Republican Wins in New Jersey, TooPosted on Nov 3, 2009
It was a night of disappointment for Democrats, who lost the governor’s mansion in New Jersey shortly after losing in Virginia. But was it a referendum on President Barack Obama’s agenda, as some pundits claimed, or testament to the unpopularity of incumbent governor and former Goldman Sachs CEO (great timing) Jon Corzine? The winner of the contest, former U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie (pictured), once played a villain of sorts in a particularly troubling report from public radio’s “This American Life.” It’s worth a listen if you don’t already know this one. After all, the man will now lead the most densely populated state in the nation. —PZS

No Ryan, only half right. Democrats maintained control of the Assembly.

Looking at California where their Republican governor is turning out not to be
what they thought and who lost self control by writing “Fuck You” in a
document to the mostly Democratic Legislature, Schwarzenegger and the
Republican leadership in the California legislature are making a big issue out of
“no new taxes,” a posture which is leading to the most severe cuts in public
spending in California history, crucial cuts in critical education areas, and all
kinds of public services including health, police and fire protection. Given the
devastating fires California chronically has, that does not seem like a very good
move. Oh well. The People’s Vanguard of Davis writes…“when Schwarzenegger
says that he will veto any new taxes he means that he will protect the income
of corporations, large businesses, corporate executives like Carly Fiona and
Meg Whitman (who have millions to spend on their own political campaigns by
the way), and other rich people who buy airplanes, yachts, and expensive legal
and lobbying services.” So other state government watchers notice.
This is the way of all Republican governors. One of Texas’s Rick Perry biggest
Report thispolitical backers, reported the Dallas News - “Austin banker James Huffines -
got nearly $88 million in the payout to save banks and Wall Street. Huffines is
president of Plains National Bank Financial and executive vice president of the
bank’s holding company, Plains Capital Corp. He’s a top Perry fundraiser and a
member of Perry’s political “kitchen cabinet” of advisers.” Republican
governors are not the most moral of men much to the screeching about
Democrats by the GOP. “Kindliness” in the Austin Chronicle, “to the
unfortunate never has played well with the Republican base.” so Perry and the
GOP legislators rejected $555 million of federal stimulus to shore up the Texas
unemployment-insurance funds… Perry doesn’t have to care what the state
Liberals or AFL-CIO think. His concern is playing to the hardcore conservatives
that he’ll count on to survive past next March’s Republican primary.

I fell kinda sorry for the citizens of NJ. They had a no win/no win situation. Corzine was not a good governnor——more of a gate keeper. Christie is another winner, but will tear down the gate! Several years ago they had a governor by the name of Christine Whitman and the new governor with the name of Chris Christie is too much of a coincidence. If you listened to the campaign of Christie it was the virtually same words as Whitman——lower taxes, cut spending. Whitman, in her turn in office, did cut taxes by a whopping 30%, but soon realized she couldn’t run the state on the reduced revenue so she borrowed from the pension fund and eventually the chickens came home to roost as they say and NJ was broke! But she was out of office and like all politician placed the blame on other factors. But looking back she was a disaster for NJ and the ordinary citizen. One thing she did was to deregulate the power industry in NJ and of course to make it appealing a tickler is place in the legislation that the rates cannot be raise for a certain period of time, but after that watch out. Today, PSE&G, the primary power company in NJ is now the fox in the coop——gas and electric rates are one of the highest in the nation and PSE&G hold the reins.
Christie will do the same thing he will cut taxes, but spending cuts become problematic. All I know is that seniors who receive property tax rebates can expect their checks to be cut at least in half next year and co-pay for those seniors on the PAAD plan will rise substantially. Seniors are easy and with short memories——in four years they won’t know who did it.
You folks in NJ——tighten your seat belts it’s gonna be a rocky ride!

And so the Republican Comeback, aimed at finishing off the middle class and looting what remains in our pockets and bank accounts, has begun. Anybody with a mere handful of brains could have told you this was going to happen. The cowardly, mealy-mouthed Democrats, led by Superman Obama, will learn nothing from this. They need a slide rule, an abacus, a calculator and GPS to get to the toilet.

A monster win for Chris and Republicans state-wide. Independent of the turn-out the voters had their voices heard. We’ll see what he can do for the state and how this influences the national scene.

