Gingrich Still Supports Child Labor as Long as the Kids Are Really PoorPosted on Dec 5, 2011
In order to combat what he views as a “culture of poverty,” the newly minted Republican front-runner believes poor kids ought to be employed as janitors in their schools. “I believe the kids could mop the floor and clean up the bathroom and get paid for it, and it would be OK,” said the self-styled ideas man. Sorry, were you under the impression that the working class works? Allow Newt to correct the record: “Really poor children in really poor neighborhoods have no habits of working and nobody around them who works. So they literally have no habit of showing up on Monday. They have no habit of staying all day. They have no habit of ‘I do this and you give me cash,’ unless it’s illegal.” There’s conservative, and then there’s let’s turn school into a Dickensian nightmare. Gingrich’s comments, made over the course of a couple of different events last week, have, as you might expect, upset a lot of people. Gingrich sought to clarify his remarks Monday in New York, saying he was only talking about kids from housing projects who were older than the nine-year-olds previously referred to. —PZS

Over 90% of the RepubliCON-artists are heartless. Their agenda does not let them be anything but. They receive way too much $ from lobbyists and corporations. Gingrich, Bachmann and most CONS want to eliminate the minimum wage. They might be willing to pay you $5.00 per hour, but they would like to hire your 12-year-old kid for 3.00. If you complain that you can’t make it on $5, they will tell you that between your income and your kid’s income, you are beating the old minimum wage and “You should be grateful you have a job.” Cold, but somewhat educsted idiots is what I call them. Incidentally, Michelle Rhee runs Students First. Don’t be fooled by the name. They have received donations from people like Rupert Murdoch which, in and of itself, should be enough of a warning that the organization is one to stay away from. Turns out that they want to establish FOR-PROFIT schools throughout the country and expect to spend a billion $ over the next 10 years
Report thisdoing it. This is a right-wing trick to try closing many public schools and deny educations for poor and many middle-class children.
Furthermore, the CONS know that the less informed the electorate is, the better chance they have of winning elections. Frankly, in my opinion, if everybody learned the truth about the CONS, no poor or middle-class voter would vote for them. They and the right-wing talk show host spin, mislead and outright lie on a daily basis. And, at least when it comes to politics, FAUX does it constantly. Their people KNOW that they have to spin such news or they will be fired. ABSOLUTELY TRUE! Isn’t it a shame we let this happen? We should be able to vote on forcing hosts and news shows to tell the TRUTH! Of course, this would mean an end to the conservative hosts within 2 weeks! And FAUX would have to clean up its act. Canadians told their gtovernment “We don’t want Fox News North.” Smart people. But their right-wing PM let a conservative corporation start broadcasting “news.”

At that age the only thing that can govern the wealth of kids is inheritance. The nasty “I” word that the media never seems to mention anymore. Nasty, deep, and darkest secret in the U.S. is how much of the wealth is inherited? 85%? 95%?

“The Japanese for a very limited understanding of what you would call democracy.”
Maybe so but the Japanese are famous the world over for how they care for and protect their children. America as a society, on the other hand, is infamous for not doing either. Remember how George W. Bush wouldn’t allow legislation that would have guaranteed health care for American children? There’s a long history of such brutal indifference to children’s needs in America.
‘In the spring of 1903 I went to Kensington, Pennsylvania, where 75,000 textile workers were on strike. Of this number at least 10,000 were little children…Everyday little children came into Union headquarters, some with their hands off, some with their thumb missing, some with their fingers off at the knuckle’ (From ‘A People’s History of the United States, Howard Zinn).
Ah, the good old days. The days Newt is hankerin’ to get back to. Newt Gingrich is a fascist as are most of the movers and shakers in the Republican Party. I just thought you might want to know. Newt and his colleagues are bogged down in a Hobbesian philosophy that says the poor are sinners and must be punished for being poor. The flip side of this is that the rich are virtuous, righteous and blessed by God, even when they’re Dick Cheney. Gag reflex setting in. I’m sure you can see where this leads. Poor kids mopping the halls of their schools, for example. Can’t you just imagine the hell their lives would be if they had to do that and the mockery and disgrace they would endure? Clearly Bighead has a very little brain inside that giant skull of his.

or do you regard college teachers as unemployed?

