Hawaii Says Mahalo, but No Mahalo to Civil Unions

Hawaii’s Republican governor has taken a very mainland approach to same-sex partnerships, vetoing a civil union bill that would have protected the rights of gay couples. Way to be laid back, Hawaii.

Maybe the islanders are just sick of weddings. They have more than anywhere but Vegas.

Reuters via Yahoo:

Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle on Tuesday vetoed a domestic partnership bill that would have allowed same-sex couples to gain most of the benefits and protections of marriage by registering civil unions.

The state, like many others in the United States, has debated fiercely whether gay and lesbian couples should be allowed to marry. Hawaii’s supreme court in 1993 found banning gay marriage was unconstitutional, but voters in 1998 amended the state constitution to allow such a ban.

“I have yet to meet a “GAY” who hasn`t been abused as a child or seduced by family or friends.”

Dear Peter Knopfler, Mental Health Worker…

If your “wisdom” and “counsel” are an example of what I can expect to receive when I make my appointment to see a Mental Health worker as you suggest, I hope you won’t be too offended if I just order a Fix-Myself-At-Home kit from the Miscellaneous Voodoo Accessories section of eBay instead.

I sure hope no non-heterosexual person who might be struggling with their sexual identity ever gets into your clutches. After one session with you they’ll NEED professional help.

“...just get some threapy!”

Not from someone who can’t even spell the word, thank you.

Infants are polymorphous-perverse. Everyone knows that

Stirred up the pot a little,
Killing Gays is not my idea or desire. Go to Iran , or Saudi-Egypt, there they kill Homos.
My arguement is that in 43 years of Mental Health work, never seen a gay infant.
My understanding of functional biology doesn`t include a two way street in the rear.
We are, maybe, some of us are above primates and animals that lick on sight, yes For them its normal for principled Humans not so.
Playing with poop means toilet training,
so get it some don`t.
I have yet to meet a “GAY” who hasn`t been abused as a child or seduced by family or friends.
I did child abuse cases for 4 years, what people do to infants-children is HORRID. 4 years of tears,
we have in Hawaii a State fund for children abandoned in hotel rooms-Yes parents come vacation and leave an infant in the room- very sad- that child will be vulnerable to addiction and identity issues, easily seduced and the childs yearning for love makes it easy for a Gay Prey. If you are helping damaged children, you will see it all!

“All this Huff and Puff to make Homosexuality seem normal or the illusion that someone is born Gay haven`t seen to many Gay babies lately.”

It’s perfectly normal.

As for the “Poop shoot” (how sub-adolescent) read “Howl.”

OK,Peter…

You keep on posting LIES and I will continue to counter them with FACTS.

Homosexuality, amongst primates as well as many other species, IS A COMPLETELY NORMAL OCCURRENCE. You could go out and kill every homosexual alive today, and tomorrow about 10% of the babies born WILL GROW UP HOMOSEXUAL. NORMAL is what occurs NORMALLY, NATURALLY. It may not be natural TO YOU but so what?... who appointed you to determine how everyone else should be?

Oh ya… BTW… HOMOSEXUALS are created by… guess who? Yup… HETEROSEXUALS!

Get over it, Pete. Just ‘cuz your “poop shoot” is closed to all cummers it doesn’t give you to right to shit all over about 30 MILLION of your fellow Americans WHO ARE GAY. NATURALLY. NORMALLY.

One more BTW… only a small percentage of homosexual men “take it up the poop shoot.” Many gays don’t like it either! Being gay has VERY LITTLE TO DO WITH THE SEX ORGANS but I doubt you’d understand that.

A Final BTW… MANY WOMEN TAKE IT UP THE POOP SHOOT… and enjoy it! Talk about birth control!

OK… over to you. Post your next load of crap! I’m waiting.

All this Huff and Puff to make Homosexuality seem normal or the illusion that someone is born Gay haven`t seen to many Gay babies lately!
This attitute of tolerance backed by science or social engine-ering, or too much floride in the water and factory farmed eggs makes boys gay. All this is for nothing, when it comes to Men the poop shoot is a one way street, out not in, thank you!

