Health Care Act Wins a Battle on Its Way to the Supreme CourtPosted on Sep 8, 2011
A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Virginia ruled in favor of the health care reform law Thursday, dismissing two suits. Virginia Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli protested, saying the court did not address “whether Congress has a power never before recognized in American history: the power to force one citizen to purchase a good or service from another citizen.” Two of the three justices on the panel were appointed by President Obama. The other was appointed by President Clinton. These are but two lawsuits of 30 (by AP’s count) filed against the health care reform bill, and Cuccinelli says he will appeal. Without a doubt, Obamacare, as it’s known in some circles, is headed to the highest court in the land. Perhaps the Supremes will sing a different tune. —PZS

You are technically correct, Erica. But mandatory auto insurance was just a step on the path, as is mandatory TSA screening at the airport. “You don’t have to fly”. Eventually it will be “you don’t have to take the train, or a ship, or a car…you don’t have to go into the department store…you don’t have to leave your house.”

mdbaker- mandatory auto insurance is different than the mandatory health insurance law. People make a conscience choice to own a car, thus they are chosing the fact that they now need to purchase auto insurance. Americans don’t “have” to own vehicles but rather chose to. In the Health Care Law, people have no choice, you must buy health isurance no matter what just because you are an American. Big difference, maybe you should educate yourself a little more on things before making a statement. I live in the middle of nowhere, we have public transit, however, we still make a choice to either own a vehicle or not too, its not written in stone we must own a vehicle or be fined!!!

I take then that Ken Cuccinelli doesn’t know about mandatory auto insurance-
