Conservatives Stripping ‘Liberal Bias’ From the Bible

A group of conservatives is working on “a thought-for-thought translation” of the Bible “without corruption by liberal bias.” Yes, that Bible. The organization seeks to create a document that, among other things, is “Not Emasculated,” that “Express[es] Free Market Parables” and that favors “conciseness [over] the liberal style of high word-to-substance ratio.” That Jesus was such a wordy socialist.
According to the brains at Conservapedia, the Web site responsible, liberal tendencies in the previous versions of the Bible can’t be blamed on poor translation alone. The fault also lies in “lack of precision in the original language. ... ” You don’t say.
Before you scoff, know that Conservapedia has anticipated your derision. “[L]iberals will oppose this effort,” the site warns. “[B]ut they will have to read the Bible to criticize this, and that will open their minds.”
The group’s guidelines for the Conservative Bible Project are below. —PS
Conservapedia via Swampland:
As of 2009, there is no fully conservative translation of the Bible which satisfies the following ten guidelines:
- Framework against Liberal Bias: providing a strong framework that enables a thought-for-thought translation without corruption by liberal bias
- Not Emasculated: avoiding unisex, “gender inclusive” language, and other modern emasculation of Christianity
- Not Dumbed Down: not dumbing down the reading level, or diluting the intellectual force and logic of Christianity; the NIV is written at only the 7th grade level
- Utilize Powerful Conservative Terms: using powerful new conservative terms as they develop; defective translations use the word “comrade” three times as often as “volunteer”; similarly, updating words which have a change in meaning, such as “word”, “peace”, and “miracle”.
- Combat Harmful Addiction: combating addiction by using modern terms for it, such as “gamble” rather than “cast lots”; using modern political terms, such as “register” rather than “enroll” for the census
- Accept the Logic of Hell: applying logic with its full force and effect, as in not denying or downplaying the very real existence of Hell or the Devil.
- Express Free Market Parables; explaining the numerous economic parables with their full free-market meaning
- Exclude Later-Inserted Liberal Passages: excluding the later-inserted liberal passages that are not authentic, such as the adulteress story
- Credit Open-Mindedness of Disciples: crediting open-mindedness, often found in youngsters like the eyewitnesses Mark and John, the authors of two of the Gospels
- Prefer Conciseness over Liberal Wordiness: preferring conciseness to the liberal style of high word-to-substance ratio; avoid compound negatives and unnecessary ambiguities; prefer concise, consistent use of the word “Lord” rather than “Jehovah” or “Yahweh” or “Lord God.”
Thus, a project has begun among members of Conservapedia to translate the Bible in accordance with these principles. The [partly] translated Bible can be found here.

MarthaA’s answer: I haven’t been trying to justify the Bible, the Bible needs no justification.
You say you are an iconoclast, who doesn’t believe in God, and strangely enjoys the destruction of the Bible—otherwise you wouldn’t bother with this thread.
Did you know Protestant Christians, like myself, are also iconoclasts?
You say you are not involved and not a Conservative EXTREMIST, but you posted on this thread, which involves YOU, a strange thing to do since you don’t believe in God, just feel the necessity to laugh at all the liberal being removed from the Christians’ Bible — why is that? ——because that is what the thread is about and you would have to be a Conservative EXTREMIST to find humor in that.
There are way over 100 different versions of the Bibles, why is the Christian bible the only one of concern to you?
The Bible says not to argue theology, therefore I do not argue theology.
My mother saw an angel more than once before she died, which made me aware there are other dimensions besides the one we are in where we will go when we die, which is comforting for one to know that one will not die like an insect.
Also, when God’s angels work in your life you can know there is an after life. The prerequisite of our location in eternal life is based on what we do with our lives here on planet earth, with the basis being to love the Lord YOUR God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself——that’s it——no more. How could that be hard to swallow.
People could go to heaven before Jesus, and I expect that if one could be Holy enough to get to heaven without God’s sacrifice of his Son, it may be possible, but I don’t see how, since Jesus is God and if one doesn’t recognize Jesus—How can one recognize God, since they are One. I love and choose Jesus, because he first loved me and made a way for this sinner to have everlasting life. To my knowledge, the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Jesus is the only God offering eternal life.
As I said before, I agree with stefan regarding the Evangelical Christian Conservative’s having their own conservative bible——let them have at it.

