Gingrich Joins Gonzales Critics’ ChorusPosted on Apr 9, 2007
Though the Bush administration continues to support Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, another prominent Republican has called for him to step down. One-time House Speaker Newt Gingrich went on “Fox News Sunday” and said Gonzales’ “self-created” mess gets in the way of his job.

If you’re looking for a sign of the AIPAC attitude on any question, even when the connections are not all that obvious, look to either the Weekly Standard or the person of Newt Gingrich. Like most of the Congress, Gingrich is one of AIPAC’s wholly owned subsidiaries. Minimally, AIPAC could be expected to support a certain comity of approach between Israel and American in their dealing with the terrorist threat. Israel is known to employ torture routinely in its interrogations so one would think that, until now, AIPAC would have been entirely comfortable with a man like Gonzalez. Yet both Gingrich and the Weekly Standard - almost in unison not so oddly - have been making critical and unsupportive comments about Gonzalez recently. I’d guess now that he’ll be gone by the end of the month where earlier I’d had my doubts. Perhaps the Regime is readying us for a kind of retake of the Yezhov for Yagoda business we were given by Stalin in the late 1930s. Who knows? But with AIPAC’s attitude now known, can the whole of the Congress be far behind?

Of course I would not vote for the Newt but at least he has a brain which cannot be said for Bush and company.
Now will he go for the Impeachment of Bush/Chaney?

While it is in some way gratifying to see more Rethuglicans jump on the bandwagon, as is usual, it’s for the wrong reasons. Just like those who are against the war on Iraq solely because its prosecution has been inept and incompentently handled (as opposed to completely wrong to begin with and based on a string of lies), Newtie is only calling for Gonzales’ head on a stake because he didn’t fire these US Attorneys stealthily enough.
After all this evidence of malfeasance in every aspect of the Republican administration and the former Republican Congress, I am convinced that the party is morally bankrupt, and beyond redemption.
In light of that, why should anyone care what Newtie or any other Rethuglican has to say about anything?
Nancy Pelosi said it best “there’s a new Congress in town.” What THEY have to say is what matters.
