Egyptians wave the Palestinian flag outside the Israeli Embassy in Cairo in May.

Egyptian protesters attacked the Israeli Embassy in Cairo late Friday night, forcing the ambassador and his staff to flee to Israel for safety as the crowd tore down the newly built concrete wall that surrounded the building.

After breaking through the barrier, the mob moved on to the building itself, tossing Hebrew-language documents out of the windows of the 18-story-high embassy. The attack was the first of its kind since Egypt and Israel made peace 32 years ago.

The demonstration had begun peacefully in Tahrir Square, but quickly escalated as protesters moved to the neighborhood where the embassy is located. Officials have said that three people were killed and more than 1,000 injured in clashes between the demonstrators and security forces attempting to take control of the mob. —BF

Al-Jazeera:

The protesters were demanding the closure of the Israeli embassy, an end to gas exports to Israel and nullification of the Camp David agreement between the two countries.

A plane carrying Yitzhak Levanon, the Israeli ambassador, and around 80 others landed in Israel on Saturday, Israel Radio reported, as an Israeli diplomat condemned the attack as a “serious violation” of diplomatic behaviour.

Six Israeli embassy security officers who were still in the building early on Saturday morning were later rescued by Egyptian commandos, and then sent back to Tel Aviv on a second plane from Cairo, said Al Jazeera’s Nicole Johnston, reporting from Jerusalem.

I feel to a great extent that what happened is a way of venting Egyptians’ hatred for the Israeli world.for me,I was not actually there (in the protest) by the way,I wish I could burn the flag more than a thousands of times…satisfying really

Another reason for Israel to elect a new government, one that would truely attempt to co-exist with it’s neighbors, who are rightfully pissed.

Give the Palestinians their own nation, encourage and help that fledgling state and the world would love Israel for it.
*********

For once, on this subject, we are near-agreement, all but the last phrase:

I have a problem with the last phrase “...and the world would love Israel for it.”  I wish with all my heart that were true, but I cannot believe it to be so.  There are so many who see NO “acceptable” solution but the destruction of Israel and the conversion of it to another Arab state.

Meanwhile the current government of Israel is under the control of loonies who make up no more than 10-15% of the population. Just like Congress, being controlled by 87 or so Teabaggers who represent maybe 10% or lass of our nation, yet stymie any and all policies not their way.

It’s destructive for both nations.  It’s time for them and us to “throw the bums out!”

Yes, it’s wrong to invade an embassy…BUT it’s just as wrong to invade countries unless they attack or threaten to attack another country.

For every evil action there is a justified reaction similar to it in nature and opposite to it in direction!

This is a law of nature and a law of human nature. Evil Zionist Israel needs to be sent to the kindergarten of commonsense to learn the basics of human feelings!

The hunger of North African mobs can never be quenched, their desires have gone
beyond reality. Feeding them promises of prosperity or paradise is no longer
believed. Hard drugs and anti-psychotic medication has to be introduced to
shouting mobs, it is sure to quiet them down. The most important people will be
thousands of small time drug peddlers, there will be no desire for revolution only
a craving to get high.

It is wrong to invade an embassy or diplomatic mission. Having said that, let us keep in mind that Uncle Sam has done this very thing.

On May 29, 2003, U.S. soldiers raided the Palestinian diplomatic mission in Baghdad, Iraq.  During the raid, they arrested eleven people, including charge d’affaires Najah Abdel Rahman and two other diplomats.  Nine of the eleven individuals arrested were released in July 2003.  Najah Abdel Rahman and cultural attache Monir Subhi were released in 2004 after nearly a year of detention.
