‘A Pledge to America’Posted on Sep 23, 2010
Republicans may not have any ideas, as the Democrats are fond of saying, but they do have plenty of momentum and, now, a pledge. Instead of a “Contract With America” it’s “A Pledge to America,” and, because we’re still taking baby steps here, the Republican leadership is not urging any Republicans to actually make the pledge. The plan will be unveiled Thursday by House Minority Leader John Boehner and a few friends and colleagues and, according to The Washington Post, it’s a choose-your-own-adventure sort of pledge:
The saddest thing about the document is its lack of ambition. Republican lawmakers say they differ from the Democrats in that they want to reduce the size of government, but the proposal, as evaluated by the Post, would cut a mere $100 billion from government programs. It would actually allocate additional funds to the military, where much of our tax dollars go to die, for the purposes of (sigh) missile defense. The draft pledge also states the GOP’s intention to repeal President Barack Obama’s health care plan and replace it with something along the lines of what Republicans wanted—liability limits, portable coverage and a permanent ban on taxpayer funds for abortions. Just what we need: A zombie rebirth of the endless health care debate that refuses to die. —PZS Advertisement Previous item: Court Clears the Way for Gay Adoptions in Florida Next item: Neuroscientist Gets 86 Years for a 'Freak Out' New and Improved CommentsWe are launching a major overhaul of our comments section. I am total agreement with ocjim’s comment.
“Repugs pledge. Democrats flinch and cringe.
What Dems need is unflinching ruthlessness for the people.”
Reminded me of that unesy feeling I got during 2004 Presidential campaign. Kevin Phillips appearing on Bill Moyers’ show said time after time that Kerry has the goods on these Bushes. He was on the Senate committee that investigated Credit Suisse and the Long Term Capital Management scandals, and, yet, he said nothing, except a brief, ‘these are nasty people’ while taking off his microphone. The remark was picked up by cable news, but Kerry backed off and even apologized.
Now, all we hear is Social Security is a Ponzi scheme; we should privatize the VA and Medicare; we should cut taxes and cut spending, and on and on.
When is someone in the Democratic Party going to strap on a set of balls and at least make a fight out of it?
If they don’t we should ask for a refund of all the money they were paid while that were sleeping on the job and having one helluva grand ole time.

The AARP had an article about countries where American expats are going nowadays. France, Italy, Panama come to mind and there are two others I’ve forgotten at the moment.
With no children and not being swayed by the tug of right-wing idealogues like Michael Kinsley and Evan Thomas about the ‘Debt’ we are leaving our grandchildren, I think I’ll pledge to get the hell out of here before the shit hits the fan.
These people are crazy, just plain nuts. Yet, they stand in the wings of power, waiting to take center stage.
Boehner (who’s he?). Well I’ll tell you who he is. He’s a graduate of Xavier college in Cincinnati at 22 and by 27 he’s president of some half-assed company. That should tell you something.
Another thing that should hint to his real character: his orange Man Tan and his crying at the podium on the House floor tells me he’s a drunk. A guy who got ahead by the mere physiology of having and empty leg.
God bless us all if these would’ve-beens come to power.
I pledge to get the hell out of here.

A “Contract” is stronger than a “Pledge,” and they could not deliver on the former (thank God).
Here is their pledge:
“I pledge allegiance to the swag
Of the Untied State of Amerikka.
And to the Republicans for which I stand
One nation under (a Christian) God
Easily divisible
With liberty and justice for
Those who are like us, but not for anyone we don’t like, such as immigrants, gays, Muslims and other ‘problems.’”
Peace (?)

As the repugs hit the Sunday morning talk shows…there’s only one question that needs answering. HOW WILL YOUR PLAN HELP THE MIDDLE CLASS ? Do you suppose any of the talking heads will go there ? Perhaps before asking that question it might be appropriate to ask who and when they have lobbied for Wall St., or Big Pharma, or the oil industry, or the tobacco industry, or the arms merchants, etc..etc..

Here’s my pledge: on November 2nd I’ll vote straight Democrat for local, state and federal levels. And further more, I will never vote for a Republican. Not ever.

“Hey little girl/boy, would you like some candy?” “Would you like to see my etchings?” “Would you like to hear my Pledge to America?” Everything tells me “RUN LIKE HELL”. They look like nice people(except for Boehner)and they act like nice people, but you don’t really know what goes on in those deceitful minds except you know they want “Self-satisfaction”. I was not raised a fool, I got there on my own, but I am not fool enough to fall for this bull**** from the GOP.

The smears and lies are coming thick and fast now. This new “Contract On America” will do what the last one did; gut the funding for any and all programs that help the most helpless people in this nation. That’s where the Republican Machine prefers to steal money to give to the rich in the form of tax relief, because the elderly, disabled and chronically poor have no voice in this country. They are the perfect victims, made to order for a group of liars and thieves like those in the Republican Machine to work over for every cent they can steal.
Here’s how it works when the dirty Republican shoe shows up on the other foot. Here in Washington State, we have a close Senatorial race between the incumbent, Patty Murray, a dedicated, hard-working Democrat with a great voting record, and a rich, scummy Republican named Dino Rossi who is willing to do what rich, scummy Republicans do to get elected, including buying the election. After suffering through repeated smarmy, lying smear commercials, Murray’s people decided to fight fire with fire.
One of her proponent organizations put together a smear ad just like the ones the Republicans are so famous for, with the bad pictures slightly out of focus, showing the incumbent in the worst light possible while the narrator smarms his way through a list of things the candidate would (never) do if he got elected. When it hit the airwaves, you could hear Rossi sniveling a thousand miles away. You’d have thought someone had burned down his house and kicked his dog. He was crying and whining about how unfair these commercials are and what a dirtbag Murray must be to make them. Talk about your two-faced bullshit! It would have been funny, had not the future of this nation been hanging in the balance. The Republican Machine doesn’t care much for being portrayed in the same light that they have no conscience about shining on their opponents. It’s business as usual in the body politic, and it’s time to wake up, America. Don’t screw this up again!

All of Europe, half the Middle East, Central and South ?America and half of Africa, plus India, China, Japan and most of Southeast Asia and Australia and Canada must think this country has gone entirely mad. They seem to just stand by and watch, with their mouths hanging open.

I don’t think that’s enough. I would go farther and say don’t vote for either of the two major party candidates. I am a member of the Libertarian Party, but there is no LP on the ballot in my district. (Had I known sooner, I would have tried to put my name on it.) So, I will vote for the Green Party candidate, most likely, even though there are fundamental differences. I made a pledge to myself that I will never vote for a Democrat or Republican ever again. The lesser of two evils, is still evil.

Vote against all incumbents, all the time is my new
Report thismantra. Now that the supreme court has given human
rights to the zombie corporations that want to eat our
brains and suck our blood (ok they really just want to
suck all of our money into their pockets, but you know
what I mean), and the ability to buy all of our
politicians legally and with no limits, we need to make
it harder for them to do so. Of course they give
bribes, er excuse me, campaign contributions to both
parties so all voting against all incumbents does is
slow down the corruption a bit.

You must pay particular attention to the first clause of the contact, er, pledge, because it’s most important:

Who said anything about a sanity clause? You can’t fool me, there’s no such thing as Sanity Clause.

We should be so lucky to have the GOP gut this pig of a law. But they won’t. Not just because they can’t, but because they don’t want to, not really, for this already is a bigger giveaway than any of the previous bailouts. Some of them will bitch about it for awhile, blame the dimmos for blocking it so they can play to their base for 2012.

That health care debate that refuses to die is because the Obama administration and Congress have mandated that Americans must buy insurance from private corporations, whether they want to or not.