I don’t believe in your god, so I must be involved in this right-wing conspiracy to re-invent the bible? Where did that one come from?
No, MarthaA, I’m just one of the happy pagans out here enjoying life as it is, taking advantage of what nature’s provided for us. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m an iconoclast—-been that way since I was knee-high to a short frog. In the words of Bob Dylan, “I used to be disgusted, but now I’m just amused.”
As I tried to point out, arguing theology with a Christer is a pointless exercise. I don’t actually care what or who you worship, if anything. It’s none of my affair, normally, but when I find people trying to justify something with the use of the bible, I just naturally want to step in and poke some fun at them.
It all stems from that old bugbear, the one remaining question humans have been picking at and worrying over over since we discovered that our lives come to an end. The big question is this: What happens to the human consciousness when we die?
There is only one correct answer, and it’s not very comforting, but it is the truth: I don’t know. Neither do you, and despite what the guy in the robe said last Sunday morning, neither does he. Anyone claiming to know the answer to that question is either a prevaricator, or simply wishes to believe in something that relieves them of the worry stemming from the old question. The more they persist in denying their ignorance in the matter, the more determined to believe they become. Christianity leaves no room for such speculation—-consideration of the matter is not welcomed.
According to the great Robert Anson Heinlein, America is a place where we can worship any cockamamie thing we want as long as we don’t prevent someone else from worshiping any cockamamie thing they want. Believe what you wish, MarthaA, and good luck to you.

All the Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMIST bible rewriters can possibly accomplish is the making of another heathen bible to shun, which is silly, and their actions to destroy God’s Word, only reinforces the legitimacy of God’s Word, because God doesn’t change.

There was no need for you to hurry to prove my point, MarthaA, but thank you. The new “conservative bible” in the article lists as number five on their schedule of things to change as “combatting harmful addictions.” That’s precisely what religion is, a harmful addiction.
Tests have shown that the neural pathways in the brain that are activated when a religionist is confronted by a solid argument against religion are the same neural pathways that light up when a heroin addict is told that no heroin is forthcoming. Both the religionist and the heroin user are addicts, and both will respond in exactly the same manner when their addiction is threatened; they fight back. I expected nothing else. By the way, how’re those piccolo lessons coming?

No, I was never made to go to church. On my own, I accepted Jesus and joined a Baptist Church, then after my mother died, I read the Bible in a different light, the Christ I know is a far different Christ than the Evangelical Conservative Christians Supply-Side Jesus.
God is not what is wrong with the world—Sin is what is wrong with the world. As a nation our country needs to repent from trusting in money and power; and get back to praising God and relying on God, doing good with NO FEAR for the population and the world——universal single-payer health care would be a good start for the U.S. along with ending the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as Jesus would not approve of our reasons to be there.

