Army Chief Won’t Rule Out Longer Deployments

The Army’s new chief of staff, Gen. George Casey (of Iraq fame), has said he can’t guarantee that deployments won’t grow beyond the current 15 months. Casey was asked about the extensions by a frustrated Army wife who said her husband’s deployments have more than doubled in length over the years.

The general has said he wants to expedite an expansion of the Army to address the problem: “We live in a difficult period for the Army because the demand for our forces exceeds the supply.”

AP via Yahoo:

A woman in the group asked Casey if her husband’s deployments would stop getting longer. She said they used to last for six months in the 1990s but then started lasting nine months and 12 months. Two weeks ago, she heard the Army’s announcement that deployments would be extended as long as 15 months.

“Do you honestly foresee this spiral, in effect, stopping?” she asked.

Casey said the Army wants to keep deployments to 15 months, but “I cannot look at you in the eye and guarantee that it would not go beyond.”

He really needs more dead troops to move up to higher ranks. Soldiers’ blood used to decorate all generals prestige and ego.

“raid, iraq” - How much of this is merely finding a reason for keeping the arms manufacturers in business -  like, find a reason to expand the Army? These were Iraqi citizens living in their own country!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brWQXaw4Wx8

A woman I work with told me a friend of hers is going into the army. He wants to learn to fly helicopters.

I told her that since the army is running low on recruits he may not get helicopter training and will be put in Iraq soon after being inducted into the military.

I told her that once he signs on the dotted line the army owns him and will do what they like to him. Regardless of what he was promised.

She is scared for him. He’s cannon fodder now.

“We live in a difficult period for the Army because the “Corporate” demand for our forces exceeds the supply.”
Maybe bringing back the draft is what it’ll take to wake people up to do more to demand an end to this nightmare. Too few people in this country give a shit because it isn’t affecting them. The inevitable return of the draft will certainly get everyone’s attention. There is no greater motivator than being camel fodder in Iraq for Bu$h Inc.

The Army is asking for trouble. New recruits are hard to find - or are they intending to bring back the draft?

More troops getting killed, horribly injured, psychologically traumatized ... and mid-level officers and NCOs getting out of the active-duty Army, reserves and National Guard ... all during plans to expand the Army.

How long will this go on? And how long until a military draft is proposed?

If the country doesn’t face the reality of this sloppy run war and get out of Iraq soon. If we continue to extend the combat assignments of the troops, in a war that was clearly started by the lying of Bush/Cheney, then we can expect that somewhere along the line the military itself will say enough. This is something that is called mutiny and if it happens it will be one more gift of Bush/Cheney, along with a huge debt to China, that will make us China’s sock puppet, No revenue in the treasury to maintain infastructure in the country or maintain basic human services to the people.

Finally the Repubublican Party will get what it wants a hypocritical theocracy, banana republic. All our proud history will lay in the gutter, cast aside by two men, most remarkable for their lack of basic humanity and common sense. Well we allowed them to hold office and we will have to live or die with the consequences. Welcome to the United States of Corporations!
