Christian Militia Group Members Charged With Conspiracy

Posted on Mar 29, 2010

Soldiers of fortune: Members of the Hutaree run with guns in this image from the militia group’s website.

Nine members of the Hutaree, a Christian militia group based in the Midwest, were charged Monday with conspiracy after allegedly planning to kill a law enforcement officer in Michigan and then attack others at their initial target’s funeral using improvised explosive devices, or IEDs.  —KA

The group says on its Web site that Hutaree means “Christian warrior” and proclaims on its home page, “Preparing for the end time battles to keep the testimony of Jesus Christ alive.”

In the Web site’s “About Us” section, the group says, “We believe that one day, as prophecy says, there will be an Anti-Christ. All Christians must know this and prepare, just as Christ commanded.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center, an Alabama-based nonprofit organization that monitors hate groups and other fringe organizations, lists the Hutaree as a “Patriot” group militia.

@ rfidler:

Yes, I’ve read it rfidler, and I must admit that I’m truly touched. It almost brought a tear to my one good eye; for its myopic view.

Of course we both know that what poor Artful Dodger hasn’t realized yet is that your depiction of my life is nothing more than conservative delusion. Conservatism is such a failed ideology that the only way conservatives can be present it as anything but the complete and utter failure that it is—is to paint the opposition surrealistically -the truth be damned. Like the boogey man, the straw man simply doesn’t exist. That’s why it’s not the Jeesus whacko warriors that give “conservatism” a bad name; it’s conservatism as a failed ideology that is a bad name. “Conservatism” is a vulgar word as well as a vulgar ideology.

John Stuart Mill said it best:

” Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives.”

Conservatism, corporatism, autocratic rule (be it by a monarch or a ruling elitist class), etc., are the things colonial Americans fought against. If this were 1776 you’d be dressed in a bright red uniform with big chicken hawk feathers sticking out of your ridiculous hat and I’d be the officer of some ragtag colonial warrior combat team using you for target practice and sticking your big stogie in a part of your anatomy where the sun never shines.

Conservatism is not about free markets or freedom or liberty. Conservatism is all about keeping people like you stupid and maintaining the status quo of oppressors. That’s why we see jeebus’ conservative, Reich-wing whacko warriors practicing woodland warfare when urban warfare is in the cards, believing that mythology is truth, and that their fictional deity, Jeebus, was a republican. Stupidity and conservatism are synonymous.

Hello rfidler:

I have had to live as poor person in the past. So I know this in my bones. Government for which we are taxed ostensibly to protect us, does not do so. We have weak unions but stronger safety nets. We have a very open border, but very few open positions for US citizens. We have tax dollars to subsidize the export of industry. We have onerous taxes on small business to support these international behemoths(corporations). Our tax laws make a mockery of privacy, the right to remain silent, and the right to not be a witness against oneself. And yet in the beginning of the IRS, most people who worked believed that their money wages earned through hard labor would remain untouched. It is a terrible evil that workers pay the same taxes on their sweat as a stock jobber would on a quick killing. The system encourages us to be institutionalized in someway whether it be through psychiatry, criminal justice, banking records or education. We are filed, stamped. collated, and databased from the time of our birth to the time of our death. We are milked harder than any medieval serf. The productive are inaninated to the benefit of idle rentiers. Thank you rfidler. You make good sense.

I know that many must depend on the government for food and shelter, but you should admit when someone else pays your tab, your life is not your own. You remain subject to a social worker or bureaucrat, who can demand certain things from you in order for you to remain on the dole. I am sure many people have been saved from starvation from government transfer payments. It is also true that many have had to do things against their will in order to continue benefits. I think of forced sterilizations, vaccines, cancer treatments, and drug use(SSRI’s, ADHD meds, etc.) Sure you can redistribute wealth from the rich, but they are still going to ask you, “Who’s your daddy?” What good is it to eat the rich, if you have some social worker who directs your life? I think the best welfare program is one that allows domestic industry, mining and farming to prosper. I would not like to see welfare abolished, but I would like to see it possible to make it more rare.

Who/whom. Potato/potahto.

