He made a stir in 2008, and it looks like Texas wild-card Congressman Ron Paul is throwing his hat in the ring again for another try at the presidency in 2012. Paul will reportedly announce his intentions in Des Moines, Iowa, on Tuesday.

Politico:

A Paul source confirmed to POLITICO that Paul will announce an exploratory committee during a visit to Des Moines. He will also announce his Iowa political team.

Three members of the state party’s central committee will co-chair the Texas congressman’s campaign in Iowa, a source said.

Paul, who has a small but dedicated following, will hold a press conference at the Holiday Inn near the Des Moines Airport to make the official announcement.

Ron Paul having a small following.. you must be joking or not doing your research or simply downplaying his popularity.

there are nearly as many Ron Paul videos on youtube as about Obama. Even more interesting is that most comments are very positive for Ron Paul - something I have never seen for any politician including Obama..

He has the truth on his side and is not corruptible - of course they fear him..

If Ron Paul were elected and stopped the wars, stopped the flow of Jobs overseas, stopped subsidies for Mega Profitable Corporations, stopped the tax cuts for the wealthy, then the economy would rebound and there would be no need to attack the only two Government programs that pay for themselves - Social Security and medicare.

The Government could also begin to pay back to Social Security and Medicare funding the $6 Billion that it has stolen from the funds the taxpayers have paid in over the years to help those citizens as they enter the golden years.

Now there’s a change I can go for.

I went to a tea party looking for the independent candidates. There were none. They were republicans.
I was hoping they were against the wall street bail out. They were against rebuilding our bridges and roads.
They were ranting about a “fair tax” (previously called a “flat tax”). Rename it until they like it.
The Tea party is the republican party, renamed.
Ron Paul had a table there but not much support. Just some young folks that seemed quite out of place.
I was a Kucinich supporter but voted for Ron Paul in the primary. Ron Paul and Dennis work together often in congress.

Give Dr. Ron Paul a listen if you have never heard him and don’t confuse him with Rand Paul.

The dude ain’t about dumping all our social programs. He is about “raining in” the fed and all their wall street buddy’s plus bringing ALL our troops home. He says “no wonder they are attacking us, what would you do if a foreign army was in your country?”
The dude makes sense.
It would be great if he picked Nader or Kucinch for VP.
He has my support until the CIA takes him out.

ThirdMan, I look at it like John Quincy Adams: “Always vote for a principle, though you vote alone, and you may cherish the sweet reflection that your vote is never lost.”

I don’t vote for the lesser of two evils any more; the lesser of two evils is still evil. In other words, I don’t vote for a Repub to keep a Demo out of the White House, or vice versa. I vote my beliefs and my principles, and if no one else does ... so be it. At least I tried.

Mr. Paul will try to do away with Empire which is fine with me but when it comes to “then what” he wants to return the nation to the end of the 18th century which is dangerous nonsense. He does not understand that what is needed after the demise of Empire is the change from the current half-assed Social Democracy to a real one.

Paul, would there ever be enough of us to make a dent?

Certainly, ThirdMan, if Dr. Paul ran as a third-party candidate, I’d gladly vote for him, regardless of what third party he represents—again, because I’d be voting for the man and not the party.

As for the doctor’s wanting to “do away” with Social Security, well, Mack, remember something Eisenhower once said: “Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history.” So I’m not worried; trying to end Social Security would be so enormous a task, one man, even in the White House, couldn’t do it. Ending the silly, stupid wars and ending the wasteful, idiotic military-industrial complex will be tasks enough for Dr. Paul if he does make it to the White House (mirabile dictu).

Interesting question: If Ron Paul ran under a third party would you vote for him?
What if that third party was the Tea Party?

I must admit, it’d be a tough one to swallow.

Dr. Paul’s the only Repub I’d vote for—because I’d be voting for the man and not the party.

Nuff said.

So-called liberal (really gatekeepers for the status quo) websites ignore or vilify him. So-called conservative websites (also status quo gatekeepers) ignore or vilify him. He must be doing something right: like promoting anti-war ideas and pro-Constitutional ideas.
Do I like his economic theories? No. Do I like Obama’s? No.
It’s time to show the powers-that-be we’re no longer supporting them. Get behind this candidate and let’s see how it shakes out.
As Ian Welsh wrote:
“This is why Obama must lose in 2012. I would prefer that he lose to a Democrat in a primary, then that Democrat wins, but he must lose regardless.  If he loses to a Republican, then 2016 you get a chance to put someone in charge who might do the right things (or even just some of them.)”
Ron Paul is better than any RNC Republican around. Support him please.

Gotta admit, Ron Paul is one of the few representatives
I trust to take the right stand on foreign wars, the
drug war, torture, spying, corporate welfare…  He
might not be right on everything, but he’s got a
consistent record on some of the most important issues!

People can say what they want about him, at least Ron
Paul has been a tireless voice opposing these wars.

Who said the republicans don’t care about, and are doing nothing about the unemployed? Assuming it takes at least three to five explorers to form an ‘Exploratory Committee’, about 5K to 10K new jobs exist just to fill the positions being offered by the gaggle of GOPer 2012 presidential candidates.
