Ensign

An extramarital affair with a former campaign staffer, as well as the ensuing ethics investigation about same, has driven Nevada Sen. John Ensign to resign, as the soon-to-be-former senator announced via a statement he issued Thursday.  —KA

AP via Google News:

Ensign said in a statement that he will send Vice President Joe Biden a letter Friday making the resignation official.

“While I stand behind my firm belief that I have not violated any law, rule, or standard of conduct of the Senate, and I have fought to prove this publicly, I will not continue to subject my family, my constituents, or the Senate to any further rounds of investigation, depositions, drawn out proceedings, or especially public hearings,” he said. “For my family and me, this continued personal cost is simply too great.”

The Republican, who is under investigation by the Senate Ethics Committee, announced in March he would not pursue re-election.

Because Politicians, both Dems and Repubs, are so delusional they can say
something like:
“While I stand behind my firm belief that I have not violated any law, rule, or
standard of conduct of the Senate…”
and absolutely believe it.  They are so out of touch with anything that passes
through their lips that raging hypocrisy doesn’t even stumble them up.  I
believe David Vitter has sought forgiveness and believes he has been forgiven,
and everything is a-okay.
But you know what?  I blame us.
Nobody really believes in good ol’ values.  We just pretend we do because
everyone else is pretending they do too. We get all uppity and judgmental when
the other side comes clean and acknowledges it’s human.  We know Uncle
Teddy cheats on his wife on Wednesday but sings the loudest on Sunday.  We
know we all give in and fuck up from time to time, but somehow we think that
rich white privileged men are going to uphold a higher standard?  Really?  You
may say you are not shocked, but really, nobody is shocked, we just love to
squeal hypocrite when the other side gets caught.  Who cares anymore?  Why
even go through the motions of debates and ideals? Just vote for your favorite
color, red or blue, then suck up your beat down and try to look forward to the
new season of American Idol and Jersey Shore.  I’m really not being sarcastic.
Cheat me all you want, just stop the charade of righteousness. Apparently
nobody is going to stop you in your power grab. Look at Vitter, you don’t even
have to step down.  Just stop all the Christian bullshit. Just be real man.  I might
even respect you if you show your true colors.