The evidence for your status as a tit-sucker is in the desperate complaining you do about how the government isn’t doing enough to make the rich share their wealth with you. If you were someone who stood on his own two feet, you wouldn’t give one God damn how much the head of AIG or Citibank made. I know I don’t care. It’s no skin off my butt.

But you see your well-being as directly tied to how much the government will give you, which directly depends on how much it can squeeze from the wealthy, which is why you hate wealth in the hands of anyone but you.

Only someone like you would politicize the enjoyment of a fine cigar. And next time the government recharges your welfare card, spring for the Lagavulin. You won’t regret it. I’d be happy to think that my taxes had something to do with helping you enjoy that little bit of bliss.

You’re 65 and post like a teenager. And aren’t you a little old to be hiding behind a stupid moniker like “nemesis”? Grow the fuck up.

Besides, this post is about right-wing wacko Christian militias. I despise them. They give conservatism a bad name.

@ rfidler:
Wrong again hotshot! I might have to start charging you for these lessons. No one knows for sure the motive behind the title. There are several speculations; The Iron Heel, Napoleon of Nottingham Hill, a poem by his first wife, and even the date of the founding of the Fabians. His motives for the title are irrelevant; what’s important is that you read something more than RNC talking points.

The Lagavulin sounds really nice, how much of your money will it cost me? I might have to wait until Obama raises your taxes and gives all of us tit suckers a nice, hefty and well deserved raise before I can try it. As for the big fat stogie in the mouth –I’ll have to pass. Not only do I not smoke but given the Republican record—especially in public heads—I believe that those big, fat, juicy, stogies filling your mouths have sexual connotations that simply don’t agree with my heterosexuality.

How do you define capitalist? Personally I don’t have anything against a free market but I damn sure do not like playing against a stacked deck.

Funny you should mention Hamas. Do you know that Hamas won the Palestinian elections after the CONSERVATIVE Bush/Cheney administration—pompous asses that they were—insisted that Hamas be allowed to participate in them? Yes, those arrogant neo-conservatives who think they know everything insisted that Israel allow Hamas to participate believing that there wasn’t a snowball’s chance that they’d win. Guess what? Like everything else about that CONSERVATIVE administration they were wrong!

Yes, I am 10. That would be 10 x 6.5.

Have you any evidence to back that false claim: ”socialist government welfare tit sucker whom I am subsidizing and you will deny it til the cows come home, you lazy coward.”? We both know that you don’t but that it also doesn’t matter because Reich-wingers never let a little thing like truth get in the way of their stupidity. And it’s “who” not “whom.” The rule is a simple one; use a nominative pronoun, like I or he or she, and if it works stick with who.

I looked up non sequitur as you suggested and I urge you to reconsider because those militiamen are Christian warriors and everyone knows that those wild and crazy guys are right-winger Christian CONSERVATIVES! As for your “serious conservative politics” –conservatism is crap. Conservatism is anti-American! As for American conservatives—especially neo-conservatives—there is no political entity in the history of this nation that has been more of a complete and utter failure.

That last paragraph hit me hard. You are correct except for one thing. You’re confused about which of us is free. You are the one living under yo massa’s yoke. Yo massa providing for all my basic needs with your money assures that I get to live free and that you have to work to support me because if you don’t yo massa will throw your conservative ass into one of his institutions to have your attitude adjusted. Life is really good knowing that I have free internet service and books at the local library, medical care, food at ye olde soup kitchen, checks to buy those things that I want but aren’t directly provided in the form of some government service and to top it all off –a buggy to haul all my worldly possessions in. So who is really free?

“It’s believed that it was from this book that George Orwell got the title for “1984.”” He got the title of the book based on the year he wrote the book- 1948: He inverted the last two digits. End of story. No Jack London connection necessary.

12 Year old Scotch is for wannabes. Try an 18 yr old Lagavulin, if you can afford it. Have it with a nice Cuban Punch Punch cigar. The experience will turn you into a capitalist in a heartbeat.

“Why do you think the U.S. Marine Corps started training Marines in urban warfare techniques more than 20 years ago?”

Oh, I don’t know. Maybe it’s because that’s where all the bad guys hide, behind their women’s skirts, a la Hamas, etc.

The reference to 5th grade- You ARE ten!