This is bullshit Newt style. Throw something out there and see if it sticks then sit back and chuckle at those who took the bait. The man is a parasite. Never worked a day in his life. Always on the government tit or running for office and misusing campaign cash.
He was always the butt of jokes in school - fat and ugly, an easy target to hit. A psychopath who has been plotting revenge his whole lifetime.

Having all of the kids clean the school would seem like both a good team building exercise and good learning for kids of all social classes - wealthy kids would benefit from learning about what it’s like to do blue-collar jobs, and kids from neighborhoods with high employment would have an opportunity to work.
Unfortunately, the way in which the idea was presented by Newt seems divisive and unlikely to lead to a positive outcome.

Singling out a particular group, at the exclusion of
other groups, and requiring them to, in this case, do
janitorial work in their schools not only flies in
the face of what democracy is about, it’s
unconstitutional.
Take Arizona which has decided that people who “look
like aliens” can be pulled over and made to show
proof of citizenship. Wrong. Everybody must be
pulled over and required to show proof of
citizenship.
Slightly different but consistent with the on-the-
Report thisfast-track-to-killing-our-democracy is the SC ruling
that corporations have personhood. Fine. So GE is a
person, then GE (if a citizen?) has a right to vote.
I look forward to a, say, washing machine registering
to vote followed by a trip to the polling place and
pulling the lever of choice.

As far as I know, Japanese schools still don’t hire janitors. The kids clean the place—all of them and not just the poor ones. In a decent society (not one like ours) it wouldn’t hurt kids at all to do something useful once and a while. Not everything about China’s “Cultural Revolution” was bad.

While the US is trying combat child labor in India and Third World countries, the “front runner” wants to exploit child labor in this country amongst the poor - so what’s the difference between US and India?
Maybe Newt has an idea. Nike can move their factories back to the land of the free and have ghetto and project kids making $180.00 sneakers for $5.00 per day. The hell with their education, it is sub-par any way.
They could help to support their unemployed parents who have no work habits. At
the rate we are going, many of the middle-class kids will be vying for those jobs also. Besides, isn’t it the kids who dirty those bathrooms Newt wants them to clean - so it is only fitting they do the work.
The only problem Newt has to work out is what to do with the adults these kids are going to place on the unemployed rolls? Maybe we could send them to Mexico as agricultural workers with the growing industry of drug cartels.
Report thisWell, it seems as if Newt has the unemployment problem under control and an answer to doing something about our high uncompetitive minimum wage of $7.25 / hour. Just legalize all the Mexicans who are taking jobs and hire kids. Sounds like a plan to me.
But, remember, he only wants to do this as long as the kids are really poor. Just give it time Newt, because if you are elected president, it won’t be long before we all are poor. I just hope there are enough toilets for all of us to clean.

What is a Newt? A newt is a small lizaroid and slimy creature, hardly evolved at all.
The nasty opinions coming out of the Republican Party should receive the rebuke they deserve. Considering the crimes of some of the Republican elected officials and Newt they should all be in jail.

Didn’t everyone know, that’s the good Republican way of doing things? Throw some wage earner out of job, then belly ache they are lazy and useless! They do it all the time with prison inmates. It’s cheap labor that saves the taxpayer millions so they can give it to big business and enrich them.

Newt is an ass and a lier! As a liberal my reaction is just what Newt works very hard to foster and receive from all Liberals, the more animated the liberal reaction is to Newt, the more successful Newt sees himself!
From what I have herd, Newt was the most divisive politician of his time, (he may be a panty waste in today’s Congress) Newt apparently loves to polarize people, so he is like the ass hole relative who upsets everyone at the family Xmas gathering, his manipulation song and dance routine seems to have worked for Newt. I suspect Newt is just warming up, testying the waters sort of speak with his child labor crap, though other Repulcians have also wanted to eliminate child labor laws!(Governor of Maine?)
What seems to be happening with the Repulcians, they over reach, way over reach on purpose and come may back a little, so the Democrats end up further to the right at the end of the day! Until recently it has worked for them, but now with the Occupy the world Movement and Wisconsin recalls and Ohio even Mississippi voters are calling bought and sold Republicans on their blatant over reaching, maybe the NEWT animosity tide has changed?
