Black Jesus Film Will Make WavesPosted on Jan 20, 2006Reuters: JOHANNESBURG - Billed as the world’s first black Jesus movie, “Son of Man” portrays Christ as a modern African revolutionary and aims to shatter the Western image of a placid savior with fair hair and blue eyes. The South African film, which premieres on Sunday at the U.S. Sundance festival in Utah, transports the life and death of Christ from first century Palestine to a contemporary African state racked by war and poverty. | story Advertisement Previous item: Iraqi Voting Tally Deals Deathblow to Neocon Fantasies Next item: What’s Wrong With This Picture? Certain things have reinforced my system of beliefs over the years (69). There used to be a humour magazine called “Help” in the 50’s, 60’s, much like “Mad” magazine. The centerfold one issue showed Yuri Gagarin still in his soft helmut after he made the first orbit of the Earth and the caption said “And I saw God, She’s colored.” Even to this day I give a salute to the brilliance of the publishers and honour the concept.
