Conservative Critics Rattle Sabers About ‘Ground Zero Mosque’

Posted on Jul 22, 2010

Right-wingers like Sarah Palin know that nothing gets Americans hot under the collar like some good old-fashioned wordplay. Take “death panels” as one recent example of fanciful rhetorical styling for political gain. Or how about this one: “Ground Zero mosque.”

The latter phrase, which (surprise!) isn’t technically correct, according to New York-based Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, has become a rallying cry for certain conservative operatives like Palin, Newt Gingrich and Carl Paladino, whom Salon colorfully references in Thursday’s headline, “Racist bestiality enthusiast joins fight against ‘Ground Zero mosque.’ ”  —KA

Paladino, who is challenging fellow mosque-opponent Rick Lazio for the GOP gubernatorial nod, is out with the following radio ad that reveals Paladino’s plan to use eminent domain to defeat the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque” when he is elected governor. (Never mind that that’s probably not possible.)

Why provocative Mosques are built on the top of others’ properties to disturb social peace and undermine human civility with disgusting noisy mega-microphones?  Why do Muslims implant a New York ground-zero-mosque with superior higher minarets (for the pervert-pedophile monster Mahomet, brutal-butcher rapist) - on the cemetery of Koran’s holocaust victims?  Muslims want to surround spit and invade non-Muslims to surrender to Mahomet’s fascism and totalitarian tyranny under siege.

In the 7th century, Muslims built a mosque on the top of St. John-the-Baptist cathedral church of Damascus after they had invaded Syria.  In Jerusalem, on the top of the holy site of the Jewish people, they built the “far mosque” and changed the name of the city.  For 1400 years Muslims have built many mosques on the top of Coptic plundered-churches across the Nile River and burned down the Library of Alexandria to build mosques instead.  In the 11th century, AlAzhar mosque in Cairo was once a confiscated synagogue with the existing David’s stars.  In Egypt, Muslims built two mosques on the top of the pharaohonic columns of Luxor Temple.  In the 16th century, In Constantinople’s, Turkey, Muslims converted the Agia Sophia cathedral into a mosque.  In India, Muslims erected mosques on the top of Hindu and Buddhist temples. Today, Muslims want to build a victory mosque on the bodies of 9-11 attack by Muslims, in ground-zero New York. Koran’s doctrine of offensive Jihad, supremacy and upper hand subjugation on non-Muslims are designed to propagate totalitarian tyranny, racist bigotry and Islamic Arabization.  The invasions of the terrorist-racist Islam Mafia are assigned to rob rape, confiscate and kidnap souls and create Islamic segregation in our Western world. Ban Koran virus, Ban and Outlaw Islam epidemic in the West and immune us from the scourges of the fascist mafia of Islam.

Naturally folks are sensitive to a mosque at ground zero when the terrorists were muslims. I suspect that Imam Faisal abdul Rauf is a good intended person and means no disrespect to the people of NY by building a mosque in that location. I do feel it is insensitive to the people of NY to proceed.
Religion seperates people and gives just another excuse to kill and maim one another…as if we need another excuse.
Based upon available evidence there probably isn’t a god. Perhaps we should attempt to be human instead of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus and all the rest. They are all myths and superstitions and they are bad for us. Humanity is enough. Love your neighbor, have compassion for your neighbor…be human to your neighbor.

Every culture, race, ehnicity and religion has its share of fanatics and crazies who, unfortuately broad brush the majority of their members in the eyes of others.

I see its working.

A petition against the Constitution is going to be pretty useless, even in this benighted age.

If you object to the Cordoba Mosque at Ground Zero, sign the petition at and pass it on. Any elected
official who supports this project should be investigated for who/what is funding
their next campaign. It’s called BLOOD MONEY, and that they can even ENTERTAIN
this idea is incomprehensible. This proposal is a moral abomination in every
respect, and so is anyone who can possibly forget the images of innocent people
jumping to their deaths on that beautiful, sunny Tuesday morning, entirely
because of—correctly interpreted or not—Muslim ideology.

I don’t think taxing the existing churches, synagogues, temples, mosques, etc., is going to go over at all well with the folk, even in cynical, godless New York City.

Churches, foundations and non-profits are all corporate with staff and directors making six figures and perks we can only dream of.

If they want to place an advertisement on the most expensive piece of Manhattan, with certain intrinsic value they can pay for it like anyone else, including quarterly property tax.

One of the reasons Washington DC fails to collect enough revenue to fix the streets, schools and aging infrastructure is the tax base is narrow.  Tax exempt non resident self-interest groups burn up the playground and don’t pay for it.

It is somewhat unseemly for the government to legitimate certain religious organizations, and not others, by exempting the former from taxation.  It does seem like establishment of religion(s).

Of course, we could abolish taxes….

Good point, Fat Freddy, but a lot of liberals have learned to dislike eminent domain already because of its use against the poor and minorities, and in favor of corporations and the rich, especially gentrifiers.

However, in this case, attempting to stop Muslims from building a mosque in downtown Manhattan through eminent domain is a non-starter because eminent domain is positive—government takes real estate for some theoretically constructive purpose—not negative, to prevent someone from doing something.  Plus, as I’ve noted, stopping the Muslims violates the Constitution, such as the First Amendment (free exercise of religion), Fourth Amendment (no arbitrary seizure of property) and the Fourteenth (equal rights).

So now Bloomberg and Andrew Cuomo (running for governor) can huff themselves up as stern defenders of our essential rights and the rule of law.  Way to go, Republicans!

How dare they subvert our country and our God!

We liberals must distinguish between free speech

Yes, yes. Liberals like to criticize Libertarians for their position on private property rights. Go right ahead. This is exactly the kind of shit we are talking about. What the government does to your “enemy”, today, they can do to you, tomorrow.

Re KA: Conservative Critics Rattle Sabors

Good grief! Newt Gingrich has completely lost his mind:

“. . . In a new blog post arguing against the planned Muslim community center near Ground Zero, Newt Gingrich explicitly argues that the United States should follow the lead of the oppressive theocracy of Saudi Arabia and reject the so-called Ground Zero mosque. . .

‘There should be no mosque near Ground Zero in New York so long as there are no churches or synagogues in Saudi Arabia. The time for double standards that allow Islamists to behave aggressively toward us while they demand our weakness and submission is over.’

I think Palin, Paladino, Lazio and so forth have gotten themselves out on quite a limb.  In order to prevent people from building a mosque two blocks from the site of the World Trade Center because of their religion or race, you’d have to change the Constitution right back to the First Amendment, to say nothing of the 14th.  Propaganda based on racism and religious bigotry tend not to work well except in very short time periods, so the time to pull the stunt would have been maybe a week or two before the election.  After that, people start to think.  Now, Palin may not care, because what she loses in New York she can make up in Missizona, but Lazio and Paladino are running in a state with lots and lots of people with whom racism and religious bigotry cut very little ice because they or their recent ancestors have usually been the objects of racism and religious bigotry and the crimes which they engender, including slavery and genocide.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out after the Republicans get themselves well settled on their chosen hooks.
