Cops on Trial in Post-Katrina KillingPosted on Nov 19, 2010
In an event that pretty much defines the lawlessness and racial tension that existed in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, five current or former policemen are on trial for murder after the officers allegedly shot, burned and then shot again resident Henry Glover. One officer has publicly decried his alleged participation in the killing of Glover, calling it a “very bad decision.” The trial has been under way for more than a week.

In America, we stopped lynching Black folks, it’s a lot easier just to shoot them.

I have never lived in New Orleans and I have not studied the matter, but my impression is not that racial tension and lawlessness (on behalf of the police) began there after Katrina. What I have heard African-Americans from New Orleans say for years is that the police department was lawless and racist.