Hey, MarthaA!
When you were a little girl, did your parents stuff you into a cute little dress and toddle you off to church? Did you sit through all those dull bible classes, where they told you lies like “Jesus loves the little children?” I guess that only applies to children not born into third-world countries, to parents living in grinding poverty.
Did your parents pour that crap into your little head practically from the time you came home from the maternity ward? Were bible stories told around the coffee table? I know how this works because I was born into it myself. Fortunately for me, I had questions the pastor couldn’t answer; lots of questions. I went looking for the answers on my own, and I found them. The answers I found were realistic enough that they contradicted the unbelievable nonsense I heard in church, and I found myself wondering how all those adults could sit there and listen to that baloney, nodding their heads in non-comprehending agreement.
By the time I reached nine years old, I knew it was all nonsense, the stuff of fairy tales. How is it that so many people can retain belief in something that is, on its face, patently riduculous? It begins with the thorough brainwashing of a young child, and to my way of thinking, MarthaA, that makes you a victim.
Pouring that silly crap into a youngster’s head is nothing short of child abuse. It saddles them with false beliefs that will go on to rob them of a full and complete adult life, which they will spend on thier knees in abasement to a god that doesn’t exist, waiting for a promise of paradise after death.
My advice to you is to get off your knees and embrace the wonderful realities of this life while you still can. Sadly, in your case, it appears the damage is permanent, and the nonsense is locked into place, closing your mind to reality in all its forms. Talking of realities to a Christer is about like trying to teach a parking meter to play the piccolo. You have my sincere sympathy.

Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMISTS are making an all out effort while they are out of power with everything they can think of, including rewriting the Holy Bible, to make themselves the center of attention and try to project their FAILED Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMIST Movement as a force to be reckoned with on a National Level.
All the Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMIST Movement has left is the people in the churches of the Evangelical Christians, that the Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMISTS have indoctrinated into believing that God is a Privatized Capitalist, and that Jesus was born as the Son of God to be Supply-Side Jesus in support of Privatized Capitalism; if this was not so utterly and completely ludicrous and destructive of the lives of Evangelical Christians and the lives of their families and their progeny, it would be funny.
God fearing Christians of this country and the World need to speak out forcefully against this Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMIST blasphemy against God and God’s Holy Bible, and do all that they can to help the deluded Evangelical Christians that are in the grip of Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMIST sophism and propaganda to realize that as Christians their mission is to serve God and follow Jesus the Christ, instead of the Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMIST Supply-Side Jesus bible that directs them to follow the dictates of fascist doctrine of the Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMIST Movement.
We need missionaries sent to proselytize among the Evangelical Christians to bring the heathen hoard that is the Evangelical Christians to God through Our Lord Jesus Christ. Christians that worship Privatized Capitalism in the Name of God are not Christians; they are heathens and now the Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMISTS want to make their heathen contingent a heathen bible that they can use in their prayers to Capitalism and Supply-Side Jesus.
Supply-Side Jesus is a heathen and the Holy Bible made into an instrument of Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMIST Supply-Side Doctrine is blasphemy.
If ever there was a time for Christians that follow the Holy Bible in the Name of God and Jesus Christ to send missionaries amongst the heathens, the time is NOW for missionaries to be sent to convert the heathen Evangelical Supply-Side Jesus Doctrine to true Christianity as represented by God and Jesus Christ in the Holy Bible.

I agree with Stephan, I think this is a wonderful idea. The American power structure needs its own Holy Scripture, one not diluted with irrelevances or imbued with Wrong Thinking, like love your neighbor.
Religions have been sponsored and subsidized by power structures to foster obedience to Divine and earthly power, but the problem is, they are generic. They don’t refer to one specific power system, except possibly Cunfusism. This Bible will correct that deficiency, along with the video.
Also increased concision is a great idea. I’ve tried to read the bible, God knows I’ve tried, but I simply can’t get past all the leisrely absurdities and Holy atrocities in the Jewish Bible. the Cristain Bible is much better, you can whiz through it in a few hours. People like Christain who spend a whole lifetime purusing it are apparently slow readers.
But you are quite right, Martha, to take this threat seriously. When you stand before The White Thron of Judgement, the White House of Heaven, you don’t want the laws to be written by modern Cons, having spent your life living up to the ancient stictures of the ancient dingbats. It is the most arrogant thing that I have ever heard of that Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMISTS are entered into an organized project to rewrite the Holy Bible into an instrument of sophist propaganda for privatized Capitalism to control the masses of the population by way of fascist doctrine; God fearing Christians should rise up and soundly rebuke this effort by Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMISTS to blaspheme God’s Holy Bible in the self-serving name of privatized Capitalism.
Evangelical Christians are the only Christians that I know of that would accept such an abomination without protest, that would accept Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMISTS to rewrite the Holy Bible as the Word of God and MAKE the Holy Bible be a blasphemous instrument of sophism and propaganda in service to privatized Capitalism.
Evangelical Christians need to step back and ask themselves whether or not Jesus the Christ would approve Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMISTS rewriting God’s Holy Word to make God’s Holy Word into a fascist instrument of sophism and propaganda in service to privatized Capitalism.

