Birth Control Gets a Plan CPosted on Aug 14, 2010
The FDA has approved a new, more effective morning-after pill called ella. The pill, already being used in Europe, can prevent pregnancies for up to five days after intercourse. It’s available only by prescription, unlike the Plan B pill, which is sold over the counter and is effective for three days after the fact. —JCL

Bravo purplewolf and greetings from the hinterlands of Pennsylvania better known as the portion between Pittsburgh and Philly that strngly resembles Alabama. From your brief autobio I see that we share a vocational as well as avocational history as I am a retired civil servant who’s career was focused on the mentally challenged and the elderly. My sincerest best wishes in your on-going health concerns!

Berniem: I just noticed that Milliej30 is unregistered, so I don’t think she will be notified of our comments, darn. And to think of the time I spent and had to retype the whole 1st page over again as it would not post.
Report thisI agree with you however. Guess you can tell I tend to get riled up with those who choose not to see reality(letter length)because their God is still punishing them for eating from the tree of knowledge, which means, he wants them to remain stupid and ignorant of reality and put all of their mental energy into believing hearsay and fairly tales of people surviving 3 days in the stomach acid of a whale and surviving(only if the whale was dead first off) or of talking donkeys and of bears that God ordered to kill(punish) children for making fun of a bald man, and don’t forget the biggy, making women-if they were a virgin first-marry their rapists, can’t forget that one. All of this can be found in the old testament, Millie. And much more, read it for yourself and see what the church doesn’t want you to know.

milliej30:First I started to work for the Red Cross at 16 y.o. in a maternity ward, then after graduating nursing I worked with geriatrics as I felt that the elders are to be respected and not forgotten. This was in the 60’s-80’s and again in the 90’s to retirement.Even back then the elderly were thrown away to be warehoused in too many instances.I have always worked with animals and continue this day to work with animal rescue groups and foster groups and also help out with the forgotten members of society that we call human beings.
Where are all the right to livers when we find the throw away babies? I know plenty of people who protest against abortion and birth control who also want nothing to do with the end product of an unwanted pregnancy. They usually are the first ones to make as to why they do not take these unwanted babies.I have also known a few families who take in unwanted crack babies, abused children and other throw away children.
When I was still a teenager I worked at a free medical clinic for the poor. One of the men there, another volunteer and a former Marine brutally raped me and I am lucky I didn’t get pregnant as abortion was still illegal at that time. No, I didn’t use birth control as I was not sexually active and unmarried and didn’t think I needed it.Things happen,so trying to blame women as irresponsible in maintaining their sexual behavior is often not possible all of the time.Especially when the attacker is much stronger than you are or your life is in danger if you fought back.
As to your animal comment. Many people out there claim to be right to lifers, anti abortion, etc.are some of the biggest animal abusers we all have heard of these days. You have no further to look than Sarah Palin the wolf killer and other animals that get into the way of big oil.I supported wolf restoration in Alaska, even though I live in Michigan, since the 80’s and knew about her blood lust for killing wolves long before the rest of America ever heard her name. There are a lot of political leaders who not only encourage torturing animals, they have held contests and bounties for the killing of these animals barely off of the endangered species lists in their own states,Idaho and Montana are 2 more.In fact,Sarah Palin sued the Dept.of Wildlife in Alaska for not de-listing certain endangered animals so they could be slaughtered.Look on the Internet at Defenders of Wildlife.org and check some of their past posts about this and there are plenty of other organizations which report of these abuses against animals.http://www.care2,com is a good news site where the members submit the articles on a variety of topics most people never even hear of. If you sign up,it’s free, you can even select the topics you are most interested in.Also look at the site:For The Love of The Dog Blog, which is a heart wrenching site if you cry easily,it is brutally honest and factual as to the abuse our four leggeds suffer at the hand of man.You would be shocked at how much animal abuse is out there.
Many people I know who profess to be Christian claim that it is okay to hurt, abuse, neglect and ignore the pain and suffering of animals and they justify t by stating that their God didn’t give animals souls,so therefore it doesn’t matter what you do to them.I know too many people who have said this.I actually know more animals that have souls than people who claim animals don’t.More often than not,it is an animal that will risk its life without thinking of the danger it puts itself into to save their human companions.Don’t claim that animals don’t have brains to think, they do,otherwise they could never be trained to save lives or help the disabled as helper dogs.Rescue dogs are a good example of this, whereas people like to weigh the outcome of saving someone and many even feel God will punish them in certain instances for doing the right thing if that right thing happens to fall on a sabbath day.