Followup:  on radio the idiotic governor backed up her decision to veto saying that civil unions weren’t a civil rights issue because there are restriction on marriage already in that cousins can’t marry.

Except (as a caller pointed out) - they CAN marry in Hawaii.

Lingle’s rebuttal?  “I don’t know if that’s true - I’ll have to check.”

So, she feels she can expound on marriage rights and marriage laws when she doesn’t even know what they laws ARE within the state she governs?

WHY won’t the legislature override this idiot?

Peter, your “Gays in general have not had a good reputation especially with children.” requires finishing to be honest and truthful.

Your statement is a very thinly veiled accusation that gay and lesbian people are a great threat to children. THIS IS A LIE and YOU KNOW IT.

The VAST MAJORITY of child abuse crimes are committed by HETEROSEXUAL MALES… like 9 out of 10. And for what it’s worth MOST CHILDREN ARE SEXUALLY ABUSED IN THEIR OWN HOMES BY ADULT MALE RELATIVES not by strangers and other creeps that hang around schoolyards.

There are terrific gay and lesbian people and there are scum ones. JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

It is malicious, false and defamatory to insinuate that children are more at risk by gays and lesbians than by “straight” people.

You can have your own opinions but you CAN’T have your own FACTS. How about stating “it’s my opinion” or “I don’t know anything about this but I believe that…”. You know… how about a little HONESTY.

During Vietnam the Military did R&R rest and recoop, these druck boys would pick up Boy-girls and get Hurt, Friendly Fire! Some say! Mayor Frank Fasi, made the Gender benders wear a Large Pink Button that says “I am a Boy!” long Before the sheriff Arpio of Arizona. Gays in general have not had a good reputation especially with children. Aloha and Mahalo, from The Kahunas!  So I Have Heard.

Governor Lingle is a terrible Governor. I thought I had suffered under one of the worst politicians around when WA State elected so-called Dem. Dixie Lee Ray Governor - Because she was a woman. She was so bad I was ashamed to tell people I was a woman, much less a Democrat [1980, btw]. Lingle is as bad, and she managed to veto several other good laws at the same time she vetoed this one.

She is hoping to go on to bigger things in the Republican Party, where her Conservative Jewish opinion will play as well as that of the Conservative Christian. I’d imagine people like this make religious folks ashamed to mention they are ‘believers’, just as I was ashamed of the Democrats…

For those who think this law allowing Civil Unions is good only for Gays, etc. Think again. I had a very good friend who lived with her long-term partner for over 10 years. They both worked, and they both paid for the house, groceries, and toys.

Then, they were both killed in a head on collision. Judy’s 2 sons were disinherited because Frank’s name was on the title to the property. They hadn’t married for personal reasons. They had both had disastrous marriages, and were afraid making a formal commitment would doom their relationship. Not a rational decision, perhaps - but understandable. Of course, if one of them had suffered from a chronic health problem, they would have suffered the same exclusions as Gay partners.

We majority, heterosexual, white, curmudgeons, make two real stupid mistakes. First, we assume we have the right to tell everyone else how to live. Then, we compound the error by thinking our stupidity will never backfire and damage ourselves and/or our families.

The members of the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce mostly favored the signing of the bill.  They were well aware that a good many tourist dollars would evaporate if Lingle vetoed it.  That is likely to happen.  Several of my gay friends have already canceled plans to attend events scheduled for the state or vacations they were planning to have there.

Gee, Jeff, I must have missed the ceremony giving you the right to act as judge and jury of anyone else on the planet especially those whose views and values are different from yours.

Gay and lesbian people are not asking for special rights… they expect to be granted the equal rights which are guaranteed to them as citizens of most civilized nations these days. Those rights are not yours or anyone’s to give or to take away. They exist as a matter of FACT. Period. Don’t like it? Tough.

You get to choose your opinions but you don’t get to choose your own FACTS.
