Scott Brown

So this is what he meant when he called himself a “Scott Brown Republican.” Brown, the Senate’s newest member, who upset Martha Coakley last month to win the late Ted Kennedy’s seat, is making an auspicious voting debut by siding with Democrats in support of a jobs bill. That didn’t go over well with some conservatives.  —KA

Examiner.com:

Although Brown pledged during his campaign last month to be an independent, “Scott Brown Republican,” conservatives who threw their support behind the upstart candidate in his defeat of Democrat Martha Coakley reacted with scorn to his vote.
On the Fox News website, commenters reacted to the story of Brown’s vote with a mixture of cynicism and outrage.

This is basically Reagan-nomics.  Give tax cuts to business in the hope that maybe it leads to a few new jobs.  “Trickle-down” is what it used to be called.  Most Americans correctly call it “Trickle-on” economics.

What’s fascinating is that today Ronald Reagan’s ideas are the proposals from the supposedly socialistic Democrats.  And a Republican is criticized for supporting what Reagan would have done.

I understand the Republicans trying to drive the country to the right.  But, to understand current American politics, you have to recognize the Democrats are also driving the country to the right.

And that between the two, we are now well to the right of Reagan and communist-socialist-liberals like Richard Nixon are getting very small in the rear-view mirror.

It’s a dumb bill, a giveaway to business.  Employers get the tax break even if they would have hired someone anyway.  And small changes in the cost of labor have little effect on hiring.  That is why there is little or no job loss when the minimum wage is increased.