A bunch of fat pasty faced yahoo Rambo wannabes running around in the woods says absolutely nothing about serious conservative politics. Look up “non sequitur”.

You don’t need circumstantial evidence that I am right wing. How about direct evidence- I AM right wing. And I don’t hide from it. You’re a socialist government welfare tit sucker whom I am subsidizing and you will deny it til the cows come home, you lazy coward.

For you to say that I have a “massa” is truly laughable. I am a free man. I go where I want, when I want. I buy what I want. Life is good. You on the other hand are totally at the mercy of the federal government? They write your welfare checks. They provide you free medical care. They feed you at the soup kitchen. They provide your shelter. They look the other way as you push your miserable grocery cart with all your worldly possessions down the street. They let you use the library computer to post your stupid posts. You suh, is undah da foot of da massa and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

Yes I am right, and not just about Iraq but AmeriCorp and the oppressing of the majority by the super-wealthy elitists also. You simply need to stop licking your massa’s boots and take a look around. Try switching from the kool-aid to a single-malt, 12 year or older, Scotch whiskey.

You’re half right on brevity. It does serve wit but it does not always serve making valid points. It requires much more energy to expose and eradicate deception than it does to propagate it.

Your defining a less than 400 word commentary—which included a definition for a word you simply do not understand—as bloviating provides us with more circumstantial evidence that you are ideologically right-winged. There’s a reason your Republican overlords prefer to have you licking their boots rather reading a book or seeking a higher than 5th grade education.

Here’s an example for you of just how ignorant the right is; have you noticed that all the videos show the mostly overweight and middle-aged would be Jeebus revolutionaries training in woodlands? Since AmeriCorp is mostly urbanized how much woodland fighting do you think will be going on? Why do you think the U.S. Marine Corps started training Marines in urban warfare techniques more than 20 years ago?

I would like to recommend a book to you; it’s available free, on line. The book is Jack London’s “The Iron Heel.” It’s believed that it was from this book that George Orwell got the title for “1984.” Try reading it even if you need to look up all the big words in a dictionary. I think you’ll find it more apropos than Orwell’s “1984.”

(Up to the end of the previous paragraph you have read only 277 words. That can hardly be called bloviating. Fathead O’Reilly much?)

You’re right, I forgot to add pre-liberation Iraq to my list with Cuba and the PRK. The “oppressed majority” of your argument refers, I’m sure, to the citizens of the US, in which case, oxymoron.

“Knowledgeable Republican.” How old are you, ten?

And you do not need to lecture me about constructing an argument.

If I may drag up and modify an old cliche: Brevity is the soul of wit. It is also the soul of powerful point-making. Your bloviations glaze the eyes.

@ rfidler:

Not only have you failed to learn the meaning of “agenda” you have also demonstrated that you don’t understand the word “oxymoron” either. Okay, per your request. An oxymoron is “a rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined.”

Here’s an example: “The knowledgeable Republican.” The two words—knowledgeable and Republican—are contradictory because to be a Republican means that one is not knowledgeable. In other words “knowledge” and “being a Republican” are not harmonious; they are incongruous and contradict one another. Here’s another one: “The affable Dick Cheney.” The word “affable” and the evil, unholy spirit of the Republican triune godhead, “Dick Cheney,” contradict and are definitely not congruous, thus, it’s an oxymoron.

My statement about the super-wealthy having to be reminded of the oppressed majority’s distaste for their authoritarian rule is not an “agenda;” it’s simply a statement of fact. For it to be an agenda it would have to be part of a list or a program of things to do. You failed.

Your making the idiotic statement that “If the super-wealthy really did rule, BHO would not be in the White House” doesn’t make it true. There are many logic fallacies in your erroneous construct. On what do you base this asinine assumption?

I argue that the term “oppressed majority” is not an oxymoron because there is nothing necessarily incongruous or contradictory about the term. You even provided two exceptions, defeating your own position. (Please refer to the oxymoron “knowledgeable republican” above.) There are innumerable examples of oppressed majorities throughout nature. Rather than get your panties all tied in a knot you should first consider how that majority is being oppressed, to what degree, and by whom.

Remember Saddam Hussein? If you do then you should recall that not only were all the people oppressed by his rule but there was also an oppression of the Shi’a majority by the combined non-religious and Sunni minority. I reiterate, there is no inherent contradiction or incongruity in the term “oppressed majority.”

