Anaheim Police Crack Down on Protesters (Video)

After police shot two men in separate incidents in Anaheim over the weekend, many residents took to the streets, demanding answers from officers who witnesses say overreacted. After days of protests, the demonstrations turned violent Tuesday, with protesters throwing rocks at officers and breaking dozens of windows and police using batons, beanbags, rubber bullets and other nonlethal weapons. Among the injured were women and children who were caught in the scuffle. One woman said she was bitten by a police dog.

Demonstrators say that officers reacted to a single bottle thrown by one man, but details are unclear. Whatever prompted the escalation, more violence is the last thing Anaheim needs. The police and the protesters would do well to keep that in mind. —Posted by Christian Neumeister

Los Angeles Times:

The FBI has agreed to review a controversial fatal officer-involved shooting that sparked days of unrest and violence in Anaheim.

Anaheim officials said they have also asked state officials to launch a review of the Saturday incident, which is already being probed by the Orange County district attorney. The district attorney has asked the public to share any photos or video of the shooting and its aftermath.
