Harry Reid Calls for End to Prostitution
With his state in the midst of a budget nightmare, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has taken up a new issue: prostitutes.
Why the Obama administration changed its mind about the Defense of Marriage Act
The real surprise Wednesday wasn’t that the Obama administration decided it could no longer legally defend the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which mandates that the federal government not recognize same-sex marriages and stipulates that states need not recognize same-sex marriages from other states. It’s that it took so long to get here.
Sarah Palin Uses Alternate Facebook Account To Praise Sarah Palin
A ghostwriter named Rebecca Mansour operates Sarah Palin’s Facebook page, but that doesn’t mean the former half-term governor is too busy for Facebook. In fact, Wonkette has figured out that Palin appears to have created a separate account with her personal Gmail address (contained in the scathing tell-all that leaked over the weekend).
A WikiLeaks Clone Takes On Higher Education
WikiLeaks, scourge of governments worldwide, now has a copycat for academe. And the new group is itching to publish your university’s deepest secrets.
Glenn Beck Smears 35 Percent Of American Jews
Last month, 400 rabbis signed an open letter from Jewish Funds For Justice to Rupert Murdoch requesting that Glenn Beck be sanctioned for his false claims that George Soros collaborated with the Nazis.
Town hall question: “Who’s going to shoot Obama?”
Here’s the latest evidence that nothing has changed in post-Tucson America: A person at a Tuesday town hall with Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga., got up and asked, “Who is going to shoot President Obama?”
Google Tweaks Algorithm to Push Down Low-Quality Sites
Google said late Thursday that it had made a major change to its algorithm in an effort to improve the rankings of high-quality websites in its search results—and to reduce the visibility of low-quality sites.

Prostitution should remain illegal because guys who cannot get sex on their own are losers who deserve to suffer and be depressed and alone and we can point and laugh at them.
right on, the womens; cast off your old, tired ethics.
encourage your children to sell their bodies. act as
parent, pimp and procurer. start growing as a hole.
fare is fare.
“they should be able to market their last assets.”
Shouldn’t that be “able to market their asses?”
For that matter why shouldn’t the law be rewritten that every
sexually active woman be paid for their skills of erogeneity? With
a pay scale for various sex services. A whole new government
bureaucracy could be created to make sure of egalitarian practices.
That would create jobs. But then why bother with marriage? Think
of the money that would save! The county courthouses would lose the
license revenue but save money by not having to pay the salary of the
no longer needed license clerks! Not that many jobs lost. The delta
benefits would justify it.
At what age then ought females be allowed to be sexually active? How
young? 10 years old? How old? 70?
How about the guys? At what age? Do they have any responsibility in
the business of sex except to be the ubiquitous unrestrained consumer?
And yes, the pimps! What about the unemployed pimps! Wouldn’t they
also qualify to get unemployment benefits? Underwritten health care?
Retraining programs? Fair is fair.
OK…What happens when a woman or a man is unemployed and is offered a LEGAL job to be a prostitute (and, in the male case, 99.9% of the time that means a gay male prostitute)? Now that she or he is offered a “legitimate” job, if she or he turns it down are we going to cut off their unemployment insurance?
Will visiting a “legal” business (a house of prostitution) no longer be grounds for divorce?
Will sex workers be able to unionize, demand reasonable hours per week, safety conditions, both sexual and against abuse?
How will, say, OSHA ensure condoms are always used?
Will we spend tax dollars on regulatory agencies that come in and inspect working conditions, act as ombsbudsperson and check revenues?
Will health agencies inspect and test the sex workers?
These are all important questions, but the MOST important still is: Will pimps now have a LEGAL way to force women (and men) into prostitution against their will?