Fat Freddy on Corzine: “I think many voters equated Corzine with
Goldman Sacks. The problem is Corzine hasn’t been involved with GS since
1998, when he was ousted by Hank Paulson. We all know who he is.”
I agree, but why then didn’t the Dumb Democrats make that widely known in
NJ. That is hindsight I know but nevertheless I think it was exceedingly dumb
to let that governorship go. And I think the Democrats do not know how to
keep their seats or other political offices. The fact that Republicans have not
won a the governorship in NueJoizee for 8 years is a dumb criticism because
that is only two elections and they held the office 8 years ago and lost for a
reason, DUMMY DEMOCRATS! See I am yelling like MA/TG! I know it doesn’t
work. The dumb democrats do not read TD or if they do, they don’t give a s_ _
t!
But…
The win by Republicans of two governorships are not in my mind too much to
be concerned about. Gubernatorial races are state bound and much goes on
within the borders of states that reflect the mood of the voting public. In each
of these states there was not a great Democrat movement to provide their
people within the scope of their power more comfort about their fears about
the economy and jobs. The Democrats in those states are to blame for the
losing of their governorships. And that is the way it is in each and every
sovereign state.
Now when it comes to senate and house of representative offices that is a
completely different story. The G.D. democrats had better get off their assess,
collectively and individually and keep those f’n seats! Or this country will really
be turned over to the corporatocracy. Am I wrong?
smaosamo, I find I agree with you more than not on TD. However, your
comment…his slick tongue rhetoric has revealed as just that, all talk and no
action as far as the people’s hope of his pulling this country out of the disaster
that he actually has perpetuated with his keeping the foxes in charge of the
economic henhouse and pumping more money and bodies into our illegal wars,
in short maintaining the corporate reign over our government.” I think is a
bit shortsighted. He, Obama, is expected to be a miracle worker, better than
Annie Sullivan was to help Helen Keller access the world in her blindness and
deafness. You have to admit the voting public are both deaf and blind when it
comes to issues not existing in their own tight shoes. Yes Obama has a slick
tongue, he is a politician! Show me one who does not have a slick tongue!
Results will happen but the man is not a one-man show even with his
administration of assistants. It takes a Congress to implement and they are
foot-draggers as we can witness Harry Reid yesterday giving voice to a possible
drag the Senate feet on the health care issue! I was dumbfounded to hear that
come out of his mouth. I am not a violent person, never had a gun, never had
a weapon of any kind, never even spanked my kids (punished them with room
restriction) but I do not resort to violence! However if I had had a gun, maybe a
paint gun, I would have shot him right in the mouth! It is the stupidest thing I
think I’ve ever heard. Well I’m sure there are many others, but I a really sore at
this one! Anyway back to your comment. I think that comment by Reid proves
the power of Congress. The president is only a good as is his congress. If a
Republican president got things done, it was because he had extraordinarily
strong allies in Congress.
Thank goodness Owen swiped the seat in New York, as that does give the
Report thisHouse one more Democrat. Will he be one of the Dummocrats is the question?

This is the worrisome thing about people being frustrated with o after his
campaigning for ‘change to believe in’ and what his actions versus his slick tongue

of his pulling this country out of the disaster that he actually has perpetuated with
his keeping the foxes in charge of the economic henhouse and pumping more

Exit polls showed that 89 percent of voters in New Jersey,...were “very” worried about the economy
Nothing like a Federal Prosecutor to fix the economy.
NJ voters did what I did, only opposite. I split the ticket. I voted for Corzine, but I voted for Republicans for the State Assembly. Christy won, but the Dems maintained control of the Assembly.
I think many voters equated Corzine with Goldman Sacks. The problem is Corzine hasn’t been involved with GS since 1998, when he was ousted by Hank Paulson. We all know who he is.

So now the Police State, known as NJ, now has a former federal prosecutor with ties to John Ashcroft, at the helm. Ashcroft, wasn’t he the guy that ordered that the “nude” statues (the Spirit of Justice and the Majesty of Law) at the Robert F. Kennedy Department of Justice Building be covered with sheets?

Time will tell as we all know, but the absolute lack of leadership on any level, cowardice, and the obsession with so-called “bi-partisanship” displayed by “The Obama King” played a major role….
