Anthony Weiner Announces NYC Mayoral Bid (Video)
Posted on May 22, 2013
In an attempt at a political comeback after accidentally sharing his sex life with the world through Twitter, Andrew Weiner has decided to run for New York City mayor. The six-term congressman resigned amid the sexting scandal in 2011.
Weiner made the announcement Wednesday via a two-minute video posted online in which he talks about his childhood in Brooklyn and presents himself as a champion of the middle class. He “decries rising rents, inadequate schools, overregulated neighborhood businesses, and a paucity of ‘good jobs with benefits,’ ” The New York Times reports.
Weiner says: “Look, I made some big mistakes, and I know I let a lot of people down. But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it my entire life. And I hope I get a second chance to work for you.
“The very people that put everything they had into this city are getting priced right out of it,” he adds. “But it doesn’t have to be that way.”
So far, the hopeful is reported to have $5 million in campaign funds.
