The anti-war mom who famously camped out on then-President Bush’s doorstep is so offended by press secretary Robert Gibbs’ statement that Obama’s critics on the left ought to be drug-tested, she has challenged him to a “urine duel.” “I have no drugs in my system and nothing to be ashamed of—it’s Gibbs and the Obama regime that should be ashamed,” Sheehan said in a statement.

Cindy Sheehan / Press Release:

In Response to Robert Gibbs,
Cindy Sheehan Challenges him to a Urine Duel

Oakland, California - August 10, 2010 -

Today, in response to White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs’ insensitive remarks harshly and very unprofessionally criticizing the “professional left” for principled criticism of President Obama, Cindy Sheehan had this to say from her Oakland, Ca. home:

“I want to make it very clear that I am not a hypocrite and any criticisms I have made of Obama are the exact same things I said when George Bush was president because the same foreign policies have continued, if not worsened during the tenure of the Obama administration.”

In an interview with The Hill magazine released today, Gibbs stated that critics of Obama on the left need to be “drug tested.”

“I will put my urine up against Gibbs’ any day, and in fact, will travel to Washington, DC to give him a fresh and warm sample—I actually think supporters of Obama should be tested for ‘Hopium’ in their urine, myself,” Sheehan continued. “Since Gibbs is a liar and a jerk, I will challenge him to a pee-off.”

“I have remained consistent and ideologically pure in my activism and am highly offended that Gibbs would want to use such divisive language—is he trying to distract us from his boss’s dismal performance on just about every issue he has faced—not to mention the environmental catastrophe in the Gulf?”

“I have no drugs in my system and nothing to be ashamed of—it’s Gibbs and the Obama regime that should be ashamed,” finished Sheehan.

Cindy Sheehan is the mother of Specialist Casey Austin Sheehan who was killed in Iraq on April 04, 2004. Since then she has traveled the world seeking peace and justice and is the host of her own internet talk show: Cindy Sheehan’s Soapbox. She is also the Co-Founder and National Director of Peace of the Action and has spent considerable time in Washington DC since Obama became president seeking answers from him as to why the wars continue.

Sheehan lives in Oakland, Ca, is the mother of three surviving children and the very proud Gigi of three grandchildren and likes to spend every free minute playing with them.

Professional left according to Gibbs, as opposed to the unprofessional left means some people had cards printed?

Carl says,

“In short, an American military shipbuilder imports hundreds of welders and pipefitters from India to work in Mississippi! You didn’t see this in our corporate media did you? What has Obama done? People don’t realize there are millions of LEGAL foreign workers in the USA working as slaves, just hop in a taxi to see one.

Then Obama leans back, says we need jobs, and sends his wife on a multi-million dollar trip on a USAF jet to Spain to shop. Then he and Gibbs laugh at the stupid “leftists.”

————————————————

I am a leftist, and I agree with Carl.  I used to work.  And when I did work, I worked in the High Tech industry with increasingly more Asians and Indians.  They were here to get a green card.

Their managers knew it and would hold that carrot over their heads to produce more and be more subservient.

Their fear was that if they lost their jobs, they’d have to start all over again with some other company, if they could find another job, or return to Taiwan, India, Singapore or China.

One company pursued engineers all over the world.  Knit together by emails and web conferencing, the workers were expected to carry on in a business as usual fashion.  The last country they were searching for cheap labor was Chile.

And these jobs take over a person’s life.  The employess are on-call 24/7 and they are expected to be ready to do anything for the cause at any time.
If not, then it was nice knowing you.  You might get a good-bye luncheon and then you’re forgotten.

Here, in MA, these are the people who voted for Scott Brown.  He drove a pick-up truck and wore a barn jacket, much like they do.  They come to work shod in hiking boots as if a mountain is about to erupt in the computer room at any time.

All communication with their families is via email of by cell phone.  Most cell phones are issued by the companies to make sure that the employee can never hide.  They can run, but they can’t hide.

And all this seems to be acceptable with the discouraged workers saying, “What are you going to do?”

That is why the next attack, led by Obama and the State Department, is going to be on Labor, specifically unions.

The State Dept. will champion the cause of Labor.  The lefties will say “Yeah, Obama has come alive.”

Obama will say something mealy-mouthed about the cause and disappear to Martha’s Vineyard or Spain or the coast of Maine.

