Catching Up With Gore VidalPosted on Aug 1, 2012
Since 2006, Truthdig has been proud to publish the essays of Gore Vidal. Below are some of his highlights. His major condemnation of President George W. Bush, “President Jonah, Meet Oliver Cromwell!” can be read here or heard in Gore’s own voice here. Gore’s most controversial posting on Truthdig was his 2008 critique of Newsweek for going easy on his old nemesis, William F. Buckley, after the conservative’s death. It is titled appropriately enough “Gore Vidal Speaks Seriously Ill of the Dead.” Gore also wrote about John McCain, impeachment, and “America the Great ... Police State.” Read more Truthdig articles by Gore Vidal here and listen to podcasts here. Below, Gore speaks with Truthdig Editor-in-Chief Robert Scheer about the 2006 election and themes that are, sadly, still relevant today.