New Rule: Conservatism is infallable.
Ergo… The word of God was mistranslated because God is a Conservative because (refer to New Rule)
Also… It is the “Duty” of all Conservatives to spread the Conservative dogma above all else. The use of any tool, including an edited Bible is ok because, for Conservatives, the end justifies the means.
Becoming wealthy is a sure manifestation of God’s favor in this world. The accumulation of wealth is Conservative and therefore “good” (see rule above).
The “liberal” Bible is subversive because it does not respect wealth and power.

Rewriting the Bible is Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMISM converting the Bible into an instrument of Right-Wing propaganda that will be a fountainhead of Right-Wing Conservative sophism and propaganda, and is an example of the EXTREMIST mindset and lengths that Conservatives will go to accuse, condemn, denounce and in the end try to kill liberals in the Name of God; if this is where the Conservative Movement is leading, the Liberals better arm up before Neo-Conservative Hitler starts rounding them up.
King James did not control the translation, but had the Bible translated verbatim — what the translator saw was what the translator wrote, but the Conservative Movement wants anything Liberal OUT, therefore their new Conservative Bible will have a Conservative bias minus any Liberal leanings, which is not God——the Conservative Movement is the EXTREME of EXTREMISTS.

OK, I’ve almost gotten used to the absurdity of them calling pro-health-insurance-company-profits Democrats ‘socialists’.
But, are they now really claiming that hereditary kings of Europe were ‘liberals’?
Try this quote from under ‘liberalism’ from Wikipedia.
“In the 17th Century, liberal ideas began to influence governments in Europe, in nations such as The Netherlands, Switzerland, England and Poland, but they were strongly opposed, often by armed might, by those who favored absolute monarchy and established religion.”
The King James Bible was commissioned in 1604 and then written over the next decade. Since the opponents of the liberals were those who favored ‘absolute monarchy’ and ‘established religion’, then its seems a pretty good guess that King James was an opponent of liberalism, if liberalism even existed at the time.
In general, it seems rather absurd to consider the King of England, and the sort of church elites that would have been appointed to such a commission in 1604 as ‘liberals’. That’s even more absurd than calling a millionaire Clinton a ‘socialist’.
Then, as today, the liberals were the ones hanging in chains in the king’s dungeon. They sure as heck weren’t the one sitting on the throne.
I stay sane by thinking that God thinks this is all just as ridiculous and funny as I do. In which case, these folk have some surprises and some explaining to do ahead of them.

The bible, whether New or Old Testament, is not the word of a god, but the words of many men. We find, especially in the New Testament which was written over a long period of time, centuries actually, that it reflected more the politics of the day than the actual words of Jesus or the prophets.
Even the parts written by contemporaries of Christ, and eyewitnesses, supposedly, to the crucifixion, differ wildly in their reportage. Read Mark and Luke and one finds one says Jesus died quietly and with dignity while the other claims he wept and screamed and apparently had a miserable time of it.
Regardless of your opinion of the existence of a god one must understand the fallibility of man, and it was men who wrote that book.

