Fidel Castro in more robust, finger-jabbing times.

Cuba’s former President Fidel Castro hasn’t exactly been courting the limelight in recent years, owing to his ailing health and subsequent transfer of power to his brother Raul, but he rallied and made a rare cameo appearance Monday on a Cuban talk show. —KA

BBC:

The 83-year-old appears relaxed and cogent when speaking on the current affairs programme, Mesa Redonda (Round Table), although his voice is weak.

[...] The BBC’s Michael Voss, in the Cuban capital Havana, says Fidel Castro’s sudden return to the limelight may be designed to send a message that he remains part of the decision-making process.

His re-appearance also follows the dramatic announcement last week that Raoul Castro had agreed to free 52 political prisoners.

Q. “Why do the Cuban police operate in groups of three?”
A. “One can read, one can write and one to keep an eye on the two intellectuals.”

Great, an old communist dictator whose latest achievement is the ability to wear Depends.

Castro decides to go out one day and see what it’s really like for the workers, so he puts on a disguise and sneaks out of the Cuban mansion. After a while he wanders into a cinema. When the film has finished, the Cuban Anthem plays and a huge picture of Castro appears on the screen. Everyone stands up and begins singing, except Fidel, who smugly remains seated. A minute later a man behind him leans forwards and whispers in his ear: “Listen Comrade, we all feel exactly the same way you do, but trust me, it’s a lot safer if you just stand up.”

Fidel Castro for decades has provided free university education, and free health care to the people of Cuba, something no U.S. President has ever been able to provide the American people. Also, the Cuban people export medical doctors to the world while the U.S.of A. exports warplanes, bombs, torture, and guns to the world.