milliej30 cont.page 2:
As to the comment about Christians who say they don’t want people of different origins or beliefs to die or disappear. What do you think happened to the Aztecs? They were killed using the name of Christianity because of a lack of knowing the language spoken and same religious beliefs of Cortez and his invading armies. So as a punishment those people were taught a lesson that ended in their deaths. What about all the children taken into the Carisle schools and assimilated into the Christian ways? Too many indigenous people around the world are and were killed in the name of organized religions invading countries other than where they came from.American Indians were still put to death in America as late as 1978’s for practicing their religious teaching, which were not Christian, especially the Sun Dance if they were caught. This land was stolen by breaking a majority of the ten commandments of Moses quest in the desert. But, then again, you were taught that if you repented afterwards, you were forgiven, even though people are dead.
I have studied theology in college and different religions around the world along with veterinary medicine. In the eyes of the Christians, I am considered a pagan or a heathen, simply because I try to live each day with respect the gifts given to the human races of the world that we need to survive, take what I only need, live in harmony with nature and the earth and its living creatures be it human, animal or plants and leave the earth a better place when I am done, and for that I am condemned by those who think they are superior to me because of their religious views.
I do not feel I am on a high horse and in my 57+ years walking Mother Earth, I have probably met more people on a longer and more in depth basis working in the medical field, law enforcement, education, sales and several other areas than you probably have.
I have met people, real people, from many different races, places in the world and beliefs and careers through out the years and though I don’t get out as much as I would like due to medical conditions. However,I still keep watch and help the elders in my neighborhood and see to it they have enough food, heat etc..,work as a crime watch volunteer, make and donate things to charities to benefit people and animals, drive those who cannot to dr. appts. grocery shopping or other errands they cannot do and also take what is needed to the shut-ins who cannot get out at all. There are many days I am unable to get around my own house due to medical complications,so I find other ways to help my fellow humans on this journey called life by making phone calls for them, cooking or sewing for them, reading to them, tending their animals if needed and just listening to them when they need someone to unload on.I also have a disease(PNH)which fits under the orphan disease category according to N.O.R.D.,there are about 7,000 people out of all the people on the earth with this condition, however,in me,it is doing something that the doctors have never seen on anyone else on the planet, according to the experts I have been sent to.So I am currently a research subject for this experimental medication and am being monitored by the company that makes this medication as well as the FDA. The research they are learning from me may help others out in the future,I know right now that I can not go past 16 days without treatment, then I am told my blood cells will explode and I will not survive that. This is a true fact and not some made up story nor am I seeking sympathy. It’s just a fact. So even if I don’t get the chance to get out and do as much for others as I did when I was in better shape,I still am trying in my own way to help other. What have you done lately for your fellow lifeforms on this planet called Earth?

Forgive me millej30! I stand chastened by your obviously superior world view and virtue as compared to the rest of your or anyone else’s generation! Oh, and spare me your christian, pro-life crap. Did I fail to notice your outrage for the oh, soooo… pro-life wars currently being waged by this pinnacle of christian and pro-life nations! I’ll agree that marriage often does not lead to “unplanned newborn orphans”; but if that wonderful family of 19 kids celebrated recently by that right-wing family values cabal is any indication, there are alot of people in this land of everything good and wholesome, married or not, who may benefit from a bit of education themselves! I’m sorry to tell you this but if you spent more of your time actually viewing the world as it is rather than how some parasitic padre wants you to see it or how its portrayed in an archaic book of myths, threats, and superstition you may find that you can accomplish more than praying for something that will never come from an entity that doesn’t exist!

berniem and purplewolf:
do you even know anyone who actually is a “right-to-lifer” as you say?
i am pro-life. i am a Christian. i think having a “plan c” birth control is a stupid idea that only contributes to the carelessness and lack of responsibility so prevalent among members of my generation. it’s dangerous to our society because it creates a false sense of security.
BUT. your comments are incredibly offensive and ridiculous. in fact i registered specifically to address them. i am one of those “right-to-lifers” who believes that people, particularly teens, need to be educated about how the world works, including sex and all of its consequences.
and, by the way, if sex is reserved for marriage, you don’t end up with too many unplanned newborn orphans. just sayin’.
as for your comments about reducing the animal population: i don’t know ONE SINGLE PERSON who isn’t opposed to animal abuse or torture. NOT ONE. your comments show not the ignorance of the “right-to-lifers” but of yourself.
and i can speak for any Bible-believing Christian when i say that we don’t want people who are different from us to die or disappear or whatever it is you think we believe. we know that we’re meant to live among those who think differently. will we fight for our beliefs? hell yes. but everyone should be willing to. if you don’t believe something strongly enough to fight for it (justly) then what do you really have? the point is not to eliminate other views.
get off your high-horse and get outside. go meet people. real people. not just your utterly stupid ideas of what other people are like. my word!!!

Berniem: None of those right-to-lifers are willing to adopt or take on all of these unwanted and excessive humans. Now when it comes to reducing the animal population, like cats, dogs, wolves and any other form of “lower” life that they feel invades the space excessive humans might want, these same freaks that bellow how sacred life is, have no problem with gassing, drowning, torturing or finding other ways to dispose of excessive life they feel has no right to live.
These people make me sick to value, will supposedly, all life when in fact they don’t. It is only a select few that they want and as for other life forms including certain races or religions of people, they seem to have no problem in eliminating them in wars now do they? Hypocrisy at it peak.

The “overpopulation,no problem” crowd will be howling for sure now! Why, we all know how sacred life is and if a few million starve or whatever from too many people in too many inhospitable places or in the way of the grinding wheels of “progress” then it must bedue to their poor choices and failure to take “personal responsibility” for their lives, and so on, ad nauseum….Don’t dare mention, however, that belief in antiquated dogma, misogyny, and restricted access to education are a big contributor to the world’s population explosion. I wonder how many of those right-to-lifers are willing to adopt all those unplanned newborns?