The line from MarthaA about it being conservatives choice to edit their bible if they want to has really struck me.
Religion is supposed to be about faith. Anyone who is a Christian says they have faith in god and that they’ve turned their lives over to God. In other words, its not about what they think, its supposed to be them opening their lives up to the message of love that Jesus preached. The general idea is that they should learn a bit to put aside their own wicked ways and accept what Jesus was trying to teach. That’s kind of the whole point of when they turn their lives over to Jesus and claim their salvation.
There’s something just plain wrong about people saying that the book they consider the Holy Word direct from God is wrong and that they need to rewrite it to suit their own beliefs.
Revelations warns of people deluded by false prophets. Pretty much by definition, anyone who rewrites the word of God is a false prophet. After all, if God had wanted the Bible to support their views of loving war, death, destruction, torture and leaving people to die without food or health care, well I think God could have said that himself the first time if that’s what he’d really meant to say.
Or, are they saying that their infallible God made a mistake?

I am sorry you read the Holy Bible that much and never got any understanding of life after death. Maybe you should read it again, but as God talking to YOU, instead of as history, because Jesus says he stands at YOUR door and knocks, but YOU must invite Jesus into your life. It isn’t crazy, all mortal bodies die, no one escapes the 1st death, but it isn’t the 1st Death you must concern yourself about, it is the 2nd death. Jesus died to protect you from the 2nd Death, and besides life after death, God is also an ever present help in this world. Jesus died for imperfect sinners like me and you——and everyone else.
King James did good not taking Liberal out of the Holy Bible, and it would be good for these Conservatives not to be changing the Holy Bible, but that is their choice, I just hope the original King James version is preserved.

Oh keep laughing folks….
For years, the X-tians (I rather like “christards”
)have been locking their soft-brained children into “Christ Camps” that teach them that now people like Bush and cronies need to be “worshiped” and their lives must be thrown away protecting a false projection of “M’erika!” They have “home schooled” their children so those children are fed nothing but homophobic, hateful, vile and evil bullshit. They do NOT teach their children or converts that the Old Testament actually comes from the Jewish Torah! I’ve asked. They do not know and they call me a “demon” for spouting such un-holy untruths.
Oh, by the way, they’re brainwashing their own people AND the chhhhillllddddrrren! into using that term “demon” as much as possible. The targets? Everyone that isn’t an Evangelical or a Pentacostal because they all believe the same things, their hatred is mighty of anyone outside their groups ....
aaaaaannnnddddd, they are preparing for the future elimination of the Constitution and anyone covered by it who are not firmly in their groups, spouting the same crap they do.
The Constitution protects all PEOPLE from all other people. Humans. A piece of paper guarantees each of us the designation of “people”. Again, human beings. From what the people who have left these abhorrent groups have told me, and what I’ve heard for myself by spending more that 100 Sundays in their pits of hatred, their theory is simple: Demand that all “Believers”, when faced with someone outside the clique say ANYTHING they can demand is “offensive”, throw out the word “demon”. And teach your children to do so as well (as my daughter was treated to for 4 years of high school in Colorado because she didn’t wear a cross and shout “Pah-raise Jeeezzzus” every 3 seconds and had no intention of hanging with what she deemed haters and bullies who happily in Christ beat the crap out of any kid who was gay, intellectual, or refused to defy Federal Law and form prayer groups to loudly shout their bahay-bull bullshit at the other students).
They have used Nazi propaganda and crowd control and brainwashing techniques for many, many years. I remember the same bullshit back in the 70’s, but we fought back. Now everyone wants to sit back and mock and laugh. At people who are using the tried-and-true method all countries use before starting a war: de-humanize “the enemy”. Funny how Americans rushed to call anyone in the “Middle East” a raghead, a camel jockey, a “shit-hander” and whatever they could think of. And the jokes! Now it’s “demon” for any American standing in the way of the Christian Soldiers.
The logic behind it? If you can get enough people around you to label someone as a “demon” - being an evil creature of hell YOU are supposed to stand against, IF you’re a warrior for God and Christ, and in fact, destroy because GA-HOD wants you to, when your people are in power, they can telecast to fellow believers that a) “demons” are not human and therefore, “demons” cannot be covered under the Constitution of the United States of America, and b) since WE can see them and they deny it, it’s perfectly fine to destroy them. Destroy? Fire them. Take their housing away from them. Revoke laws that protect them. And when WE remove them from OUR society, we destroy the Constitution and treat them AS demons!
Keep laughing and making snide remarks. I live in Pentacostal and Evangelical HQ and hear this very shit EVERY day from kids, adults, teachers, business owners, politicians, Air Force Academy people, military people who truly BELIEVE they are charged by GA-HOD to “kill all demons and make the world Christian-only so He can come back.”
Wait until you’re surrounded by them and have no recourse on anything….. and then remember you called me paranoid and crazy…..
Fuck I have to get out of this country fast!

