
We have two senators constantly trumpeting their moderation who can always find money for war and banks, but can’t find any money for human beings. Idiotic Democrats and Independents keep returning these Republican whores to office. What can you say when people are so stupid, particularly when they have had excellent candidates to choose from, candidates who supported single-payer health care, retooling the military industrial complex to make goods people need, support for education, etc?

First, it’s Carl Levin and not Sander Levin, TD.
After watching the repukes spew their latest tripe in the past few days claiming that Americans are lazy and that the system(unemployment) is to soft on these sponges of society and claiming that those of us who are unemployed are not entitled to unemployment benefits, even though we have paid half of our benefits if we ever need them in with our taxes withdrawn from our paychecks before we ever see any money and our employer pays the other half even if they never have an employee collect these benefits. These same insensitive asses think that we should become a nation of hobos and go around and do odd jobs for people who need them rather than collect unemployment. Well during the Great D3epression my grandmother used to tell me of the times back then and once in a while they would have a man(usually)do some work for them and they would feed them as they didn’t have any extra money either. Meat was 5 cents a pound, but no one had 5 cents. So just where do these idiots in congress think that the average person who is barely getting by now can afford to “hire” all of these out of work and displaced workers for money. Or will they work for a meal now-a-days? Will it be like the “chicken lady” who tells the medically uninsured to pay their doctors in chickens or paint their house or something. Well, the chicken comment will be met with a big NO and as for doing tasks for the medical treatment, that would no doubt fall flat also as there are a lot more people out there who would possibly be able to do the work than there is work to be done.
To bad we have more than enough monies for all of Bush’s illegal continued wars that are not really paid for but a safety benefit that all working people pay into is now being denied to them in their time of need. America, but especially Republicans should be ashamed of themselves, what kind of an image do we present to the rest of the world when we put wars and destroying lives in other countries above taking care of those at home? Not only do we loose with the destruction we create all over the rest of the world, we create destruction within our own country.
Russia learned the hard way about bankrupting their country with endless wars over their own welfare and look what it did to them. Now we are going the same path that they did several decades ago.
Instead of throwing people off the train, bring back the jobs that outsourcing took away from us in the first place. You can only work if there are jobs available and in some areas there are hundreds of people for every job opening available. I have seen it in the past in Flint, Mi. when Ac had less than 7 job openings over 1300 people showed up for those few jobs. We are no better off today than we were back then.
When there are more than enough well paying jobs available for those who need them, then maybe we can think about ending extended benefits, until that day comes millions of people still need their unemployment benefits, what does the Repub party want to see these same people apply for the welfare rolls as most of them have families to support?

I found out the congressman from my district voted ‘Nay’ (no big surprise). I have contancted his office by phone and email.
Considering I live in an area full of ‘little Eichmann’s’ I don’t think it will do much good.

Health Care Reform…...Camille Colatosti Z mag Mar/93
A single payer approach could save the country $67billion
in its first year. So why is it getting shoved off the
agenda?
With President Bill Clinton promising to reform the nation’s health care system within his first 100 days of
office, the United States faces its first real chance for
improving insurance coveraGsince the advent of Medicaid
and Medicare in 1965. But health care activists, rather
than proclaiming victory, find themselves scrambling to
learn more about the reform proposal that the new
President most favors—managed competition.”

Kerryrose: Seventeen Republicans prevented the bill from passing. Who, exactly are those seventeen? The record is available.
Report thisIf a mere ten thousand citizens wrote a personal hand-written letter to those seventeen Republicans, complaining, and making the case for extending unemployment insurance to people in great need (families, debts, mortgages etc.) those seventeen Republicans would be so surprised they would feel forced to re-think.
Ten thousand people won’t write them. Why not?
Because they have been led to believe that “it won’t do any good.” It’s called “defeatism” and it throws people to the wolves every day.
If people Google “Recent Unemployment Bill” or “Congressional Vote on Unemployment Bill” or anything like that, you will be led to find the names and addresses of those who voted “no”. It’s all in the record.
If caring people donate a few dollars to the Friends Committee on National Legislation , they can help the Quaker Lobby in Washngton work on the issue.Google them, too.

Can someone please explain to me how Republicans can throw 10% of the population to the wolves, and get away with it politically. Do unemployed people vote for them?
They can make unemployment benefits a priority, and find the money. They find it for much more unseemly things (like war). After all, it has been mismanagement of the economy, global trading, deregulation that led to the this situation.
They can’t create a problem, and leave the victims to fend for themselves. It’s disgusting.