Here in the U.S. there is a very exclusive minority that controls all things financial and oppresses the majority by rigging the game in their favor. That’s financial oppression and it’s just one of a host of available examples of a small, super-wealthy elite controlling and oppressing the majority through many venues available to them because of their control over vast amounts of wealth. There are all sorts of oppression by the super-wealthy elitist class over the majority. Your problem is that being a right-winger you possess a “yassa massa” mentality and when one is on bended knee, obediently licking his massa’s boots, one cannot see what is going on around him.

As for your progressive bullshit agenda:

“Unfortunately for Homo sapiens the super-wealthy and powerful have to be reminded of the oppressed majority’s distaste for their authoritarian rule every few generations.”

If the super-wealthy really did rule, BHO would not be in the White House. And by the way, “oppressed majority” is an oxymoron, unless you live in Cuba or North Korea.

You can make oxymoron your new word for tomorrow. (Hint: It has nothing to do with moron.)

What, pray tell, progressive bullshit agenda would that be?

agenda (e-jèn´de) noun
plural agendas
1. A list or program of things to be done or considered: “They share with them an agenda beyond the immediate goal of democratization of the electoral process” (Daniel Sneider).
2. A plural of AGENDUM.

That screed was a joke, wasn’t it? You cannot be serious? The Jesus in that book of mythology never existed. That makes whatever position you have erroneous because of it being based on a false foundation. In the vernacular of your N.T.; you’ve built your house on sinking sand!

There is nothing unusual or particular in what we see happening in society today. It’s what always happens whenever increasing segments of a society find themselves part of the oppressed majority. In Western society we enjoy a history of pushing back against ever increasing totalitarianism.

This isn’t about Jesus and the Second Advent or demons or evil spirits or anti-Christs, etc. It’s not even about the much feared and ballyhooed “THE ANTICHRIST” who doesn’t even exist in your book of mythology but rather only in the mind of fearful and completely ignorant of their bible Christians.

The turmoil we see today is about the nature of Homo sapien societies to trend toward authoritarian rule. It is about the tendency of many Homo sapien societies—especially more enlightened Western societies—to push back against that authoritarian rule. Unfortunately for Homo sapiens the super-wealthy and powerful have to be reminded of the oppressed majority’s distaste for their authoritarian rule every few generations.

There is no god, the Jesus of the bible never existed, and the bible is a compilation of many different and conflicting Bronze and Iron Age mythologies mixed with first century adaptations. Using mythology as an explanation for what ails us only worsens the situation.

I propose balance in the way religious extremists are treated by polotical extremists.

Right wing wackos should call for the killing of all Muslims who don’t explicitly denounce Islamic terrorism.

Left wing wackos should call for the killing of all Christians who don’t explicitly denounce Christian militias.

There’d be a lot fewer wackos in the world and we could all get back to worrying about Tiger Woods.

If I were an administrator in a high school district anywhere in the US today I would install courses for both boys and girls in Alternatives to Violence that train them in techniqes to avoid violent confrontation, and also in techniques of passive resistance to the use of force when confronted, not only to protect themselves but to give them self-confidence in their ability to protect themselves when necessary.
I believe most students would prefer this kind of training over learning about the use of guns because it requires more skill and artistry, more self-control and self-respect, and contains more philosophical content.  Primarily, it relies on training people how to use an attacker’s force against the attacker. It is not aimed at killing, though it can be used for that purpose if necessary.
The militia phenomenon has a peculiar appeal to some Americans who fancy that it represents the freedom and self-determination of the early American independence movement, or the violence of the frontier days. For some it’s a replay of the frustrations of the Civil War. Actually it represents more of the street-gang offensiveness of taking advantage of weaker armed or unarmed people primarily by the use of shock, fear, and aggresive attack.
The rise in the popularity of such gun-toting groups indicates fear and lack of self-confidence and a feeling that their personal lives and futures are beyond their ability to control.  They are dangerous primarily because they are motivated by desperation
Arrest and judicial punishment is probably not the best way to control them because they have little respect for law in the first place, and capturt inspires in them more fear, desperation,  more justification and a persecution complex.
Please understand I don’t object to the conspiracy charges, if proven beyond a reasonable doubt.  It’s just that I think jail time etc. is probably counterpruductive.

