Christie Calls Obama After Election, Sends Romney an Email

Gov. Chris Christie.

In the hierarchy of human communication, a call is definitely worth more than an email. That’s why it’s telling that following President Barack Obama’s re-election victory on Tuesday night, New Jersey GOP Gov. Chris Christie called Obama to congratulate him while sending Mitt Romney merely a conciliatory email.

“We didn’t have a political strategy discussion,” Christie said. “I said, ‘Congratulations on your win last night, Mr. President,’ and he said, ‘Thank you.’ ”

Asked if he had called Romney yet, Christie responded, “No, we exchanged emails last night. We haven’t spoken on the phone yet.”

This will surely play out well with Republicans.

Christie, who was a top Romney supporter throughout the presidential campaign, is already being blamed by some in the GOP for the election loss because he had the audacity to publicly praise Obama’s handling of Hurricane Sandy. The governor has rejected such criticism, saying his actions were not politically motivated.

Regardless, conservatives desperate to scapegoat someone for Romney’s loss will see it as Christie cozying up to Obama and dissing Romney—confirmation of their “Chris Christie’s to blame” narrative.
