Boston Mayor to Chick-fil-A: Take a Hike!

You probably won’t see this cow in Boston, Mass., anytime soon.

Tom Menino is choosing gay rights over fast food. Boston’s mayor is aiming to block Chick-fil-A’s attempt to expand to his city because the restaurant chain’s CEO opposes same-sex marriage.

Last week, Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy said he was “guilty as charged,” during an interview in which he was asked about his anti-gay stance.

In a scathing letter to Cathy, Menino wrote, “Your company says you are backing out of the same-sex marriage debate. I urge you to back out of your plans to locate in Boston.”

He added: “You called supporters of gay marriage ‘prideful.’ Here in Boston, to borrow your own words, we are ‘guilty as charged.’ We are mindful of pride for our support for same-sex marriage and our work to expand freedom to all people. We are proud that our state and our city have led the way for the country on equal marriage rights.”

It’s been a pretty bad week for the purveyor of fast food chicken sandwiches: Not only has it been snubbed by Boston, but the company behind “The Muppets” cut its ties to Chick-fil-A because of Cathy’s stance on gay marriage.
