China Jails Dissident for Poem Sent Over Internet

Chinese authorities demonstrated their continued disregard for free speech and human rights as they sentenced a democratic dissident to seven years in jail for sending a poem he had written and other messages over the Internet, the man’s son told reporters. The verdict cited Zhu Yufu’s online calls for a democratic political movement, the son said. —ARK

The Guardian:

Zhu Yufu was jailed for “inciting subversion of state power” by a court in Hangzhou, eastern China, after a trial hearing on 31 January when prosecutors cited a poem and messages he had sent on the internet, his son Zhu Ang told Reuters.

The poem said: “It’s time, Chinese people! It’s time. The Square belongs to all.” References to a “square” might evoke memories among many Chinese people of Tiananmen Square in Beijing, though the poem did not mention it or the 1989 pro-democracy protests.

Prosecutors also cited text messages that he sent using Skype. There was no suggestion that the online chat service helped police to collect evidence.

tic,

Pat___ injecting” Israel sucks” and “you’re a Zionist” into every thread not really
about Israel IS’T intelligent discussion, it’s puerile crap.

You are incorrectly and falsely crediting me for stating such.  Hint….. when you use quotation marks it helps when that person actually said or in this case wrote it.

There is no limit to the depth of your ignorance in attempting to decieve.

Revere Paul, nice to see Fenqiing posting here. You do
realize that China’s universal health care system is
even more of a joke than the US’s, right?

China builds maglev trains, while people are literally
dying from Cholera. What kind of people’s system is
that? China’s universal healthcare doesn’t even pay for
half of specialist care. And then you link to
PrisonPlanet - and you Chinese Ultra-Nationalists have
the gal to complain about biased reporting on China!
For Shame!

PatrickHimmler,

Again.  It matters not the subject or region of the globe.  Israel and the Juden is the only topics you go on about.

Yes, I see you, Heinrich.  If you believed you had something intelligent to say about dissidents in China you would have quickly leaped at the chance.

I see you, Heinrich.  You meet the very definition of a “troll”.  Unfailingly off-topic.

minimax,

You asked the off topic question as stupid as it was.

China is the recipient of much of the U.S. technology that Israel steals.

Ask Johathan Pollard.

The chinese have their own set laws in place all subjective to a magistrates whims, much like in the US.  At least this poet isn’t a Palestinian so he has a chance of freedom.

So march your big fat Kapo ass back to the cubicle next to your fellow rube spammatic and try again.

PatrickHimmler, - “I see the zionist bookends’ - ‘the United States is subservient to Israels foreign policy”

-

So the NDAA is likely a nasty Juden erfindung now adopted by China.  I’d be willing to bet you could recite every detail of “The Final Solution”.  Correct, PHeinrich?

Do you have anything to say, intelligent or otherwise, on the topic here?  The topic of China?

I see the zionist bookends have gotten an early start to spamming their nonsense this morning.

minimax,  although it is irrelevant to this article the foreign policy of the United States is subservient to Israels foreign policy and has increased since LBJ, the average American suffers from this arrangement since it affects our travel to the other nations of the world and how they percieve ‘Americans’.

Most Americans could give a fig about Israel and are unaware of the amount of tax money given to that country while it steals our military and industrial secrets and sells them to potential adversaries.

http://www.theinsider.org/news/article.asp?id=776

Israels dealings with China are the same as with South Africa, the world boycotted the apartheid nation and the Issies sold them nuclear weapon technology.

Poem for Zhu Yufu

“There were no students that day

Killed in the square.

Only the heroes - Peoples Army soldiers

Torn limb from limb - by the mob.

I saw it happen.

What sentiments, Zhu

Inform your lies”.

At least it scans but it’s still propaganda and misinformation-unless it’s satire. You can always pick the Fascists: they lock up poets and actors and those who tell the truth. Julian Assange, for example. Stalin had a long war against poets and musicians and since they were unarmed, and he had the power of the state behind him he always won. China is in the habit of using a cannon to shoot a sparrow and this is just another example of their wrong-headed overkill.

How many of you idiots have actually been to China?

it really hurts to say this, but China is actually much more free than the US or Europe at the moment.

I know, I know…  I can hear the howling already, but is that the propaganda speaking or your actual experience in China?

Try it…  go to China, find a (decent) job in 1 single day!  Live affordably with great (free) health care, etc…

You can say anything there except call for the murder of political leaders or insurrection, etc… much different that in the US and all its lackeys!

This is not to say there are not problems in China, there are, and the government welcomes discussion and even criticism as it may lead to positives, to solutions, collectively discussed and arrived at, what a collectivist shame!  Imagine that: People, not money gouging corporation actually making decisions, wow!

Compare that to ameriKa where if you disagree with the gov’t you are considered mentally ill and a potential terrorist!

http://www.prisonplanet.com/distrusting-government-characterized-as-mental-illness-by-apa.html

Grow a brain for a change and start really knowing what you’re talking about.

Then, do what needs to be done.

Ponder this quote by Thomas Jefferson: “When the People Fear Government there is Tyranny…. When the Government Fears the People there is LIBERTY”

As applies to China and uSSa, ask yourself, where is the government more afraid of its people and where are people more afraid of the government?

See what I mean?

if chinese present leadership is building a better life for ALL CHINESE
then it has to protect it.
the chinese dissenters, i expect, are much like solzhenitsin and
scharanski had been in ussr.
as an ultra egalitarian, i, too, would have warned them to desist; and if
they would not, i would have either jailed or exiled scharanski,
solzhenitsin, or any chinese dissident.
all of them work for world’s one percent and communists do not.
yes, throw the enemies of little people to jail.  thanks

YES - China though, home to second highest numbers of world’s jailbirds after United States - has lot to learn from tolerance from the US. For example, in the US, a Jew publisher calls Israeli Mossad to assassinate President Obama for refusing to invade Iran immediately - and no FBI agent knocks on the Jew’s door.

What is it about humans beings, men specifically, that we seem unable to just leave people the hell alone and let them be? What is it in our psyche that makes us want to enslave and control something (Nature even) or someone that is as natural as the wind itself - which is the passion for freedom? It is this distorted attempt to control and bondage that creates havoc and misery. When are we going to learn that trying to suppress the human need for freedom and liberty is like trying to prevent the sun from rising? We never adhere to the lessons of history and failed empires of men, organizations and societies that engage in such a destructive endeavor that always ultimately leads to disaster for all involved. Each tyrant and abusive society that has attempted such a futile effort always crashes and burns bringing down entire cultures. When will we grow up and stop being insecure, infantile babies and allow men and women the freedom with which they were born?

All the Chinese need do when the Administration begins grandstanding on this issue is ask why the U.S., with one quarter of China’s population, has 700,000 more of it citizens in its own Prison Industrial Complex, an overwhelming majority of which are ethnic minorities, than China has in its entire system.  But I guess
that would just be rude.

Anything the “nanny” state doesn’t approve of will be called “subversive.”  This is the true “nanny” state which attempts to squelch all protest and criticism. Will we ever get rid of authoritarianism?