Congress will talk about it in their own inimitable manner, and the MSM will control the arguement.

Then, the Republicans will mount a staunch, united attack against socialism or communism, and the only arguments you’ll hear are:  How Socialist have our unions become?

The resolution will be a weak-kneed response to the country’s labor problems.

The lefties will say, “What’s the alternative?”

Here’s my suggestion. Mount a third-party campaign.  If we are going to go down in a slow-boiling pot brought about by capitalist’s plunder, then so are they.

Maybe rocket attacks on gated communities with daily tallies of the rich and powerful who’ve gone to meet their maker.  Exaggeration to make a point.

Or maybe, a GCI sponsored retreat in Alaska.

1 1/2 years is coming close to the average span of
service for press secretaries.  This could be a ploy to
dump Gibbs to make Obama look better to his liberal
base at the same time demonstrating to the swing voters
that his administration is not a total liberal machine.

Obama is a Republican, just a slicker type. 80% of Americans want most overseas military bases closed, Obama has added more! Bush was an honest crook, Obama just smiles and spins and dumb leftists can’t keep track of what he does.

The only reason he passed up Clinton and became President was because of his firm promise to withdraw our troops from Iraq. HE LIED! Now we still have five combat brigades there along with an army of expensive mercs, yet Obama appears on TV and says our “combat” troops are all gone! Where are the protests?

Obama staffed his office with Wall Street crooks who continue to steal. For example, all Americans think that $39 late fees for bills are absurd, but Obama will not touch that. Wall Street wanted Bush to push through a second illegal alien amnesty, but he failed. Now they think smiling Barak can fool the workers, even with 20% unemployment.

Here is one issue that 99% of Americans agree upon. We must stop issuing a million H-1 visas each year so that foreign workers can legally come here! Where is the outrage? Where is Obama?

Where is his jobs program? I’m talking about a million $10 an hour make-work jobs, not billions on big projects that pay a few over $100,000 each plus billions in profits.

re: CARL

“So what if a Republican wins”? No matter how bad people think this has been with Obama, I would never go to the Republicans for anything. Be honest and admit their greed and policy of power at any cost contributed the largest to our current dilemma. I wouldn’t even trust them to wipe my ***. We just have to get our politicians some guts to represent us and not their pockets.

WriterOntheStorm says,
“Clearly, the Obama administration is so entrenched in Washington politics that it can’t distinguish between political victories (as the health insurance bill was) and democratic progress (as that same bill surely wasn’t).

Gibbs said that the health insurance reform had been tried for 100 year.

I posit that in those previous years we’ve never had a Congress that was so willing to grant the Corporate sector their dream come true—get everyone to pay a duty for a shambles.

The insurance coverage they will provide is headed for disaster.

Paying into Social Security is one thing.  It guarantees a payback in the future.  All the money paid by the schmucks year-in and year-out goes to the Executive payouts, in the millions of dollars.  See DemocracyNow! August 12th.  I’m talking obscene pay outs, in the $100 millions.

Obama’s buddy in the Executive office of one insurer, took a pay cut.  He accepted $18.1 million.  A pay cut.

One worker here in MA, earns $762 a week.  He has a mortgage and two children.  His health insurance bill, which is not covered by his employer, would be $800 a month.

That’s not an investment.  That’s the ante to get into the health insurance game.

As the old song goes, ‘What are you going to do when the well runs dry?’

In this case, it might be, What are you going to do when the shit hits the fan?”

I agree with Mr. Gibbs, the left is full of wimps who will vote for ultra right wing Obama as instructed. Even that clown Michael Moore appeared on Corporate TV to tell all “leftists” that they have no choice but to vote for Obama again. Recall that Obama has increased military spending more than Bush, expanded the Afghan war, will keep 50,000 occupation troops in Iraq, kept Gitmo open, and killed single payer. No one on the left or center should support Obama in 2012. May I suggest they do what Gibbs dared == back Kucinich! So what if a Republican wins, he can’t be worse than Obama.

The “pissing contest” soundbite unfortunately overshadows the salient point
about Gibbs’ comments. Clearly, the Obama administration is so entrenched in
Washington politics that it can’t distinguish between political victories (as the
health insurance bill was) and democratic progress (as that same bill surely
wasn’t).

