Although Mitt Romney owned, in an interview with Nevada journalist Jon Ralston on Thursday, that he “misspoke” the day before in saying he was “not concerned about the very poor,” the presidential candidate might not have much wiggle room amid a speed-fueled news cycle and a chilly Rick Santorum standing watch. Also, Soledad O’Brien ain’t buying it.  —KA

Watch Ralston’s interview with Romney following the excerpt below.

“Opening Shot” in Salon:

“It was a misstatement,” he told the Las Vegas Sun’s Jon Ralston in an interview that aired on a Nevada station. “I misspoke. I’ve said something that was similar to that but quite acceptable for a long time. And, you know, when you do I don’t know how many thousands of interviews, now and again you may get it wrong. And I misspoke — plain and simple.”

He went on to stress that he wants to maintain a “strong and able ” safety net for the poor, but that “my primary focus is on helping people get in the middle class and help grow the middle class.”

“People are going to go after me when I make a mistake — when I slip up in a word I say, even though I say, ‘I got it wrong. Sorry, that’s not what I meant,’” Romney said. “Well, that’s going to be part of the political process. I understand it, and I accept that.”

Sorry, Mitt…you can’t unring this bell. Not that it matters, really—it’s incredible
that he has as many supporters as he does.

How will Thurston Howell III Trump this?  Personally I’m withholding support unless he secures the all important endorsements of the Kardasians, the Real Housewives, and the cast of Jersey Shore.

On all the blog and news site comment postings I’ve read (not ALL left/progressive) I haven’t seen one word of praise for Romney. Which is bad. It means Obama isn’t going to feel pushed at all. So it’s 4 more years of Larry Summers, Eric Holder and Timmy Geitner clones. 5% change as The Young Turks’ Cenk Uyger puts it. Not to mention blind eyes on The Fed and the Banksters. The GOP has failed their task to be any kind of reasonable opposition and ironically the Left will pay the price.

Romney is a cartoon, as are/were the majority of his opponents.

“Misspoke”?  Give me a break!  What really happened was that unconsciously he slipped and revealed his
lifelong sentiments by mistake.  It is quite possible that no millionaire is much interested in poor people.  Their universally neglectful behavior clearly indicates it.
At the present moment they have a golden opportunity to disprove my contention by getting together and offering, for example, a practical plan for stopping and reversing the flow of cash from the 99% to the 1%. So far, such a move is conspicuous by its complete and utter absence.
Nobody is even seriously suggesting that a few of them put together a “retreat” in the Cayman Islands for the purpose of suggesting ways to relieve any of the sufferings of their fellow human beings. Silence speaks louder than words, doesn’t it?
