Bin Laden Thought About Re-Branding Al-Qaida

Posted on Jun 24, 2011

A letter found in Osama bin Laden’s Pakistan compound details his concerns about the name al-Qaida and the organization’s ability to galvanize Muslims with a shorthand moniker that just means “the base” (originally it was “the base of holy war”). It is unknown to whom bin Laden’s public relations missive was directed.

According to The Associated Press, he came up with some real clunkers to replace al-Qaida, at least judging by their English translations.

AP via Google:

Maybe something like Taifat al-Tawhed Wal-Jihad, meaning Monotheism and Jihad Group, would do the trick, he wrote. Or Jama’at I’Adat al-Khilafat al-Rashida, meaning Restoration of the Caliphate Group.

As bin Laden saw it, the problem was that the group’s full name, al-Qaida al-Jihad, for The Base of Holy War, had become short-handed as simply al-Qaida. Lopping off the word “jihad,” bin Laden wrote, allowed the West to “claim deceptively that they are not at war with Islam.” Maybe it was time for al-Qaida to bring back its original name.

Why are you printing propaganda pieces from the Pentagon and the neo-con
mouthpiece ASsociated Press?

Ridiculous.  If I wanted this kind of fake “news” I sure as hell wouldn’t come here, I
could just go to yahoo news or CNN or the other Propaganda sites.

Dr B:

You are one of the more prominent and prolific posters here on truthdig.

“Osama bin Laden died 19 Dec 2001…”

Unfortunately, your depth and regard for the truth pretty much represents the typical truthdig poster.

The “Barack Hussein bin Obama” continuation of Bush propaganda goes on
and on.  As long as Americans accept it, it will continue. Naturally,
shills are paid to continue to puke it out.

Osama bin Laden died 19 Dec 2001 of renal failure.  It isnĀ“t logical
that his clan would have revealed his secretive burial site to the
CIA, in order to dig up his corpse and place in a chair, in preparation for the fraudulent S.E.A.L. attack on “his dwelling.”  The entire scene was an insult to the heretofore integrity of the U.S.NAVY S.E.A.L.

That which the drug-thirsty GHWBushJr did not screw over, has been
more than adequately tarnished by the fraudulent occupant of the
POTUS, “Barack Hussein bin Obama.”
