The area outside Terminal C at Newark Liberty International Airport, shown in 2006.

We’re betting this scenario will wind up in: (a) a romantic comedy, and/or (b) a “ripped from the headlines” TV show at some point in the not-so-distant future. Last Sunday’s temporary terminal shutdown at Newark Liberty International Airport didn’t stem from an attempted terrorist attack or something similarly sinister; rather, it occurred after a loved-up couple attempted to go in for one last snuggle before an airplane whisked one of them away.  —KA

AP via the Houston Chronicle:

The video shows a man embracing a woman before she enters a secured, passengers-only area of the terminal.

The man stations himself near an exit lane, where departing passengers pass a security guard to leave the terminal. A minute or so later, after the guard leaves his podium for several seconds, the woman comes back toward the exit and motions to the man, who ducks under the rope and walks into the passenger-only area.

[...] One of Newark’s terminals was closed for six hours Sunday night, stranding thousands of passengers and wreaking havoc on flight schedules around the world for more than a day.

One of the reasons I refuse to fly any more.

Our nations airline security is run by nut cases who lack common sense and basic intelligence.

I’ll drive.

That’s what I heard——it was somebody saying good-bye at the gate like we used to do.

All that love and folks are just keyed in to fear and hate.  In the US, that is.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I don’t know what goes on in the heads of “management” and “authorities” who put up a ROPE and consider it a security device. The incompetence certainly isn’t limited to the terrorists.

I wouldn’t fly today if THEY PAID ME. But don’t let that stop everyone else. You don’t know how much TV entertainment I get from watching airports crammed with crowds of harried sheep GOING NOWHERE FAST every holiday. And the LUGGAGE! Tons and tons of unnecessary crap being hauled all over the planet at great expense to pocketbooks and the environment.

FOOLS.