The new version of the miracle of the loaves and fishes.
“Jesus was gathered with his followers on the hill, and many thousands had gathered to here him speak his words of wisdom.
But there was not food enough for so many people, and many were going hungry.
So, Jesus prayed to God his father and asked for food for those who had come to listen to him, and God did reach down and multiply the few fishes and loaves that were available until they were enough to feed the multitude.
Then, Jesus, being a good capitalist, realized that this mass of hungry people was a excellent opportunity to turn a profit. So, he quickly grabbed some boards and setup and stand. And from this stand he was selling fish sandwiches to his hungry followers for $15.
But, then when the lines were long and his working volunteers (why pay for help when you’ve got disciples) were busy, Jesus decided that he could make even more money from this crowd of hungry people, so he raised the price of the fish sandwiches to $25 each.”
Thus Jesus taught the important sermon on capitalism, and taught all of his followers to view the hungry as just an unfilled market opportunity. Later he would also teach his followers how to earn maximum profits from the sick and injured by charging for health care.

Conservatism rewriting Liberal out of the Holy Bible has nothing whatsoever to do with Christianity, as far as the Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMIST Republicans are concerned Christendom is nothing more than a tool for them to use and since Jesus was a Liberal in the bible, God’s Word is getting in Conservatism’s way, and Conservatism has to get Liberal completely out of the world, so based on the Powell Memo, nothing is above reproach. First abour 6,000 years ago (according to Bishop Usher) people told stories to each other in anattempt to explain to each other who we are, where we come from, where are we going etc. Because writing had not been invented these stories were repeated in what has been called the oral tradition. They were told around campfires, passed on from adult to child for thousands of years. Virtually every story was edited thousands of times and the edited versions passed on as though they were true. As writing became invented stroies were written down by inscribing stone tablets and later by ink on papyrus which is an extremely vulnerqble writing method. Only a few people coud read or write therefore the stories were noy widely read but were intepreted by interested parties of the times.
the stories were translated from languages not even spoken today. As the translations were accomplished words which were common in the first language were not available in the second language therefore words had to be invented. In spite of the reality of the process there are still moral lessons to be learned. However when the words are interpreted by partisans for propaganda I believe that we all can question the attempt to lead us into something that wasn’t true from the beginning. After Martin Luther humans realized that they could interpret the scriptures for themselves thereby ushering in a realistic era of religion. The propagandists are trying to abolish this freedom which was hard earned.alone34

I’m amazed to see the phrase “open minded” associated with the Christers. To be a Christer is to close your mind to all things real, to believe in a Peter Pan existence, to subscribe to a mythology that is so patently witless on its face as to be ridiculous. And yet people line up to worship this fairy-tale god.
Any time I see Christers trying to associate their religion with reality it nearly brings about a hearty laugh. If it wasn’t the source of all that sacred greed, intolerance, hatred and bigotry, I’d probably laugh until my sides hurt. If religious ignorance didn’t hold back the human race from achieving scientific, medical, and social progress, it would be hilarious.
In Europe’s dark ages, it was said by the Holy Roman Church that if a book repeated what was in the bible, it was redundant and thereby unnecessary. If the book contained something other than what’s written in the bible, it was untrue. Mankind has been held back long enough by this ritualized holy crap. Shake off the shackles of self-imposed ignorance and step into the real world. When you open a bible, you close your mind. A closed mind gathers…...nothing.

