French Shocked by Jewish School Shooting

French schoolchildren leave a Jewish school in Paris on Monday after the interior minister ordered security to be tightened around all of the country’s Jewish schools after an attack on one in Toulouse.

There are potential connections to killings earlier this month, and the general sociocultural climate and the context of the current presidential campaign offer other possible explanations, but the French were left with a big tragedy and something of a mystery after three children and a rabbi were slain outside an Orthodox Jewish school in Toulouse on Monday.

The Christian Science Monitor:

The shooting deaths of three French children and a rabbi at an orthodox Jewish school in Toulouse today seems timed for maximum impact and shock value, coming in the midst of a French national election that has raised issues of security and national identity.

[...] In Paris, silent protesters are marching from Republic Square to the Bastille tonight. The leading candidates for president, current leader President Nicolas Sarkozy and Socialist challenger François Hollande, suspended their campaigns to travel to Tolouse and denounced the murders. They will also refrain from campaigning on Tuesday.

With ballistics reports linking today’s incident at the local Ozar Hatorah Jewish school school to two grisly slayings earlier this month that killed a total of three ethnic north African French paratroopers in the same region, the French are confounded by what the intended message of the killings is.

Looks like Lee Harvey Oswald to me.

Or DID before he was buried.

I would put nothing past Sarkozy, or any other fascist genocidal creep.

Plenty of folks in Europe channeling Franco these days—and not only Rajoy in Spain.

What no one has pointed out yet is that the presumed killer is in a shoot-out with the French police.

The presumed killer doesnt seem to be too riled up about elections. Doesnt seem to be a conservative either. But Arabian Sinbad knows thats where the blame belongs anyway!

“Maani—-that’s a good and interesting point you’ve raised.”

heterochromatic,

I am pleased to notice that you’re evolving for the better! I mean in some of your latest posts you’re showing a kinder, gentler attitude by not being sarcastic and inimical to others’ points of view! Keep up the positive evolution! And be assured that I am not being sarcastic.

No matter what the case might turn out to be, the French cannot scape the fact that it’s the racist and bigoted bunch among them who are responsible for renewing a culture of racism, bigotry and massacres of which they have a well-documented historical record.

Arabian Sinbad already has the blame apportioned out, and ‘No matter what the case might turn out to be’ by golly there is no reason to blame anything or anyone else! wink

Dontcha just love how Leftists approach everything with an open mind?  /sarcasm off

LOL funny.

What no one has pointed out yet is what the article is suggesting: that this was somehow timed vis-a-vis the election.  We all saw what happened in Spain, where a singular event just prior to the election changed the entire nature of it.  It could happen in France as well.

Leftists may love the guillotine, but the rightists are scared to death of it.  LOL

That should tell anyone volumes, if they bother to analyze it.

I guess that the press and public have something of an expectation that people
will die when there’s a war going on….and find it more “newsworthy”  when the
attacks and death are unexpected and not part of a shooting war…....

even so, the murders in Afghanistan, because they were committed by an
American soldier, have received far, far more press attention than any of the other
incidents.

Killing is an abhorent act. Killing children is worse.

Still….16 Afghans [including children] are massacred by U S soldiers, and
25 Palestinians [including children] were killed by the Israelis last week,

This past week three French soldiers are shot. This week a Rabbi and his
children are shot in France. Is the msm treating them equally?

Sinbad—-I doubt that anyone knows the motive as of
yet…. and I doubt that the French are going to
scapegoat Palestinians for this…....

relax a little. I strongly doubt that any Palestinian
group would have organized this and suspect that the
French may just go about investigating this in a decent
manner.

Certainly, a savage cowardly act against school children, no doubt motivated by racism and bigotry against “others” who are not of pure Franco descend.

France, like the U.S. has its fair share of evil racist past. As moonraven stated below, France has a history of culture of massacres, starting, at least, with the Crusades, and running through the French colonial era in Africa and Asia. So in a sense this latest savage massacre can be considered metaphorically as French chickens coming home to roost.

In the last few years, there was a new wave of bigotry and racism, openly led by right-wing politicians, against the “others” French citizens who are deemed to be of impure Frankish descend, and particularly against Arab-Muslims and Jews- i.e. Semitic people. Remember that just few days before this latest massacre, two or three French police officers of Arab North-African descend were shot to death. However, that incident only came to light after this latest one against a Jewish target.

Now, theories abound about who is/ are the perpetrator/s. My greatest fear is that the French authorities, in case of failure to catch the real perpetrator/s, or deliberately, might try to find a scapegoat by placing the blame on Palestinian/s, who were already mentioned in the news article from which this TD thread was based on.

No matter what the case might turn out to be, the French cannot scape the fact that it’s the racist and bigoted bunch among them who are responsible for renewing a culture of racism, bigotry and massacres of which they have a well-documented historical record.

Toulouse has a long history of being the center of a culture of massacres—starting at least with the Albigensian Crusade.

This was tame by comnparison, but I suspect they are just warming up.