It doesn’t follow that what is good for the democratic party is good for
progressive values. Obama, a triangulating centrist in the tradition of Clinton,
views his mission and purpose through the twisted prism of political
pragmatism, in which merely retarding neoliberal economic policy and radical
right public policy is confused/conflated with enacting true progressive
economic and public policies.

I had previously thought that this was a willful choice on Obama’s part, but
Gibbs’ comment reveals that he may actually believe that he has achieved great
victories for progressives. What a sham(e).

I told my husband well before the 2008 election that I was not voting for Obama because he was a weakling. He may be intelligent and good-looking, but the way you climb the ladder in this country forces you to be a simple-minded weakling. We don’t like straightforward, honest, independent people, and they certainly don’t get rewarded at elitist factories like Harvard (churning out servants for the oligarchs) or with senatorial seats.

I’ve said for a long time that ALL politicians should be required to have regular urine tests. If they’re going to pass laws requiring urine tests and laws that harshly punish victimless drug use, then they should be subjected to regular testing themselves.

Thank-you Dennis .  .  .

“Rep. Dennis Kucinich tells ABC’s “Good Morning America” that press secretary Robert Gibbs shouldn’t have attacked the “professional left.”

Gibbs had said liberals were too hard to please and that they wouldn’t be content even with Kucinich, a renowned progressive, as president.

The Ohio Democrat said, “Those of us who call ourselves liberal say we’re not going to rest until we get back to a full employment economy.”

Information not quite in the Fact File

Robert Gibbs should have never left the BeeGees.  But his brothers couldn’t cover up that caterwauling sound so they showed him what exit stage left meant.

Since then he found that he had a hard time passing the canoli tray and put on a puffy face from his indulgence.

Now, he has decided to go it alone.  As a stand-up whiner and protest belly-acher for the big act:  Obama I.

Re WSmart: “Certainly not an alcohol breath test.”

I think Gibbs might need a little rest. He’s beginning to sound a lot like that crazy Senator Orrin Hatch who was running around a few of weeks ago trying to convince everybody that the U.S. unemployed were drug addicts:

“Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican, proposed yesterday that people seeking unemployment benefits or welfare undergo drug tests before they can receive benefits.”

I’ve got to admit, I like the idea for all of D.C., but mostly for Congress-all of them. Seems to fit their attitudes regarding how they approach work. They have no sense of integrity or the will to work for anyone except themselves and their pockets. That is not really acceptable in the private sector but they would be in like company, but in public office? It should not be acceptable in the least, nor tolerated anymore. The elitist demeanor of all party reps begs for change, which the Prez promised. He has made limited strides but I don’t feel his presence to accomplish like I did. So, random drug-testing sounds great. After all, weren’t they pushing sports for this very thing. It should be required for them like it is for all employees in this country to maintain or obtain employment. Shoots, they’re bad enough sober.

When a press secretary of a Prsident says criticism of the President is coming from drug addicts, it’s a sure sign of panic and defeat.  An administration that is sure of its policies and feels competent in doing the right thing welcomes criticism and suggestion and is open to public discussion.  A frightened administration that knows it is not fulfilling its promises and is disappointing millions of supporters, lashes out just as Gibbs did—defensive and unphased, rigidly resistant to changing course.

One thing we know for sure, though.  The criticism is at least being heard.  The lashing out is in itself an acknowledgement, and an admission of sorts.

Too bad—but very revealing.

The shameful thing is that Obama gave the nod for Gibbs statements.  Obama is a disappointment.  He turned on so many good people in his administration, and threw them to the wolves.  Then it was Sherrod.  Now it’s the left.  What is with his lack of backbone?

You go Cindy!

It must be obvious, even to the most die hard democrat, that the Obama administration is a failure on multiple levels. When an administration figure ( Gibbs) turns on the very folks who worked hardest for his boss’ election and is not immediately rebuked for a stupid statement like this one then there can be no doubt as to Obama’s real position in our political spectrum; right of those who elected him certainly and has his back turned to progressive voters and their ( our) needs..

It gives me no pleasure to have voted for Nader because our nation is hurting and it must be saved, thus it would be petty to gloat over having been aware of the phoniness of Obama early on. Those who did vote for him must think long and hard about their own political views and what actions they now will take given that voting either major party is to get the same result.

Oh, and one more thing..Mr. Gibbs, I never did like the music you and your brothers recorded….wink
