Anonymous Strikes U.S. Law Enforcement SitesPosted on Aug 7, 2011
The hacking group Anonymous took credit Saturday for the theft of a cache of data from rural American law enforcement websites in retaliation for arrests of associates and sympathizers in the United States and Britain. The stolen material appears to contain some sensitive information, including tips regarding suspected crimes and the identities of their providers, credit card information and details of ongoing investigations. One person confirmed money had been stolen from his credit card account, and a number of the offices targeted seemed unaware of the attacks as of early Saturday evening. —ARK

In addition to more robust spam filtering and moderation, new features include the ability to rate other comments, sort how they are displayed and respond directly via e-mail or in a thread. Unfortunately, commenters will lose their existing Truthdig identities. It's a pain, we know, but on the plus side you will now be able to log in with a plethora of options, including Google, Twitter, Facebook and Disqus accounts. Before launching this system we spent months in discussion with our top commenters. We listened to the feedback and we hope you like what we've come up with.
