Obama's Nobel speech

Nobel judge Inger-Marie Ytterhorn said she noticed that Obama “didn’t look particularly happy” when he first spoke about receiving the Nobel Peace Prize on Oct. 9.

All but one of the five judges who picked President Barack Obama as the recipient of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize sounded off on Tuesday about their decision, noting Obama’s less-than-jubilant initial reaction to the announcement and shedding more light on the reasons behind their choice, which one judge reported was unanimous.  —KA

AP via Google News:

Even the most seasoned Nobel watchers were surprised by Obama’s Nobel — they hadn’t expected the U.S. president, who took office barely two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline, to be seriously considered until at least next year.

Jagland said that was never an issue for the Nobel committee, which followed the guidelines set forth by Alfred Nobel, the Swedish industrialist and inventor of dynamite who established the prize in his 1895 will.

“Alfred Nobel wrote that the prize should go to the person who has contributed most to the development of peace in the previous year,” Jagland said.

“Who has done more for that than Barack Obama?”

Aagot Valle, a left-wing Norwegian politician who joined the Nobel panel this year, also dismissed suggestions that Obama was undeserving of the honor.

“Don’t you think that comments like that patronize Obama? Where do these people come from?” Valle said from the coastal city of Bergen. “Well, of course, all arguments have to be considered seriously. I’m not afraid of a debate on the Peace Prize decision. That’s fine.”

Sheesh—who HASn’t?
Jon STEWart’s “done more for peace”. Cindy Sheehan’s done more. The AWOL 20-year-old who escaped his Army captors at the Denver airport has done more for peace.

This is really a tired-out string, but for the record, let’s say once more:  Obama inherited (caps, exclamation mark) both wars, in Afghanistan and Iraq, from people who should never have started it, but having started it should have stopped it long ago.  It would have been much easier, before the military-industrial complex got its teeth in so deep.

The Nobel Peace Prize Committee members say they will stand by President Obama and their decision, and that they are not about to change their minds, which is good.  In my opinion the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to President Obama was a wonderful decision.

After winning the Nobel Peace Prize, Obama escalated the AFPak war with 12 MORE military, ina addition to the 20 thousand he sent previously.  That’s after pressuring the fake Palestinian leadership to deny the UN’s investigation of Israel’s war crimes in Gaza.

This Nobel prize is a good example of the West’s moral decay, giving a peace prize to the leader of the world’s most warlike power.
