The Catholic Church has made remorseful noises and gestures in response to the widespread allegations of clergy sex abuse coming in from multiple dioceses, and some accused parties have been duly punished in recent months ... or have they? The U.K.’s Channel 4 has followed up on several such cases and has found that justice hasn’t exactly been served as promised.  —KA

Gawker:

Besides the rampant sex abuse by members of the clergy, recommendations made by a judge that offending priests be “laicised,” or dismissed from the priesthood were ignored by the church. Of 22 priests who have served a year or more in jail for child molestation, 14 are still priests and 10 of them appeared in the latest edition of the Catholic Directory.

The pope looks best when he has a 50 foot red cape behind him with an alter boy
carrying its tail. The Catholic Church has symbolized God with some of the
gaudiest artwork. The organ music at a funeral procession lifts me up to spiritual
height.

What an outrage to know that Benny 16’s trip to England is taxpayer funded! Watching him descending at the airport made me wonder how such a cartoonish figure could be revered by anyone in their right mind! Having watched last night’s finals of the “America’s Got Talent” program, I can’t imagine anyone who found Lord Poppycock amusing in his regalia not finding ol’ Benny 16 likewise!

Good article—but I feel a bit uneasy seeing the words “probe” and priest in the
same sentence—maybe it’s just me.
