The White House says it briefed Congress on its bank records collection program long ago, but Senate Intelligence Committee member Diane Feinstein says she was briefed only after it became clear that the N.Y. Times was going to run its story on the program.

Crooks and Liars

I?m not always on the same page as Dianne Feinstein, but today she called Bush out on one of his characterisitc media manipulations.. She says that she wasn?t briefed on the BankRecord/SWIFT program. Remember when Bush said that he briefed Congress and then called the NY Times disgraceful?

trancript via Think Progress:

STEPHANOPOULOS: The White House said they briefed the Congress on this matter and there is no law called into question. Do you believe that a law is called into question and that this program might have been illegal?

FEINSTEIN: Well, I?m on the Intelligence Committee. I can tell you when I was briefed and when the committee was briefed ? and that was when it became apparent that the New York Times had the story and was going to run it. And that?s when and why they came to us and briefed us.
