Congressman Arrested for Protesting DeportationsPosted on Jul 27, 2011
U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., was arrested in front of the White House Thursday afternoon with about a dozen others while demonstrating against the deportation of illegal immigrants. Gutierrez is a supporter of the DREAM Act, which would allow students who are in the country illegally to become conditional permanent residents if they meet certain qualifications. The bill was introduced in the Senate in 2001 and presented again last May. Gutierrez was released after paying a $100 fine, whereupon he returned to work at the Capitol. —ARK

I am missing something. Why are people being arrested during protest? Isn’t the right to assemble and the right to free speech granted in US citizenship?
What are the conditions in which someone is arrested for peaceful protest?
I am heading to DC in August for the XL Keystone Pipeline protest and McKibben promises that we will be arrested. I am prepared for that, but I still don’t understand why we would be arrested?

Liberals believe that because they’ve raised their consciousness it’s acceptable for them to do the unconscionable.
The liberal advocated **Pentagon’s** Dream Act will put brown bodies in the body bags filled by the resource and climate wars that (D) liberals will keep voting for.

Looks like what we need is more Congresspersons of conscience like Luis Gutierrez. Three cheers for him!
