American Corporations Dodge Billions in TaxesPosted on Apr 15, 2012
You work hard. You pay taxes. But 26 corporations don’t—or at least they didn’t between 2008 and 2011. General Electric, Boeing and Verizon were among the major companies that together enjoyed more than $78 billion in tax subsidies over the last four years, according to a report by Citizens for Tax Justice. In 2011, 30 corporations paid an average federal income tax of 7.1 percent—far less than the statutory 35 percent federal corporate tax rate. Over the four-year period, Wells Fargo managed to avoid paying $21.6 billion, General Electric $10.6 billion, Verizon $7.7 billion and Boeing $6 billion. Bob McIntyre, director of Citizens for Tax Justice, connected widespread corporate tax evasion to America’s budget problems and the government’s inability to fund badly needed public works projects. “Getting rid of corporate tax subsidies that cause such widespread tax avoidance ought to be a key part of any deficit-reduction program,” McIntyre says. “As a bonus, revenue-raising corporate tax reform would make it much easier to fund the investments we need to improve education and repair our crumbling roads and bridges—things that would actually help businesses and our economy grow.” —ARK

This is nothing new. The question is - What are you going to do about it?
FIGHT THE CAUSE - NOT THE SYMPTOM

felicity—Just as Nancy Reagan’s answer to homeless people was “just buy a house!” Ronnie’s answer to your situation would be “just marry a multi-millionaire”. Just like Ann Romney did!!!

Remember the epithet “welfare queens” for poor women
who lived on the government dole? Can we call
corporations who live on the government dole “welfare
kings?”
Sort of reminds me of the fanciful definition of
Report this‘work.’ If a woman is a mother and poor and can’t
find employment that pays enough to cover her child
care costs, she’s forced to live on welfare and is
classified as not ‘working.’ But if she’s Ann Romney
her “career choice” (I love it) to be a mother is
classified as ‘work?’

Amazing the the big boys would still want to continue to strengthen the opposition by persisting in the same unjust procedures.

In the case of Wells Fargo, their tax “subsidy” may have been a bit of a government payback for buying Wachovia bank and taking some of the heat from the 378 billion dollar Mexican drug money laundering scandal.
Report thisSupposedly, this money was the only really liquid investment capital available to banks on the brink of collapse in 2008. For their brazen criminal activity,
Wachovia paid a miniscule 160 million dollar fine. Wells Fargo was able to make the purchase thanks to 25 billion in taxpayer bailout money. Who knows how much they got by picking up Wachovia.

Still want to keep Obama as president? He’s just as bad as the Repubs - every week I learn how right wing he really is - this is yet another example of his ‘talk left, govern right’ spiel. The question is: do you hold your nose and vote for him or doyou hold your nose and vote for Romney?
