Numbers compiled by The Economist show the loss of life in the latest Gaza-Israel conflict to be grossly disproportionate.

To begin with, three Israelis were killed in the fighting from Nov. 13 to Nov. 19, compared with 95 Palestinians. Looking all the way back to 2006, an estimated 47 Israelis have lost their lives in such fighting, compared with 2,879 Palestinians.

The firepower unleashed is lopsided too. The Israeli military struck 1,350 targets in the November fighting, while Palestinian militants fired 848 projectiles, 302 of which were shot down by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system.

Other figures, shown below, reflect the social and economic inequality between the two territories.
