Alzheimer’s Disease: A Tiny Step Forward

The progression of Alzheimer’s disease was arrested in four patients who received an intravenous antibody treatment over three years, researchers reported at a conference in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Researchers noted that the results were inconclusive since they involved such a small group of patients. But with Alzheimer’s still mostly a mystery to medical science, any small step forward in treatment is good news.

... The highlight finding, Relkin said, was that 3-year ADAS-Cog and CGIC scores in the four patients who received 0.4 g/kg every 2 weeks throughout the study were the same as at baseline.

Untreated Alzheimer’s disease patients in his clinic nearly always show measurable decline in 3 to 6 months, he said.
