There’s hope on the Deepwater Horizon after a new containment cap was put into place and 6,000 barrels of oil was funneled to the surface in 24 hours.

While 6,000 barrels is a start, it represents only about a third of the oil being leaked into the Gulf of Mexico each day from the blown well. BP is hoping to increase the funneling volume in the days ahead. —JCL

The BBC:

A special cap funnelling oil from the Gulf of Mexico spill appears to be having some success, a US coast guard official has said.

Thad Allen said 6,000 barrels of oil were captured in a 24-hour period since the procedure began on Thursday.

This represents between one third and one half of the estimated oil being leaked every day since the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded in April.

Mr Allen said BP hoped to increase the amount captured in the next few days.

Environmental disaster in the Gulf of Mexico: The drilling rig leased by the oil company BP Deepwater Horizon was on 22 April sunk after an explosion, since large quantities of crude oil to flow from several leaks. The oil is now threatening the ecologically sensitive Mississippi Delta to damage sustained. I am disappointed that not a single one of the culprits in jail.

searoamer, June 5 at 2:08 pm,

Good question, there hasn’t been any talk about what types of blowout prevention BP has put in place for their new drilling to stop the leak, for all we know, the same thing could happen all over again.

Sadly, from the above post, BP’s cap only contains 1/3rd of the oil spewing out, so the destruction of the earth still continues until someone figures out a way to contain all the oil spewing into the ocean.

Hope?

Only Oilbama style ‘hope’ would greet the latest boondoggle from BP.

Does this photo, or video images of crude relentlessly billowing out the bottom of the “cap” look like success or hope to you?

How do we know ther pipe they capped is the only source of leaking oil?

What sort of blow out prevention is in place on the wells being drilled to stop the leak?
