D.C. Upgrades Its Free Condom Program

The District of Columbia is on pace to hand out more than 4 million free condoms this year,

It may just be an extraordinary guerrilla marketing tactic, but after complaints that the condoms given out by D.C. schools are “too small” and awkward to receive, officials have announced they are stocking up on Trojan brand condoms—including the super-size Magnum variety in a shiny gold wrapper.

The revised program will also authorize teachers to hand out condoms to students after the teachers complete an online training course.

The Washington Post:

High school students and college-age adults have been complaining to District officials that the free condoms the city has been offering are not of good enough quality and are too small and that getting them from school nurses is “just like asking grandma or auntie.”

So D.C. officials have decided to stock up on Trojan condoms, including the company’s super-size Magnum variety, and they have begun to authorize teachers or counselors, preferably male, to distribute condoms to students if the teachers complete a 30-minute online training course called “WrapMC”—for Master of Condoms.

“If people get what they don’t want, they are just going to trash them,” said T. Squalls, 30, who attends the University of the District of Columbia. “So why not spend a few extra dollars and get what people want?”

Oh, Diana… you are much too SENSIBLE for this world.

Our “leadership” is actually a “followership”... it is a rare politician who doesn’t “pole” his notions before committing publicly to support them. These “leaders” have ONE major objective… to hold onto their cushy jobs, salaries, perks and pensions. It doesn’t matter who they must pander to or how many principles they must abandon to do it.

OF COURSE every boy and girl, at age 11 or 12, should be lectured at home and school about how to stay SAFE sexually and given whatever supplies and support is required for them to achieve that objective.

Only an ABUSIVE MORON would deny kids the FULL INFORMATION… whether they are gay, straight or polka-dotted… doesn’t matter… SAFE is one hell of a lot better than SORRY.

Oh yea… those who think demanding “abstinence” from today’s lot of teenagers will get the job done are COMPLETE IDIOTS.

This is an excellent suggestion. WRAP IT UP! Save lives, protect youihs reproductive systems from diseases and early unwanted pregancies, avoids complications associated with hormone ingestion (the pill, ring, implants)and fosters hygiene…This program should be taken across American and to every community around the world where war and elevated birth rates go hand in hand(check out the war zones around the world).

Magnum condoms are called mediums in Russia.

But the mediums in Russia are called small in Africa.

DC is almost the San Fran of the Eastcoast, if it weren’t for congressional oversight, it would be a perfect city. I miss it.

Rae is absolutely right !!  Just the same, I think it will change the perception
concerning the use of prophylactics.  That IS a very good thing.  Kids are kids, and
it is best they don’t end up pregnant/fathers because they did not have access or
ability to use condoms.  Good job D.C.  Other areas of the nation could benefit by
exercising a similar tactic.  If the gold foil packaging and manly man size
encourages protection that is a positive step forward.  Hear that all ye Baptists and
whatever religion Sarah Palin is?  Contraception is not a dirty word.

“The revised program will also authorize teachers to hand out condoms to students after the teachers complete an online training course.”

Only in America would an adult, certified teacher need a continuing ed course, at taxpayer’s expense of course, to “hand out condoms.”

Thanks for the Laugh of the Day!