And in the national debates that determine our cultural reality, we will have to engage with them based on their interpretation. Reminding them that their interpretation was not the original language will not matter. As someone noted, there are dozens of translations already….

I understand there is over 100 versions, so this would only be one more version, the conservative corporate fascist evangelical version, but the problem is the corporate fascist police state, will the corporate fascist evangelical bible become a part of the corporate fascist-socialist police state and all the other bibles be sidelined?

The term for this is Bowdlerize, for a good Dr. who thought Shakespeare was too smutty and created a “family version” that was so bad it went into the history books and the language.
This brings me to a question that I like to ask and receive no answer for, “if people say they are Christian, but ignore the teaching of Christ and take the contradictory and punitive stories of the Old Testement as literal truth—why do they call themselves Christians at all?” Now it appears that the greedy, arrogant, and thuggish wish to expergate all of what Jesus taught so they can preserve their habit of conniving, stealing, mis-leading and having no regard for the rights of others. I am sure they have nobile intentions—not!

It is ironic that if they are re-writing the King James bible, then they are re-writing a rewrite already. How many versions of the bible will that make it?
Report thisMaybe some of you bible scholars will let us know. I would guess that would be about 10 versions.

“Define “facts”. Define “ideas”.
Conservatives don’t have ideas. They have principles. By definition, conservatives want to keep things the way they are, or go back to the way things were. Ideas come from the ability to be able to think for oneself. Conservatism scoffs at that (everything in neat little rows).”
~~~
I would only add, so-called Conservative so-called Christians don’t have ideas. They have a need to be led around by the nose. Period.
Which of course eliminates all need for something like facts. Like the fact that they can’t go back to the way things were, because they have absolutely no clue how things were, ever!
They cant even remember clear back to GW!
ardee,
“This certainly highlights the absurdity in play surrounding religious beliefs carried to extreme conclusions.”
And underlines the need to question the bible in the first place. After all, isn’t that collection of books we call the Word of God actually a collection of books written by men after they scrubbed what they didn’t like from the ancient scrolls and records kept by other men?
As usual, the self centered men who are busily re-writing the word of god are actually re-creating god in their own concieted image, which is as it has always been, and probably always will be. Nothing original here. But then right-wing wing-nuts are not famous for being able to have an original thought.
Oh my. You all have provided me with my necessary morning dose of chuckle.
Report thisImagine conservatives actual creating the equivalent of a “liberal” (instead of “literal”) interpretation of the Bible !! Maybe they will do the same for the US Constitution!!
Actually, it might be an excellent exercise for them - downright revolutionary. They might finally learn that written words come from thoughts, not the other way around.
But if their track record bears out, their efforts will arrive at something like highly redacted Cliff Notes.
As long as they leave the part about the apple and the ark alone, I’m okay with it. It’s a shame though, sort of like re-writing the classic children’s story, Good Night Moon; a good story should be left as is. You can’t beat a good story.
Free Market ideas isn’t a give away as to who/WHAT is ‘inspiring’ this Revision?
Report thisLet me Guess in this new version,Christ Hails the Moneychangers as the Givers of Life (liberty and the pursuit of happiness, as well?). Will there be a Sermon thanking the moneychangers for the Bread,fish and wine? Will Christ be asking the Lepers for Immigration papers and proof of health insurance too? Refusing ‘wayward’ woman their only means of shelter?
Will Christ now expound a doctrine of ‘Blessed’ as a matter of pre destiny (judgement), and not acheived through faith,deed or word? If you are poor and helpless, you are being punished in this life as well? Sounds like Buddhism to me.
But add a capitalist spin- and Viola, you have moral justification for your Greed and Apathy.God Blessed you, and Damned others- so who are you to interfer?
Their Wealth and power becomes a Testiment to their pre anointed ‘blessedness’- Sounds like the concept which created Pharohs and Monarchs.
