He survived one plane crash already, in 1978, but on Monday night former U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, was not so fortunate. He was one of nine people aboard a plane that went down in southern Alaska, and on Tuesday his death was confirmed by a former staffer.  —KA

The New York Times:

The body of Mr. Stevens was found just after daylight, according to the aide who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of respect to the family.

Three survivors were airlifted to Anchorage for further medical attention.

A rescue crew from the Alaska Air National Guard and the United States Coast Guard arrived on the scene more than 12 hours after the crash, hampered by rain, high winds and heavy fog in an area of mountains and lakes north of Bristol Bay.

The European aerospace firm EADS said that the chief executive of its North American operations, Sean O’Keefe, 54, a former NASA administrator, was also on board.

I went to sleep and had a dream. I dreamed Stevens had left his entire fortune to the American People, from whom he stole it. Then I woke up.

Mr. Stevens unfortunately was a glaring example of alot thats wrong with our politics. He appeared to not give a damn about what is best for the country. He funneled billions into a state that has less people living in it then many of our cities , let alone other states. He is known for the $250 million dollar bridge to nowhere, another example of misplaced priorities. He is also known for taking money / help from a major contractor in AK. at the time used in adding onto this house. He staunchly defended the last criminal admin., a conservative boob till the very end, a cranky old dog in the senate who spent more time playing the role of the old cranky dog in the senate rather then solving anything for the people. As everyone gets all wrapped up in eulogizing old Ted, perhaps its good to not disconnect from his history in the senate too much.
