Targets: Thousands of anti-government protesters had filled the streets of Sanaa on Friday.

At least 35 people were shot dead and hundreds more wounded on Friday when Yemeni soldiers opened fire on protesters marching through the country’s capital of Sanaa.

The demonstrators are demanding the resignation of the government of President Ali Abdullah Saleh. —JCL

The Guardian:

The death toll, which is expected to rise, is the highest seen in more than a month of violence in Yemen, with protesters demanding that President Ali Abdullah Saleh step down.

This points out yet another big difference between the Arab worlds and the West. In the west, the major causes of death are heart disease and cancer. In the Arab world, the major causes are protests and being a suicide bomber.

You gotta love the USA! Conspicuously silent when oily despots begin firing their US made weapons at those who yearn for democracy. What? You want us to come to your aid? Your timing is just awful! Give us a call in about 30 years, by then the oil will be gone and we just won’t give a shit anymore. You want a revolution? Go nuts.