the #1 enemy of the “system” of lying and deception in the USA is indeed the Lord Jesus Christ: however, it is SPIRITUAL BATTLE folks: using the WEAPONS of our warfare that are not carnal;
The END TIME plan is NOT for “global dominion” nor even whatever line these folks of lying and deception have STATED. Yes, they are indeed carrying out THAT plan but as that which has been done in SECRET SHALL BE REVEALED:
the REAL end time plan they have planned out for man kind is to eliminate 80 percent of the population of the world; living in what they claim is “indestructible” : remember the Titanic?
THAT of course, would eliminate the criminals and crooks: the bankers, the Corps, the judges, Wall St, universities, Army Corp of engineers, most of the Pentagon, mercenaries, corrupt cops etc; so: to die for Christians is to be instantly with the Lord. Why should WE care what happens to those who have deliberately & intentionally harmed us?
The LOVE OF CHRIST: who came to earth, died on the Cross; He who KNEW no sin was made to BE sin; and took away the SIN of the WORLD. The FATHER is NO LONGER HOLDING the SIN OF THE WORLD against them, hoping instead to reconcile ALL to Him again thru the completed work of the Cross.
He is the WAY, to the FATHER: none can come to the FATHER except BY ME. He is our HIGH PRIEST. He is SPIRIT. WE are spirit & by being born again we become “sons” of God; not THE Son but A son.
HEAR what the FATHER told me: son’s of men, son’s of men, the blood, the blood, the blood of MY SON ever liveth making intercession for thee, sons of men.
Sons of men, sons of men: the blood the blood the blood of My Son: OPENED HEAVENS DOOR for EVERYONE.
I do not care what has been stated by others; NONE is GREATER than the FATHER. ACCEPT THIS WORD from HIM: and get into the WORD of GOD and RENEW your MINDS! You MUST sit under TEACHING of someone who KNOWS and UNDERSTANDS the WORD! not like my neighbor who taught Sunday School for years & has never even READ the BIBLE all the way THROUGH! C’on people! HE CANNOT RETURN until THE CHURCH is GLORIOUS!
In the book of Daniel it TELLS of an end time effort to do exactly what is being done today. It states they will be CUT OFF WITHOUT HANDS!
Lift your EYES unto the MOUNTAINS from which cometh your help; your help COMETH from the LORD GOD who CREATED the heavens & earth.
Just as MAN is a SPIRIT with a physical body: so are the MOUNTAINS! they are in fact, FULL OF ANGELS; trillions of them. GO to the BOOK and find out how large Goliath was: and his brothers to get an estimate of SIZE. THEN Wall St: why not start making BETS on how FEW perhaps the SIZE of PIKES PEAK only: it’s going to take to simply JUMP as they did on the Walls of Jericho to totally & completely DESTROY not only the WALLS of SOLID ROCK which were what? a mile thick? and they HELPED in the destruction of that entire huge city: full of “technology”: EXCEPT for ONE: Rahab, who BELIEVED what she had HEARD of the GOD of the ISREALITES; and was REWARDED by gathering her family & putting a RED SASH (symbol of the BLOOD) outside her window.
THIS is why HIS NAME is THE LORD OF HOSTS! the ANGELS are there to HELP us the PEOPLE; THIS is why we are to TRUST in the LORD with all of our HEARTS and lean NOT unto our own understanding.
For THIS PURPOSE was the Son of God MANIFASTED: to DESTROY the works of the enemy.
EVERYTHING that is NOT OF HIM folks: is going to be shaken VIGOROUSLY.
There is NONE GREATER than the FATHER!
ONCE everyone REALIZES that all their “gain” has been for NAUGHT! and that THEY are not to be “included” in the 20 percent left on earth: I think they will EASILY and READILY be willing to REPENT: which is to TURN and walk in the path of righteousness.
DO not DIE without FAITH in HIS BLOOD and what He accomplished on the CROSS!
HOWEVER: never forget that the BATTLE is the LORD’s: and HE has PROMISED to REPAY: Vengence is MINE sayeth the LORD.
