Bigotry Catapults Willow Palin Into the Spotlight

Posted on Nov 17, 2010
AP / Eric Jamison

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, with daughter Willow holding the then-Alaska governor’s son Trig, campaigns at an October 2008 rally in Henderson, Nev.

And then the next thing you know, another Palin pops out of the woodwork. This time, it’s 16-year-old Willow Palin’s turn to frolic in her own notoriety, but hers is not a shining moment to make her mama grizzly proud—or at least let’s hope not.

The drama unfolded, naturally, within the sacred space of meaningful communication and interpersonal exploration known as Facebook, where Willow spoke up for her mom after a schoolmate offered his rather unsupportive critique of her new TV reality show, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.” All right, fine, but the manner in which Willow attempted to shut him down was the problem, as she let fly with a couple depressingly common homophobic slurs. This was not an effective object lesson in conflict management and tolerance.

But then, on Wednesday, a group of gay GOPers known as GOProud stepped in to address the controversy. Surely, one would imagine, they’d point out the error of her ways, speaking as they do in her familiar tongue of Republicanese? That’s where one would be wrong.  —KA

Now — days after their well-circulated (and comically received) letter to new Republican leaders to avoid playing up social issues when there are so many economic and government spending problems to work with — they’re defending Willow Palin, who called someone a “faggot” amidst a Facebook conflagration in which every Alaskan child participated ...

Either old Sarah is:

1.  A longhorns fan.

2.  A wave ridin big kahuna.

3.  A daughter of Satan.

4.  Going for the deaf Republican vote.

You dont suppose she heard that kind of talk at home, do you?

No, probably, at school.

Does she go to school?

Well, maybe from one on the neighbors.

Fat Freddy,

I don’t know if a Spicoli reference from the early 80’s is really applicable to these times, a lot has changed since then.  In some contexts you are right about the intended meaning of fag.  However, as someone with a lot of homosexual friends, and someone who has been mistaken by others as a homosexual and called fag in a derogatory way. I can tell you that it is meant to be hurtful, and is usually intended to emasculate them with words.

Further than that she also called him a “faggot”  I have never once heard that used as a reference to someone being lame, but always as a derogatory way to refer to homosexuals.

That being said, she is just a teenager and will say stupid things, but it could be indicative of a homophobic view within her family, and is therefore relevant.  If Sarah Palin wants to run for president, as she indicated she does recently, and bring her family into the spotlight through tv shows and apperances, then she better be ready for their actions to reflect back on her.  Her daughter calling people who don’t like her tv show “faggot” doesn’t exactly paint an image of a family that teaches tolerance and respect.

Those guys are fags.

- Jeff Spicoli (a closet homophobe, or brain dead stoner?)

Just another case of the “Speech Police”. I don’t know what context it was in, but, being a product of the 80s, when something was referred to as “gay” or a “fag”, it usually meant uncool, geek, nerd, etc., and was not a real reference to homosexuality, usually. It’s not the words that matter, it’s the context. Words have become just another piece of the “Gotcha” game. I suggest these people go play with themselves.

I don’t know who your are, but you spend entirely too much time thinking about the Palin family….and what they think…

Maybe it’s because you like making people feel some sort of outrage on a daily basis…. that you get to feel too along with them…

There’s the rub, when you feel it along with them, it seems to be sane, and real, but it’s not…

try to resolve your own rage, on your own time…and stop trying to get others to feel your feelings for you, that never works…

If you really want to get people p’od about something, why not do a story on the 42 million American’s that are now on food stamps..

Palin’s daughter used a gay slur?  That should add a few more tea-baggers to her fan club.

According to the AP news earlier today, Bristol also joined in with this name calling to the 14 y.o. who voiced his opinion about Sarah’s latest publicity stunt. Remember when Sarah boasted that her son Track went into the military so we could have the freedom of speech? He served as a chauffeur in the Green Zone and was out in less than 1 year and she now boasts that her son was a combat vet in Iraq-another lie.

So now if someone criticizes Mama Grizzly, her cubs attack them back. Bristol who recently turned 20 has shown her immaturity by participating in this attack and just after she was handed another week on Dancing With The Stars. The obvious outcome week after week of keeping a clearly unqualified person in this lop-sided competition, yeah right. No competition here, as Mama Grizzly no doubt threatened the judges that her little cub had better win or else.

I watched the new reality series? and from the behavior and attitude that Willow displayed in the first episode, I feel that Sarah needs to stick to her comment for this series and that she would rather be up in Alaska free instead of some stuffy political office someplace. She needs to raise her children with some manners, compassion-though she herself fails in that area greatly when it comes to wolves, polar bears, caribou, the environment, ANWAR and other big corps destroying the environment.Plus the damage has been done and it is almost impossible to correct anti-social behaviors after the age of 3. Do not be surprised when Willow comes up pregnant in the near future, after all, like mother, like daughter and since Bristol already fulfilled that 2 years ago, it’s Willows turn now.

I watched the new show to obtain a list of the sponsors of this truly false reality show to contact the sponsors and to boycott them, as they are promoting the anti-nature and environmentally destructive person and on a network-The Discovery/TLC network, that one would think would avoid someone like Sarah as their network used to be move positive toward animals and nature. Not anymore.
