Florida Republican Gov. Rick Scott on Friday signed a bill prohibiting women from getting abortions if the fetus is deemed able to survive outside the womb.

HB 1047, which replaces a state law that prohibits women form obtaining abortions 24 weeks after pregnancy unless their lives are in danger, requires that abortion seekers consult a doctor to determine whether a fetus can survive.

Doctors who violate the law could suffer a criminal charge or administrative discipline.
