John Demjanjuk leaves a courtroom in Munich, Germany, on Thursday.

It’s taken several decades and a couple of different judicial systems, but Thursday, John Demjanjuk, an American who helped the Nazis murder about 28,000 Jews at a prison camp in Poland during the Holocaust, was finally sentenced to prison. However, the 91-year-old former autoworker and death camp guard was promptly out on bail with plans to appeal his five-year sentence, according to The New York Times.  —KA

The New York Times:

Prosecutors had charged that Mr. Demjanjuk worked as a guard at the Sobibor death camp in Nazi-occupied Poland in 1943. His trial in Munich, beginning in December 2009, was the second time that he had been prosecuted — he was sentenced to death in Israel in 1988 only to have his conviction overturned five years later as a case of mistaken identity.

When the trial opened, Mr. Demjanjuk was listed by the Simon Wiesenthal Center as its most wanted Nazi war criminal.

Mr. Demjanjuk (pronounced dem-ahn-YUKE) declined to make a final statement to the court on Thursday.

I wonder if Mr. Demjanjuk is celebrating Israel’s
63rd birthday today?  Israel, once again, became a
nation on May 14th, 1948. This is a big moment for
us Christians.  Jesus will be returning soon. For
you Antichristians prepare for the great tribulation
rapidly approaching.  Can’t you see the change in the
weather patterns? Just the beginning of a whole lot
of WOE UNTO EARTH(Revelation 12).

A 5 year suspended sentence for mass murder?
what kind of BULLSHIT is that?
If the German court found him guilty of that crime, how
could they sentence him to such a non-sentence?

Whoever wrote this silly crap> It’s taken several decades and a couple of different judicial systems, but Thursday, John Demjanjuk, an American who helped the Nazis murder about 28,000 Jews at a prison camp in Poland during the Holocaust, was finally sentenced to prison < needs his head examined,to begin with.
As a Matter of fact, nothing ever had been > proven < for all practical purposes, starting in Israel(for the nuttiest place).Because Israel wanted another > Hollywood-Show Trial a la Eichmann < but could not produce the goods < they gave him back to the US at the Expense to the American Taxpayer,of course,as usual.
Dragging on for years, costing x-thousand of Dollars, without any hope to convict him ever, they finally decided > why not sending him to the always submissive,ass-kissing German-Boneheads < who could`nt resist, naturally as always,to bent over once more in cases like these.
If this is justice done, let`s send Cheney,Bush,
Wolfowitz,Rumsfeld, etc.to Den Haag for their part of War-Crimes and to face their day in court.

(AP)  BERLIN (AP) — An FBI report kept secret for 25 years said the Soviet Union “quite likely fabricated” evidence central to the prosecution of John Demjanjuk — a revelation that could help the defense as closing arguments resume Wednesday in the retired Ohio auto worker’s Nazi war crimes trial in Germany.

The newly declassified FBI field office report, obtained by The Associated Press, casts doubt on the authenticity of a Nazi ID card that is the key piece of evidence in allegations that Demjanjuk served as a guard at the Sobibor death camp in occupied Poland.

A horrifying sorrowful tale of inhuman crime and punishment.  Almost tops Dostoyevsky.  Question is:
What are we supposed to do with this tale?  What are we supposed to remember?  What forget?  Can such stories make any wrongs right—or rights wrong?  Amy had a guy on her show today—a Spanish judge and human rights advocate now under attack in Spain by people still insisting on continuing support for Franco and his fascist government, still fighting the Spanish Civil War.  Just shows how long evil is remembered, whereas good is apt to be forgotten in an hour. At some point in the course of South Africa’s national self-examination, all sides decided that retribution had to be given up in favor of reconciliation.
