Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki hosted the dinner at Iran’s swanky ambassadorial residence on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue

While a dinner party may not be the most agreeable setting for talks on nuclear diplomacy, Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki treated representatives of all 15 member nations of the U.N. Security Council to a meal in Manhattan on Friday night in an effort to re-engage the international community regarding Iran’s nuclear program. —JCL

The Guardian:

Dinner parties are not normally considered the diplomatic medium of choice of the Islamic Republic of Iran. But last night the regime’s swanky ambassadorial residence on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue became the focal point of the ongoing crisis over Tehran’s nuclear programme.

In a move described by UN observers as very unusual, Iran decided to hold a dinner for all 15 members of the UN security council. It marked the highest level of encounters between Iranian and US officials in recent years and was being seen by western diplomats as the latest in a series of moves by Tehran to put its case to the world before any further sanctions over its nuclear enrichment.

The event was hosted by the foreign minister, Manouchehr Mottaki. Of the five permanent members of the UN security council only China sent its ambassador, the rest being represented by lower-level officials.

It’s pretextual - Iran cannot prevent an (illegal) war, but it can (maybe) control the narrative, the timing, and the outcome - the nature of the post hoc.

The Empire, on the other hand, has only one option. If the Empire is seen to have been fought to a draw it will stop expanding. This is always the beginning of the end for empires.

This is a good thing. Jaw, jaw is always better than war, war. The Iranians are doing their diplomatic best to avoid being butchered by the Anglo-American-Israeli axis - just like poor Saddam did. Maybe with the help of 9/11 truthers in this country and all over the world, we can stop this war.

The US should get Israel to agree to an IAEA membership and accept the idea of a nuclear free Middle-East,and you can all wine and dine with Iran.

Iran and the Deep Politics of War

I think it was a wonderful decision for Ahmadinejad to visit with the Council on Foreign Relations. I think that decision alone stayed the hand of the Neocons in 2008. I would like to see the Iranian administration meet with the Bilderberg members, and the Royal Institute for International Affairs members as well as meeting with other councils and round table groups. These meetings are needed to cause dissension among the global elites in regard to war in Iran. These councils are the ones that truly govern the world’s governments. They are part of the para-politics or the deep politics that push the backmailed politicians as just so many pawns on a chess board. It must be acknowledged that people like Obama and GW Bush are just morally compromised figureheads who only do as they are told. If the more sensible psychopaths of the global elite can be convinced by the Iranian government to cease war making on the Iranian people then the transmission belt of academics will have to advise such puppets as Obama to stop the insanity. At least I can hope that such psychopaths believe in the senseless of mutually assured destruction.

The Iranians know that the real boogeyman behind all the proposed sanctions is Israel. They had Senator Joe Lieberman try to get resolutions passed that would have the US Navy blockade the Iranian ports to prevent importation of gasoline. When members of Congress were warned that this would be an act of war,Lieberman’s attempts were shot down. The most recent trick is to threaten any company that ships gas to Iran. The US knows that they will have a hard time conning Russia or China into any type of harsh sanctions against Iran so their most recent example of Chutzpah (shameless audacity)is tell that the Chinese and Russians that they would be exempt from any sanctions if they vote for the harsh sanctions agaisnt Iran. Netanyahu of Israel just again insisted that no gasoline should be shipped to Iran.
What Chutzpah!!