Facinating how these so called ‘Christians’ are obsessed with the minute details of Scripture, but are totally oblivious to the over all concepts. Why do these people fret over every syllable or phrase of ‘the Word of God’ and ignore the other Creations of God? Pull your noses from that Dusty old Text and go see The Grand Canyon, Look through a Telescope or microscope, read a National Geographic.
From conservapedia homepage:
...and true to the facts, which often back up conservative ideas more than liberal ones.
Define “facts”. Define “ideas”.
Conservatives don’t have ideas. They have principles. By definition, conservatives want to keep things the way they are, or go back to the way things were. Ideas come from the ability to be able to think for oneself. Conservatism scoffs at that (everything in neat little rows).
Conservatives have been upset with Wikipedia for a long time. The most interesting pages on Wiki are the “edit” pages. Constant arguments between conservatives trying to force their beliefs, and administrators just asking for factual background and simple citations. I was doing some research on the relationship between Mute Swans and Canada Geese. This person kept saying that “Canadian Geese” is an acceptable term. The Wiki administrator said fine, show me one example of where the term is used. The person did/could not. He just kept rambling about how he, and people he knows… blah, blah, blah…his arguments were purely anecdotal. But that’s the conservative definition of fact. If you say something enough times, it becomes fact.
I was just reading through some of the pages on Conservapedia. It seems there are a lot of “attacks” on “liberal” facts. In fact, there seems to be a very high word count for “liberal”. Any conventional wisdom or fact that doesn’t fit in with conservative ideals is attacked and labeled liberal. Once something is labeled liberal, it is very easy to formulate an “argument” against it. At least, it is for conservatives.
What it all comes down to is Science vs. Religion. Science is not perfect. The Bible is perfect. Well, it should be. According to Conservapedia, it will be.
I do not see rewriting the Holy Bible as religious belief, but no religion at all—an act AGAINST God—— evil people have been trying to change, burn and destroy the Holy Bible from the face of the earth for centuries, but we still have the Holy Bible. God is able to protect that which is His.
No matter what the Right-Wing Conservative EXTREMIST Republicans do to rewrite the Holy Bible to make their conservatism appear good, those who the liberal God calls, will know that liberally God came down from Heaven in the form of Jesus and gave his life for mankind, even if the real Jesus is written out altogether into their Conservative Gospel of a Supply-side Jesus, God is still in charge.
The Conservative Movement redoing the Bible will have grave consequences for those who are doing the revision, as the Holy Bible is protected by God and it states in Revelation 22:18-19 “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”
I am aware that the Conservative Movement is evil, but I had no idea they were evil to the extent of rewriting liberal out of the Holy Bible——but revision of God’s Word into a Neo-Con Bible will not change God’s Word, only make a NEW Neo-Con Bible with a Supply-Side Jesus to tickle conservative ears.
In the 1700’s the search for perfection led the people of the times to write happy endings to Shakespeare’s tragedies, so Hamlet and Ophelia would live happily ever after.
Of course, this is absurd. These people intend to write their own bible, and then pretend it’s the same as the ancient texts—how many people read Jesus-era Aramaic? (besides Talmudic scholars?)
Editing the bible to serve craven political ends is nothing new. Of course
Report thisRepublicans would want to rearrange the King James version and change the
compassionate and life-affirming Christ of the current editions to a savagely
American conservatives need a Messiah that affirms their depraved values and
I think this is a great idea. The more they can circle their wagons into a tight-knit cultist echo-chamber of hate, excluding as many less-than-pure wack-jobs from their ranks as possible, the better.
Very few normal churches will adopt their “bible”, and their ranks will shrink dramatically. Their impact on the rest of us will become negligible.
I wonder - but not enough to search for the answer - how they justify making any changes at all (aside from wanting to of course). They’ve defended the *literal* word of the King James bible (no other version would do) for decades - and now they want to actually write (ok, “dramatically edit”) their own version?