We don’t need to outlaw prostitution. We need to expand the craft to make
it legal throughout America. When the unions and the middle class is
destroyed, those women with no hope of ever finding a decent job again,
will need to peddle something on the streets to feed their families, since
most cities have laws against unlicensed apple carts—they should be able
to market their last assets.
I am from Las Vegas. I have known my whole life that we have legal brothels just a mere 1 hour away from the city. He has been here as long as I can remember. I have stood by him even when I didn’t agree with him because he always seamed to care for our state. I have never been bothered by the brothels or the stigma all of us here have to deal with and neither should Reid.
That is one of the main reasons that we attract the big money spenders and now he wants to eliminate them because after all these years he decided to grow morals. Well Harry you just lost yourself a vote.
We are depending on the prostitution trade to bring in money and you want it to go away. I would never sell my body and I don’t want my daughter to ever sell her body but there are plenty of women out there that are willing to do this work and some seam to enjoy it. I say why not make it legal throughout the entire state.
We could put our energy into bringing peace to the world without imposing our beliefs on them, medical research and health care, national and global economy struggles, and how about space exploration.
I will be happy when we get rid of these old tired beliefs set by the closed minded and fear controlled people of the world, and start focusing on growing as a whole. The Government seams to want to keep us stuck in the middle ages and forget that this is supposed to be the land of the free. (or in this case the paid)
I am for the prostitutes and when it comes time to vote I will make sure my stand is reflected in my vote.
I hope you read this Harry. I hope you see that we do not want your morals to run our state. We are Nevada and we should all accept the good and bad sides of that or move somewhere else. What will you go for next? Maybe the gaming industry?
Harry, you should start worrying about our economy so we can take care of the homeless families caused by our current financial crisis and quit worrying about women that put out for cash.
Fighting prostitution just makes you seam like all the other war mongers that want to pick a fight with people just to say you are doing something. I often think that politicians have a big book of all issues they may come across and when they want to seam to be doing something they just open the book and throw a dart. What ever it lands on they say, “Oh we need to start this or stop that.” Maybe if you actually looked into the issue further you would see the bigger picture and what it would do to the people you are supposed to be working for. Yes that is right…you work for us. We do not work for you. Something else everyone seams to have forgotten. Unless everybody remembers that we are all doomed.
We don’t need you to fight for our morals. We know what our morals are and frankly you have nothing to do with them.
I would rather vote for Bridget the Midget than Harry Reid.
Sorry it was so long but damn somethings need to be said.

Legalizing prostitution will generate tax revenue, require health/safety inspections and protect women being abused and exploited by Johns and pimps. We need to protect these women simply making a living. Progressive countries have legalized prostitution and marijuana. Our younger generations appear to be more open minded and less insecure and fearful. So maybe there is “hope”
She: The prostitutes ought to unionize and raise their rates, get free health care and Social Security benefits.
Well put.
End the oldest profession in the world? Uh, uh ... and pushing it underground will simply worsen the situation.
How can a Democrat be so aged in his reasoning? And this guy is a progressive? Progressively senile, rather.
Europe, always far, far ahead in matters of sex, where many countries allow prostitutes (men and women) to declare their profession, pay taxes, pay retirement and have access to a national health care service. (Which has helped to modulate the rate of increase of HIV infection.)
Morality is not on the list of American values. And there is Harry
foolishly trying to get Americans to be moral! He actually now has
put prostitution into the arena of public, or should I say pubic,
discussion. It will fall on flaccid ears.
If prostitution should be outlawed, the pharmaceuticals pushing
male enhancement drugs for impotence and lack of sexual verve
advertisements about 50 times a day will also have to be outlawed
to reduce the number of horny men who have to go looking for
prostitutes since they are wearing or have worn out their wives and
other women lovers who thought they were safe from the aging new
predators. Have you ever listened to those commercials? They are a
hoot!
The prostitutes ought to unionize and raise their rates, get free health
care and Social Security benefits. This deserves a rereading of
Aristophanes’ Lysistrata a play that is about persuading the women
of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their husbands and lovers
as a means of forcing the men to negotiate peace, a strategy however
that inflames the battle between the sexes. The play is notable for its
exposé of sexual relations in a male-dominated society and for its use
of both double entendre and explicit obscenities. Course permitting
prostitution would neutralize these women’s upper hand, uh…lower
hand.
