Obama’s Romney VP Guess: How does a four star general as Mitt Romney’s running mate sound? Barack Obama seems to think that’s a possibility, at least according to the Drudge Report, which reported that the president told a top fundraiser that Romney was considering selecting Gen. David Petraeus as his VP nominee. The White House, of course, shot down the rumors. Press secretary Jay Carney took a dig at the Drudge Report, telling journalists to be “mindful” of their sources. Obama, Romney Trade Barbs: It looks as if the 2012 race for the White House has devolved into a series of juvenile insults by both presidential candidates. This all started Monday night when President Obama accused Mitt Romney of having a tax policy that essentially turned the presumed GOP nominee into “Romney Hood,” an anti-hero whose tax policy makes him the exact opposite of Robin Hood. On Tuesday, Romney responded by calling the president “Obamaloney.” What did “The Big Bang Theory’s” Sheldon Cooper once say? Oh yes: “I’m polymerised tree sap, and you’re an inorganic adhesive, so whatever verbal projectile you launch in my direction is reflected off of me, returns on its original trajectory, and adheres to you.” (Read more)

Romney Veep Clues: If you want to take a serious stab at guessing who Romney will select to be his running mate, look no further than Wikipedia. Really! As TechPresident’s Micah Sifry noted, Sarah Palin’s Wikipedia page was updated a whopping 68 times (at least) the day before she was publicly announced as John McCain’s choice for VP. And in the five days before that, 54 changes were made to the page. (Read more)

GOP in a Pickle: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s charge that Mitt Romney hasn’t paid taxes in a decade has become a big conundrum for Republicans. On the one hand, if they respond to Reid’s claim, they’re keeping the tax return issue alive; on the other hand if they don’t, they make it appear as if the Nevada senator is right. Additionally, it puts more pressure on Romney to release his tax returns, since that would be the only way he could prove that Reid was lying. It’s actually kind of a brilliant move on Reid’s part. Words of Wonder: Florida tea party Rep. Allen West says the darnedest things, and now Mother Jones has “honored” him by putting together a list of some of the “best” things he’s uttered. It’s called “Shit Rep. Allen West Says: The Epic Video Anthology.” Pretty self-explanatory, right? (Read—and see—more

Video of the Day: Stephen Colbert had a “major” announcement to make on his program Monday night: The Comedy Central host and Chick-fil-A supporter came out to his audience as “straight.” A relief to Mrs. Colbert, to be sure. Colbert did a brilliant job skewering the hullabaloo involving the fast food chain, crediting Chick-fil-A with coming up with a new business strategy: “Just associate your product with a divisive political position and then wait for the cash to roll in.” He also thanked Mike Huckabee, who started the call for a Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, “for cementing in the minds of nonbelievers just what my religion stands for.” Hopefully Huckabee understands satire.
